The title may be a bit misleading simply because I wasn't sure how to word it, anyway:
So I purchased ME2 on DVD today and just got home, popped it in to find out my DVD drive is not working, I'd probably have known sooner if I wasn't so damn used to digital distribution. (Damn you Steam!)
Anywho, since I can't return this to ebgames, they're stupid like that, I was wondering if there is any way I can download the game from EA or anything using my CD Key?

Also, right now I'm ripping the DVD's to my girlfriends laptop so I can try installing from those, but do I need the disc inserted to play? If so...is there any way to not...need it inserted...besides the C word...?

Any help is mad appreciated!

I assume it will do a disc check. So i doubt ripping them would work. Some games come with steam support even in the physical copy, i.e. empire total war. So you could choose to DL from steam or use your physical copy to install from.

I just bought ME2 from steam so i am not aware of any functionality like that.

Whats the big deal with just getting a new DVD Rom? you could probably just get a cheap temporary one for under 20 bucks.

OK, you should be able to install just fine using the data you are ripping off of the discs on your girlfriend's laptop. Not sure if the discs are required to play or if it uses an online validation. I have heard that ME2 does require the disc to be in the drive, but only form other people on forums, not any confirmation from BioWare that I have seen yet. If I remember correctly ME did not require the disc to be inserted because the game was validated online when you first activate it.

If I were you I would just invest $40 in a new DVD burner. Shouldn't even need to spend that much tbh, but $40 will get you everything except BluRay and maybe LightScribe

There isn't really a big deal with it besides it being 9 in the evening and my usual gamer itch screaming for me to get it working now. :-/
I'll try the steam business though I always assumed that only worked with Valve products.
Cheers for the assist though.

EDIT: Steam idea didn't work, will be picking up a new drive tomorrow anyway.
Though regardless I do hope it doesn't disc check or that I can get a digital dist. version with my CD key, I really dislike needing to find my discs...Anywho, I've fired off a quick email to EA to see if I have any options for dig. downloads, will post if there is any, just in case someone in the world cares. :-)
Thanks for the help fellas.
