Is playing with Take It Slow active by itself (without other Trials) viable or will it cripple me for the late game content and JoH/Descent/Tresspasser?

Cripple how?

I did it before, it doesn't take anything from you. You can skip recruiting the other companions and only recruit them as soon as you get to Skyhold (Blackwall, Iron Bull, Sera, Vivienne).
I didn't notice any particular difference in their dialogues, maybe just when talking about Haven once.

Edit: actually nevermind, I think I misread your question - thought you were going for the achievement.

Then no, I do not think it should ruin anything - maybe it might be a bit hard in some areas, but you should be fine overall.

Why though? :P

My last (and first, actually) playthrough felt too easy towards the end, as I ended up with lvl 27, I think and just roflstomped through everything. That was on normal difficulty, I am going to up it to hard this time (played a bit of nightmare and found it just horribly tedious). I could increase the difficulty with Take It Slow trial but from what I read some of the upgrades are too cheesy for me - i like a challenge but I do not like the AI to "cheat".

I do not want to use Even Ground but that is just personal preference. Do you think it would solve my issue (overleveling) better than only Take It Slow? It increases combat XP which will lead to more levels and I worry that I might be too powerful for the scaling to even matter.

I played my last game on Hard, with both Take It Slow and Even Ground on for the entire game. I finished, after playing all DLC, at level 27 but did not reach the max like I had before. Followers finished at level 26. I'd say it's definitely worth it to use both. No matter where I went, or when, I was never overleveled, which meant I still got experience for killing stuff, and nothing was ridiculously easy. If you use only Take It Slow, then I think you will still find overleveling to be an issue late in the game (except for quests like Descent where the enemies scale up to your level).

Thanks. I will play with Even Ground and Take IT Slow (and Rest Easy). I tried Walk Softly, but I found it too annoying.
