Hi!

This is my first thread here and title says it all: are there any (fresh - not a must - I haven't read so much) and mindblowing fanfictions of Mass Effect?

I loved sinvraal's Mass Effect for example but it can really be anything about the series. Only quality of the writing matters.

I would love to entertain myself while there is so long break before ME:A comes out.

Aaaaand if this question is frequently asked just show me where the older threads are. Thanks! : )

I'm sure if you dig a little through the "Fan Creation" forum under "The Mass Effect Franchise" section you will find what you need.  I don't read much fanfic myself, but I would assume that would be the place to either find it or ask for it.  Also, when in doubt, TV Tropes always has a "Fanfic Recs" section.

Go to FanFiction.net and sift through the 17.5k Mass Effect stories there.

If you're into crime and turians, I'd really recommend https://www.fanficti...ect-Interceptor.

Also Padzi's Citadel Wards comic series will always have a special place in my heart, http://padzi.deviant...ing-1-185496412.

The problem with fanfiction is that you have to sift through hundreds of Self Inserts and Humanity Stomping everything. But there are good ones there.

Do you like Xcom also? If so, I recommend this crossover: https://m.fanfiction...29/1/Psi-EffectThis is a fic where humanity is viewed as the "aliens" from Xcom. There's 3 generations of the Shepard family, and awesomely written fight sequences, even one between Shepard and Wrex. I recommend this even for thoso who don't know Xcom.

Must add that I have read all the Marauder Shield's by Koobismo. They are the best, it is a shame that it is been silent for a long time.

I found For Tomorrow We Die a very thrilling piece of work. It also has a few shorter companion piece written to it.

And there's my all time favorite, Mass Effect: Human Revolution. It has about everything: action, romance, drama, humor, tragedy, characters, world-building - and manages to keep everything coherent.

It's a cool story I suppose (literally, he really really likes to use the Rule of Cool), I had fun reading it for a while.

That said, coherent it is not. I remember half the time reading it I was either confused, facepalming due to excessive use of Rule of Cool,

or feeling a distinct feeling of WTF because in a somewhat Kojima style - the writer didn't seem able to decide if he was writing Sci-Fi, fantasy, or cyber-punk.

Why not all three? I mean,  got the distinct impression that the shifting between the genres was intentional and pre-planned - that's what I meant by coherency.

Different types of stories require suspension of disbelief for different things.

When you create certain rules and understanding in your story, a kind of in-world realism is formed.

Changing the rules every new arc in the story is jarring, and is very hard on suspension of disbelief.

Add to that, the story is a kind of multi-crossover, I'm still not clear with how many other types of media, it rarely bothers with an introduction to the new

concepts it throws at you, and is using an anime / comic logic many times (which is to say, things work the way they are because they "look" cool).

For me it was all simply overwhelming and trying too hard.

(it didn't help that he really likes to write entire conversations in French despite the fact that the story is listed as written in English)

If not FanFiction, you can check out Archive of our Own too. There's a lot of Mass Effect fanfiction there as well and I've read some good ones.

Yeah, finding anything good there is a nightmare.

Especially considering that on average only around 1% or 2% of the stories there are actually any good.

I'll leave a link here to a friend's story he's still working on. He's a professional writer. Best fanfiction you will ever read. I'm not exaggerating.

FemShep / Liara romance / destroy ending

https://www.fanficti...1/Reaper-Dreams

The story deals with the aftermath of the reaper war, political situation, new alien threat. Personal issues. Pretty much every major NPC is there. They all talk like in the actual games. This should have been ME4. He said the story would lead up to Andromeda. Chapters are a bit slow at the moment but still coming. 21 chapters so far!

Please check it out.

Looks interesting, seems like Shepard is not the protagonist which gave me a pause, but I will give it a try.
