Can you accidentally miss Leliana's butler decision?

I am 36 hours into the game, but I haven't got to Skyhold yet. I am a completionist, and I like to finish all available side quests before advancing the plot. Somehow, after going through prelude, hinterlands, val royeux, back to hinterlands, and storm coast, and talking to Leliana after each, I have not triggered the Butler decision.

I got scared and reloaded all of my backup saves and re-talk to Leliana on each. Apparently, literally right after the "My Sympathies" conversation, the agent appears and goes right to her. I must not have saw him after talking to her, and did not think anything of it because I just finished talking to her...

Will this re-trigger or am I screwed? I lost nearly 100 hours of play time because I wanted to restart and get the treasures of thedas and make better decisions, like softening Leliana. I really don't think I can stand to lose 30 hrs fixing this, so if I am screwed is there a console command that will trigger this or an editor so I can at least make the game think I made a choice?

BTW this seems like a horrible design flaw if such an interesting decision can be missed... could someone at EA help with this? This will literally ruin my experience...

I think it can't be recovered by this point, the requisite was ignored.

I didn't think it could be missed... as far as I know it's an automatic cinematic when you talk to her at a certain point.

However, I suppose it might depend on where you are in the game. If you've already done In Hushed Whispers/Champions of the Just but nothing happens when you talk to her, then you may have indeed missed it, and that mission is some sort of milestone trigger. Or, if you neglected talking to her at all for whatever reason, and failed to trigger the preceding cutscene, then I suppose that might make you miss it as well.

As far as the agent goes, once you trigger that event and see him run up, you do not actually have to talk to her at that point. As soon as you enter the area from that time forward, you should see him run up to her, BUT you only get the audio for their conversation once.

If you started hearing the conversation and ignored it, you are screwed.

Have you done all the story content before closing the break yet? Maybe if you haven't, you need to complete some more of them before it will trigger.

I think it should trigger as long as you haven't completed In Hushed Wispers/ Champions of The Just.

I can't remember exactly when it triggered but I know I had to click on Leliana a few times before it did.   You shouldn't be able to miss it, unless you clicked on her and then ended the conversation before it played through.    Messengers are running up to her all the time.    If one was running up just after you had been speaking with her, then that shouldn't have any affect on your ability to trigger the rogue agent conversation.   Have you had the conversation yet about why she wants to help the mages?    From what I remember that comes after the conversation about the agent, so if you have had the mages conversation, then you have missed the previous one, but if you haven't had the mages conversation, then it may still be possible to get it.

No, this is not true. I have done the prayer conversation, seen the NPC run up, and then left the area numerous times without hearing the entire conversation between them, and have still been able to get the Butler conversation at a later time.

I did not talk to Leliana when I first got to Haven. If you remember her, Cullen, Cassandra, and Josephine are in the war room and not available until after entering there for the first time. Unfortunately, I went directly from the war room to the hinterlands, so I didn't talk to her until after getting Mother Giselle. Then, when you get there, and try to walk up to her, there is the crowd of mages and templars accusing each other of attacking the divine. I apparently talked to her right afterwards and got the Leliana praying/my sympathies cut scene. When I went back and loaded my old save, it appears that the guy ran up immediately afterwards. I did NOT hear any of the dialogue, because if I did I would have done the scene out of fear of missing it. Since I have talked to Leliana after Val Royeaux, going back to Hinterlands, and just now after Storm Coast, and NO Butler decision. Honestly, I don't understand how this hasn't happened to more people!

Does anyone know a console command or plot flag I can edit to fix this?

And I have not done Champions of the Just and I only did the Redcliff part of Hushed Whispers so far...

Well, it can happen as i saw quite a bit people complaining about they missed this conversation. To be honest it shouldn't be a problem unless you desperately want to save rouge agent or

Spoiler
ignoring matter is just one of options you can take during this decision.

Im not sure cheats can solve your problem as this console doesn't have same functions that i had in previous games , so you may be forced to load previous save or continue.

Don't panic, not all may be lost.    Have you had the discussion about her wanting to help the mages?     If not, what conversations have you had?    The Butler conversation is totally independent of anything else that happens at Haven.    You should not have lost it because of what was going on with that confrontation between the mages and Templars.    That was definitely much earlier than the Butler conversation in my game.    That guy who runs up to her afterwards is just a random guy.     There have been various buggy conversations in the game but so far as I am aware, Butler is not one of them since I have triggered it on every play through.

Has she spoken to you about Blackwall and did you go and recruit him?   Did you talk to him concerning what happened to the other Wardens?    There is another conversation with her about that which I'm pretty sure happens before Butler.

I am sorry that I can't help with altering console commands or plot flags because I don't know how to do those myself.

I found the plot flag editor with DAI tools. Does anybody know what the Leliana softening plot flag variable is called just in case I did miss it? I really don't want to keep playing if I missed it unless I have a solution...

Hey guys... I am not afraid of doing some work to point me in the right direction.  But please tell me this, has anybody else actually missed the Butler decision? The answer to this question will tell me if should continue playing or stop playing for a couple years until I feel like restarting. Any help is appreciated!

I'm pretty sure you can miss it, because in my first playthrough I did eveyrthing except this to soften Leliana, and she ended up hardened.

I can't remember if I missed this or the prayer conversation though-- but it's definitely possible to miss one or the other.  You're not too deep into the game, I'd say just go back to a bit earlier save maybe?  Or play until you leave Haven, and if it hasn't triggered by then, you definitely missed it (there's another opportunity at Skyhold to soften her, and you'll have missed the Butler one for sure).  Cheers-- good luck!

I completed all of the Hinterlands, Fallow mire, Sword coast (available areas), Val Royeaux. Upon returning to Haven to pick the Mage or Templar quest, I went into her tent and initiated the prayer conversation. Immediately after, an agent runs into the tent and they have an ambient conversation about Butler then you can speak to her to soften or harden her.

Luckily, I seen this topic at the time and visited her. I believe once you start In Hushed Whispers or Champions of the Just, it will be a missed opportunity but I may be wrong.

I did do the prayer conversation, but I guess I didn't see the agent come running. So I have not seen him run up again, despite talking to Leliana after Valley Royale (where she mentioned the Mages), finishing the Hinterlands (where she talked about the Wardens), the storm coast and fallow more (where I had standard investigate conversations). I am starting to believe I am screwed...

I would just go back to an earlier save, but the after experimenting the only save I can trigger it is 30 hr ago. The problem is that I recently restarted because I wanted to soften her and get the new good items with latest patches. Yes, I had been playing my previous game for almost a year. I am disabled and it takes me awhile to get through games. So the thought of doing the hinterlands again and the storm coast again, etc. is just heart braking. Does anybody of any idea how to re-trigger the Butler conversation? I am before Red cliff castle.
