What if the Reapers tried to go to Andromeda...and were defeated?

At this point we don't know much about ME:A except small details but I have heard a lot of people saying that the Ark should have gone to the Magellanic Cloud instead of Andromeda because it is closer. But maybe there is an actual solid explanation that will be made.

This is my personal theory: A data archive left by some ancient alien race from thousands of years ago is discovered (some 15 cycles before our Reaper cycle). It documents how the Reapers sent groups to other galaxies to see the evolution of the life forms there. It lets us know that there is Reaper presence in the Magellanic Cloud and other closer galaxies. The data archive also mentions that the group of Reapers that travelled to Andromeda discovered superior alens (the Remnant maybe?). These superior aliens defeated the Reapers in Andromeda, few Reapers survived to tell the tale.

I personally am hoping there is an advanced alien race that is more powerful than the Reapers. I think it would be interesting that when Milky Way races made first contact with them in Andromeda they would say something along the lines of "ohh, the Reapers? There are stories of when a long time ago, Reapers had come and tried to attack us. But we destroyed them in their first attack, those who survived left from where they came. You couldn't defeat them? You are a very inferior species indeed. You can try to establish colonies in the Helios Cluster; it is mostly uninhabitted except for some animal life and other inferior species. When you have become sufficiently advanced you may join us as equals, otherwise we cannot help you."

Replace "theory" with "suggestion" and you're good.

Power creep is exactly the opposite of what this franchise needs, to be honest. The Reapers were already obscenely powerful to the point of requiring a Deus Ex Machina to defeat.

Still, it´ll be quite funny if we´ll arrive to Andromeda and find that there is no pattern of inevitable and eternal conflict betwen the organics and synthetics...

It'll be hilarious when we arrive and the inherent conflict between the creators and the created is rearing its ugly head.

Knowing BioWare, we'll just get to destroy whoever's creations anyway. Go team organic.

They probably wont retcon their own backlore. Most likely, they will try to explain either the lack of conflict or the presence of conflict (and why that conflict wasn't won by synthetics a billion years ago) in some way.

I just hope that explanation isn't utterly stupid, and I hope they dont spend a significant portion of the plot on organic - synthetic conflict again.

You missed the perfect opportunity to include in "Ah yes, Reapers..."

If the Reapers were active in Andromeda, Shepard might be the cause of their defeat. It would give the writers a means to address the endings of Mass Effect 3 without delving too deeply into the varying consequences of the ending choices.

The Reapers are annihilating the Andromeda civilization simultaneously as the Milky Way Reaper War, when the Andromeda Reapers either retreat on command from the Catalyst (Synthesis) or the A.I. that thinks it is Shepard (Control), leaving behind the battered remains of the civilization the leak refers to as the Remnant. With Destroy maybe the Andromeda Reapers simply stop functioning properly, since all Reapers are combined into a kind of gestalt intelligence, and a large percentage of them have just been annihilated, along with the A.I. 'master.' Fast forward a few centuries and the Milky Way colonists arrive, before the Remnant have managed to pull themselves out of their post-apocalyptic dark age.

Maybe the Khet were a pre-spaceflight species like the Raloi or the Yahg, who left alone by the Reapers, master space flight and fill the vacuum left by the collapse of the Remnant civilization during the centuries the Milky Way colonists are in transit.

Or not.

/speculation

Please, no more reapers. I don't want them to be mentioned or showed in any form as we enter the new galaxy. Just... No. Please.

They'll almost certainly be mentioned, even if they never visited Andromeda. The Reaper War is likely going to be the cause for the Milky Way colonists setting out for Andromeda.

If you doubt me remember to come back and like this post where I totally "call it" when your main protagonist goes, "My God/Goddess! They're machines!" in ME:A.

This. And honestly, what would the chances of finding something more powerful be anyway? The Reapers are/were a post-singularity machine race that had been developing for at least a billion years. Unless the Remnant are something similar that's been around longer, it seems unlikely they would have won.

Correct me if i'm wrong but reapers are not invulnerable, Soveriegn was killed with the expense of a large chunk of the alliance military, The races of the milky way galaxy were drastically unprepared for the return of the reapers, If they listened to shepard and produce more dreadnoughts and stuff they could have been prepared to fight, defend, and kill a few reapers conventionally, I'm not sure whether the inhabitants of the Andromeda galaxy are primitive or just as advanced as the races in the milky way galaxy. Perhaps they will be more advanced? Who knows? In my opinion i rather not be the species in the andromeda galaxy be more powerful than reapers. I like the idea of uplifting species and interacting with them.

We've yet to encounter a true Type 3 Civilization.

From a storytelling perspective that is probably a good thing, as they'd be ridiculously overpowered. Any civilization capable of harnessing the energy output of an entire galaxy, potentially even black holes and quasars, would be so far in advance of the Milky Way civilization technologically that humans wouldn't stand a chance if they were hostile.

They would just absorb us into matter to power their synthetic bodies
