FFS, how the hell am I supposed to beat Dragons on "Nightmare" when my characters freeze during battle!? It happens WAY too often (almost every battle), and when you have fire traps, baby dragons, and the big-ass mama all trying to kill you, I can't be worried about my character hitting a freeze patch so that they can be a direct target for her.

I put so much money into this game, and I expect it, at the very least, to work on a fundamental level.

Bioware stopped supporting with patches after 1.10 or so.

We share your pain. This affects all of us.

Best advice so far is 1) play solo -- or least make sure you can beat a boss if everyone else is dead, or 2) periodically cycle through all characters to make sure they aren't stuck. This is easy to do on PC since there are dedicated keys for each character slot, not sure how to do on consoles. You can unstuck a character by doing a single jump in-place.

I appreciate the response, but this is unacceptable. It's game-breaking. If the game can not work on a rudimentary level, then it is simply broken. The developers should be ashamed of themselves.

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear (and it isn't an answer a well-supported game should ever see), but people can and do overcome this, even on Nightmare, using the techniques PapaCharlie9 suggests. It isn't a feel-good answer. But, in the absence of a bug fix, it's all we've got. You have a choice. You can rage at an injustice that will never be addressed, or you can move past it. If you chose the latter option, no one will ever tell you that you can't grumble about it. We all do.

Thank you for the life lesson, but I'm not "raging" anywhere. I expressed my experience clearly and concisely (though it may seem like I'm a bit late to this party). BioWare sees these, and the more they do, the more they will feel pressure to make sure these things never happen again.

Or they won't.

In which case, they will lose money.

Thank you for confirming that the bug is still there. I just started replaying the game on Nightmare (secretly hoping there would be a patch in progress dealing with this issue). I stopped using melee characters other than a tank in my first playthrough because of this. The ranged AI is still annoying (e.g. they'd keep shooting at a wall instead of moving to have a view on the target behind it), but not nearly as much as your trusted warrior being late to the party or your DD rogue being beaten to pulp because he's unable to move out of the way. You should be able to handle dragons this way. Or just solo them, as it was suggested. This glitch is probably the biggest flaw of the game for me. Otherwise I think it was worth the money.

So far, I also encounter similar bug in both PC&XBOX1 version.

And this bug frequently occur in tactics mode, in order to "free" charactor, i have to quit tactics mode and press "RT"(xbox1) or "mouse left botton"(PC).

I play DAI since first release, this glitch persistant exist and never fixed.

Meanwhile, many other bugs also never fixed, for example you can't de-active "charging bull" when you run out of stanima in tactics mode, what I can do just quit tactics mode and re-enter. similar phenomenon for skill "sheild wall" etc.

Yep, same bug on the PC.  I can't count the number of times Iron Bull or Blackwall has just stood there in a combat pose doing nothing, while my mage is getting rushed and I'm wondering why.  I never play with Tactical View but it still happens.

I put so much money into this game, and I expect it, at the very least, to work on a fundamental level.

There are two possibly three ways to deal with the generic ** freeze glitch when it happens.

    1) Switch to the frozen character and tell it to jump. I have read that you can also just issue an attack command (shield bash etc.) but don't          remember this working for me;

    2) Use 'disengage'. The whole group stops for a second but will start attacking again as soon as they notice the enemy.

This glitch showed up after Patch 1.7 and may be caused by a basic problem with the Frostbite engine.  Because of that the glitch may not be fixable from Bioware's end unless they make a complete change in the party AI system. Its complicated. Anyway there is likely never going to be a solution to this problem.

Fighting dragons at knightmare level is actually pretty routine for me. The big compensating factor for glitches or other weaknesses in the AI in DAI is that you can make weapons, gear and potions that can make you pretty overpowered (any tier 4 stuff with 'guard on hit'). Most of the time when there is a freeze I'm able to deal with it before any real damage occurs. Other times I just reload the auto-save just before the battle. I actually think it adds to the challenge of the game in that you have to keep checking how your party members are doing -- which makes some sense in that you are supposed to be their leader. Lots of games have glitches or bad elements of gameplay, you either ride with it or don't.

** There is another freeze glitch I noticed after Patch 1.10.   This is where Blackwall is in the party and where he is set up as a 2 hander and possibly where he is using one of the unique swords, its been a while so I've forgotten the details but it can cause Blackwall or sometimes the Inquisitor(?) to freeze up completely.

Another thing I have noticed that still remains is the AI just stand around like dumbasses if you use a sleep ability.  I played the game extensively at release and just got back into it after buying the dlc and a lot of the annoying things are still present.  Amazing that they have fixed almost all of the trivial stuff that only those that lacked any real willpower/self control banged on about, yet ignored stuff that really does have an impact on game-play.

And here I thought it was just MY Blackwall. I figured he'd taken too many hits to the head. LOL! It is annoying, that's certain.

Do any of you get the weird glitch where your chosen party member does a strange "dance" (all four limbs moving rhythmically and they sort of "float" at the same time? Pretty strange! I always have to save and exit to the main menu and go back in to get the character to move normally again.
