Same here. People are asking on Nexus about it too, and other forums all point to the same broken jse.exe. Tried the one on Nexus, tried another one (forget where from at this point) - v0.6, and tried v0.5. There's also a site that claims to have it, but the link attempts to take you to an infected page.
Where's the real one? No reason jse shouldn't read my Jade Empire: Special Edition. It was installed to the default Origin directory in Program Files (x86)\Origin Games.
I know the game's old, but it just became free on Origin, so lots of people will be trying to mod it (I already made 6 mods for it in 2 weeks).

If you have 64bit Windows:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\Jade Empire] "Path"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Jade Empire"If you have 32bit Windows:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BioWare\Jade Empire] "Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Origin Games\\Jade Empire"Change the Path variable to match wherever you have your Origin games installed. Make sure to use double slashes instead of single. Save the file as a .REG instead of TXT and double click it. When it asks if you want to add the information to the registry, click yes.
Edit: Updated to avoid changing the GUID value Origin uses. It still uses the same key, it just uses the variable "Install Dir" instead of "Path" (along with a bunch of other changes) which trips up the save editor.

So Origin altered the Registry since the jse.exe had it's last update? Well, whatever. Thank you!
Question about it: Can it alter relationship status with a romanceable character (why I wanted to use it)? If not, can anything else do it?

As to what the save editor can do, changing plot flags/variables is possible, but it's not a straightforward or simple exercise.

Not as easy as...
DawnStarRelationshipRank=4 DSWayScore=50 [OpenPalm] SilkFoxRelationshipRank=3 SFWayScore=-20 [ClosedFist]
...or something? I hope I don't need to know rocket science for this.
If only I could make a custom ini for such things. Wish it didn't take me so long to discover this game.

Well, if I learn anything, I'll post about it. Heh, just saw you on another forum about JE. You're a helpful one, bro. Thanks for everything.
Still amazed Origin wasn't even a thing when this game came out. This game was ahead of it's time. I beg for JE2! ![]()

I sorry for being ... uhm... somewhat less capable of understanding tech stuff ... but I could use some clarification here ![]()
I just write up a new Wordpad/notepad document with:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\Jade Empire]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Jade Empire"
(obviously changing the path for my install specifically)
Save it as an .REG file ...
and then... what?
Save that file where? Anywhere? And then just open it? Im sort of stumped here. Sorry ![]()
Alright... Trial an Error have prevailed at last
Sadly the Editor does not help me after all. At least the one that I found.
Not as easy as...
DawnStarRelationshipRank=4
DSWayScore=50 [OpenPalm]
SilkFoxRelationshipRank=3
SFWayScore=-20 [ClosedFist]...or something? I hope I don't need to know rocket science for this.
If only I could make a custom ini for such things. Wish it didn't take me so long to discover this game.
I want the same thing as you
I will eagerly wait far any updates you might have on this problem.
Cheers!
