Got new computer parts and i never got a chance to beat the inqusition due to school and stuff... Managed to pick up all the DLC an starting all over again... Any recommends on what would be the most fun? I like being a powerhouse and I remember my champion pretty much being able to handle anything due to immune to damage and all that other stuff. But with my new play through Rift Mage might be more fun and fit the story a bit more. What do you all recommend? I play on Nightmare and Im trying for alll trials on (as much as possible). Can Rift Mage melt health like it used to or should I just go with Tank + Damage champion?
Rift Mage or Champion?

both are very good classes. actually any class and spec can be made to dominate the game but those two are very solid. rift mage is a bit more vulnerable though than a champion if you are soloing, with a party it is no problem you should dominate. comes down to if you want to play up close to enemies or nuke them from range.
champion now has that ridiculous combat roll upgrade which breaks the game even more. rift mage has enough spells eventually to disable all enemies continuously while a blizzard kills them and or freezes them in place. pro tip: use a enhanced winter pact belt and blizzard+ winters grasp on the rift mage. stack blizzard, static cage, and add immolate on top.

I personally felt like rift mage was the least fun of all the mage specs but that's just me. I really liked force mage in DA2 but rift mage felt like a watered down version of it. But that's the thing. Lots of people love rift mage and will tell you to go for it. So I'm going to do the same. Try it out. You may like it. You may not.

Personally rift mage is my favourite class but then I've always preffered to play characters that controls and attacks from a distance and Rift mage suits this best.
I think it just depensd on your character style and what you want to try to achieve in the playthrough. After aqll I'll be playing my first warrior in my next run was planning on the Templar spec for it.

According to the OP, he has never beaten the game, which means he won't have access to the Golden Nug, one of the most gamebreaking things in this game, particularly early on. That is something to take into consideration.
In terms of pure fun, I would go Rogue, no-brainer. Between a Rift Mage and a Champion, I am more inclined towards the Rift Mage because I prefer ranged over melee when playing on a keyboard and mouse, also I feel that Mages are overall more balanced than Warriors, particularly at early levels. You will be immortal once you have the specialization and the good stuff, but until you get there, having the Trials on and no Golden Nug, it might not be very fun.

Rift Mage >>>> Champion. I found the champion at best boring, and at worst a complete total crap storm that had me wanting to throw my controller at the TV. With the Trespasser DLC, you would be better off with Templar or Reaver IMHO.
I think you'll really enjoy Rift Mage though.

Templar Or Reaver? Last time I played Templar was mostly for support and Reavers tend to not be good on Nightmare due to needing low health to do damage. That's very interesting. I generally like to do 1 male and 1 female play through but honestly not sure if I will have time to complete them yet. I've been waiting to graduate so I can dedicate time to play Fallout 4... So 2 play through likely won't be happening. Looks like Rift Mage may be the best iconic thing to go for. What is situation about the Golden Nug? Does it offer a lot of interesting game play? I technically have one character that is already a champion and very close to getting the main story finished... I suppose I could finish that one and start my male rift mage if it's that worth it. I did I intend of starting from scratch with the new graphics and ect though.
Thanks for all the advice btw guys.

I just go with Templar since it's the easiest for me to collect all of the items.

I love my 2H champion. it is my most enjoyable playthrough. I guess everyone has their opinion about "fun", for me, optimizing a build, holding a whole battle line while dealing decent damage and take out each enemy one by one in the top difficulty, is very fun. But if you like range attack, infinite mana, throwing a bunch of spells on enemies...etc, then you must try Rift Mage.
As for Golden Nug, it offers you almost all the schematics and recipes you collected in your previous playthroughs, if you are going to play with all trials on it will help a lot, also it saves your time from doing those collecting which sometimes is just boring and wasting time.

Pull of the Abyss (with Devouring Veil upgrade) + Static Cage (with Tethering Cage Upgrade) + Immolate (with Wildfire upgrade) = Massive body count.

I guess my opinion is tainted by the trials I enable. I turn on trials that make enemies more powerful and level up with me. The spell purge on a Templar is incredible useful against epic barriers. Plus I absolutely love it when fighting dragons to get rid of those nasty lightning circles. The stun is also incredible useful. My 2H Champ spent 90% of his time dead in WoH expansion, and that's when I thru in the towel. They can't survive the Hakkon debuff stacking. On the other hand the 2H Templar has an extra stun and dispel. So incredibly useful when trials turned on and nigthmare mode enabled. If you play without trials, or on easier difficulty, 2H Champ may be ok.
Reavers kill things so damn fast, they make up for their health deficits. But if you lack the ability to pay attention to your life, don't try it. Reavers became a lot better recently because their self-heal can now heal you up almost completely.

Interesting. I soloed the whole JoH with my 2H champion with all trails on in Nightmare. Didn't have much troubles. Instead, I had a very hard time using a 2H templar to do it. And in Decent I also can't use templar to solo through the fire hall long fight or the fight before you break 5 barriers. But I can use my 2h champion to easily make it. Maybe templar works better with a complete team...I guess.

Agree, with one exception. There are some schematics, particularly weapon and armor upgrades, that are worth having mid-game on, that are not available from the BE, and normally take hours to farm from Tier 3 chests. The Golden Nug can be a variance normalizer and time saver in those cases.I wouldn't worry about golden nug as it breaks the game early on. Black emporium and it's tier 2 schematics get you through to skyhold and a bit of mid game well enough even with trials until you can afford legendary schematics from be and t3 armour from the hissing wastes merchant.
If you have the self-discipline not to take/use those upgrades the first time you get to the smithy in Haven, it's handy to get/use them through the Golden Nug at the appropriate time.

Hmm, I see how that works (Static Cage should be cast first, though), but is it really better than Pull of the Abyss/Shaken Veil over a Fire Mine/Searing Glyph with Chaotic Focus and Pyromancer and a full barrier? The Static Cage seems superfluous on top of that pair of abilities, not to mention the extra mana it takes to cast. Unless you mean two mages working together to set it up?Pull of the Abyss (with Devouring Veil upgrade) + Static Cage (with Tethering Cage Upgrade) + Immolate (with Wildfire upgrade) = Massive body count.

Wow that's nice to hear. I'm not much of a solo guy, not due to difficulty but I enjoy the party banter and ect. I didn't realize that Templars got such a significant buff to be more...or rather less of a support role. I think at the end of the day I will still try out the Rift Mage... Finish up the last quest at least with my Champion so I can use Golden Nug. Then use the Rift Mage to complete all the DLC and side quests. ... Out of Curiosity is it viable for Rift Mage to Solo?

A bit of both. Also, Adaar has that Amulet that give faster Mana Recharge.

Crafting eventually breaks anyway ![]()
By the 'standard' crafting procedure of visiting the Black Emporium and Hissing Wastes Merchant after reaching Skyhold and farming T3 material, people will be walking around in level 20-23 gear at level 12 or so.
Getting to Skyhold at level 5 or lower, no healing potions, no supply caches, fighting promoted enemies on Nightmare and without high-end schematics... That sounds like a real challenge to me. I personally haven't done that, yet.

Yes -- but that's not saying much, since any spec can solo NM. Once you've filled out the Rift Mage ability tree and geared up, you'll pretty much own the battlefield.Out of Curiosity is it viable for Rift Mage to Solo?
Personally, I'd keep a full party until Skyhold. You can solo CotJ/iHW and the Haven raid as a mage, but it's tedious, and since it is a solved problem (see video series below, although they are on Hard, not NM), it doesn't seem worth the time.

I love the party banter too much to solo.
I love the party banter, but I hate their ridiculously bad AI. I take companions with me just to listen to them chat, but ignore them in combat. I don't even bother trying to keep them alive anymore. I set them to not use any potions at all, do my own thing, and don't even glance at their health bars. They all die from their own stupidity and I finish the encounter myself.
I really miss the ability to script companion AI myself in DAO and DA2.
