My next DAI playthrough, I'd like to play an female elf warrior for various reasons except it seems so dumb that a female elf would even be able to pick up the weapons she'd need. I too like to hear how it could even be possible so it doesn't bug me the entire game, to see my little tiny elf packing such heavy weapons (and actually using them). 

Yeah I plan to do that as well. I've kind of got the kind of look I want in mind for her as well although I haven't created her yet. But that's moer down to the fact I'm playing through the other DA's again atm and deciding a history for her to work from first. I'm planning her to be a sword and shield templar warrior. I've not played a warrior befoer on DAi except through the prologue for a bit of practice so will be interesting. I'm kind of looking forward to it to be honest as well.

Well, if elves are too spindly to wield two-handed weapons, I guess that counts for most female Inquisitors as well.

Is that the road we want to go down? You want to be denied certain classes because you're playing an elf or human woman?

Let's take it a step further: should we keep dwarves from being dagger rogues because their bodies are too stocky and their legs are too stumpy to jump around? Maybe deny them certain archer abilities like Leaping Shot? I mean, c'mon, do you really think Varric could do back flips in real life?

Maybe qunari are too big and muscular to be dagger rogues as well. Some other people have made that observation.

Daggers have nothing to do with size. Unless you meant the Stealth... which is a bit funny, I agree.

 

I don't mind some of these weapon configs though. I just want stats back and more skillsets. And I don't want to hear about elves having magic muscle fibers or something. I'd rather us just handwave it and be stupid, rather than making silly biological excuses. As for 2handed, they could make the weapons more realistic.. but maybe I'm asking too much. I mean, the whole powerset is silly. Like Tremor/Earthquake powers Or chain pulling. I could go on really. Almost the whole game was designed in a careless manner. I'm going to lower expectations as much as I can. It's a wonder I took the setting seriously once.

You guys are overthinking this, Elves used Elven variations on most arms and weapons, in DAO we get word of this just talking to the Elven weaponsmith in the Dalish Camp, Ironbark is a staple in most all Dalish Weapons and Armor, light as tree bark but as strong or stronger than steel. This means weapons and armors wouldn't be as big as human or dwarven or qunari sized versions, also Elves were supposed incredible when it came to designing their best weapons and armor with the materials they used its not at all hard to believe they surpassed even the Dwarves at weapon crafting. Look at the Armor the Elves at Mythal's temple wore, form fitting but obviously battle oriented, and not at all as clunky or heavy looking as human or dwarven armor.

Yes, I'm aware that they exist and the emerald knights were the most famous of them. Then again, I should remind you that they got slaughtered.

The issue here is that physically speaking, elves are very frail. Even more so after DA2 changed their design.

Then I thought, well, Japanese swordsmen were short and skinny men and that never stopped them from being great in battle. But unfortunately, there are no katanas in this game.

Our warriors either have to lift a heavy chunk of metal (2-handed) or go weapon+shield, which would involve enduring the pounding at your shield from people who are far stronger.

Now, elven warriors might be decent but unlikely to be quite as good as a human, qunari or dwarf.

I personally find it hard to believe that the elves were even able to sack Val Royeaux the way they did.

and I said operations, not tactics, because of this post and others like it; tactics probably didn't matter much in this instance

Nah, it's just the really narrow... everything else.. that makes the face look large.

Oh i know. But i take Arcane Warriors into consideration, they are probably the warriors of the Dalish to be honest.

Yeah, I guess, but Orlais had Templars to deal with that.  IDK it just doesn't make sense to me.

True, but i headcount that my Male Lavellan went on a high-diet after Cassandra told him he was too skinny and frail looking, So i image my guy is probably more looking normal... now.

Because we don't have those. The only exception I remember is Fenris, but he had an unique character model.

Zev in Origins was also fairly muscular.

 

My problem with elven warriors in the DA universe is that, post-Origins, even the male elves have noodle arms and their character models don't look all that realistic, period.  And the post-Origins female elves remind me of Bratz dolls.
