Er, I mean, seriously and unexpectedly... I just finished a pug during which I just obtained the highest score I have ever achieved and finished second for the first time in Gold. I was using HFS armed with the Revvay!!!with stability mod V, scope V, and incedniary ammo III. I spammed grenades everywhere, of course, and mashed the crap out of Adrenaline Rush, but I do think the revvay helped me be competitive for the top score for the first time in ME3MP. Perhaps if I had used Disruptor or Phasic ammo. Or maybe I just got lucky. These were not BSNers I was playing with (to my knowledge). Whatever the reason, it's a step in the right direction.
 

 
So if you all couldn't tell in this thread, I was exaggerating just slightly and don't really think the Revvay is as good as.......

In other words, you don't actually know whether people trashing the Revenant do so because they suck with it. For all you know, most of them are great with it (and trash-talk it for completely different reasons). Gotcha.

 

And there was no real reason why the Revenant had to be an average to below-average assault rifle, the devs could easily have given it better stats, so clearly there's no reason the Revenant couldn't have been expected to at least approximate the ME2 version (say, if it had the damage output of one of the top-end ARs)- it just failed to. Besides, there's only a few guns in the game that cannot "pull their own weight" given the proper mods and equipment, so this merely serves to distinguish the Revenant from the very worst guns in the game- it obviously doesn't follow that it is any good, or even that it isn't bad. Its just not the worst. That's damning with faint praise, I'd say. 

In other words you're butthurt because I dared to imply that you're not very good with one specific weapon and that you're lost in the past and can't get over the fact that the Revenant won't do all the fighting for you anymore. Gotcha. Thanks for making that clear. I didn't even imply that you're a bad player, just that you're bad with the Revenant. Thanks for letting us all see how insecure you are. Maybe you should stick to the Reegar so you don't have to aim.

That exact reason also happens to be 100% untrue. It's accuracy issues are real, but also greatly exaggerated.

Again, there really aren't any guns in this game that cannot work (exhibit A: all the plat solos with guns like the Shuriken, Predator, Vindicator, etc.), so this isn't saying anything. It doesn't follow from the fact that you can in fact kill things with it that it is not bad. Its still pretty bad. And yeah, its probably in roughly the same class with the Scimitar, which tells you just about everything you need to know.

The tipping point that devastated your argument was suggesting that people who dislike the revenant simply aren't good with it. Skilled players can make any weapon perform while still acknowledging that it's not very good. My feeling is that an [semi]automatic weapon can work despite high recoil or low accuracy, but not both. That combination makes it a natural enemy of headshots on console.

Any gun you have to cover lock to counter spread for headshots for more than halfway across the map that is a non-gimmick assault rifle is at best mediocre.

It's worth noting that the Fagnan himself considered the Rev a "silver weapon" at best.

What's not subjective are stats, and the gun's stats are precisely middle of the road. Too heavy for a spam caster, not enough damage for a platinum beat down.

The Mattock (lol) does better aggregate dps and the Claymore does equal damage in one shot as an entire clip, provided you're under spread cone/kick range to make every shot hit or you've modded the round to be only Atlases.

Mediocre gun is mediocre.

The Scimitar is one of the truly underrated guns here. Not that it's better than most shotguns, but really not bad at all.

Yeah the whole, "if you think X sucks you need to L2P" doesn't really work when you're talking about the Revenant. And for me the biggest problem isn't exactly the accuracy but the damage- its a machine gun ferchrissake, it shouldn't be accurate or low-recoil, but it should do quite a bit more damage. It should leave holes in enemies the size of small dinner plates.

The Scimitar starts having damage problems as early as silver. I've been sleeping my way through gold with the Revenant for three years. It's seriously as simple as burst of fire, concussive shot, burst of fire, concussive shot, etc. etc...The scimitar may as well be firing spitwads in comparison, and the Revenant doesn't even do any special amount of damage. And yes, I use both on a regular basis. Like you, I didn't want to just give up on my old favorites.

Those are the same things one puts on many other shotguns, and the gear slots are left free for other stuff. And the Scimitar is so lightweight it can go on any kit.

 

Also, no need to adopt a condescending tone. I play both the Scimitar and the Revenant on Gold and enjoy them both.
