Now I'm not where near ready to hit it or anything but I noticed that even in the beginning of the game when you have control of the Normandy you can enter it, Anyone do this when not instructed to by the story? Does it kill you?

You can't go through the Omega 4 Relay before they tell you that you can. If you try to go to it it will tell you that you can't.
