No, it doesn't. There's a very subtle line lore-wise that's drawn after awakening and if it wasn't for that miscarriage of a game that was DA2 it would be much more visible. Also I respect your pessimistic views on the game's future but politely choose to ignore them.

Yes it does , Mage-Templar war that was introduced in dragon age 2 and there issue present was since first game, Corypheus was introduced in da 2 and was magister that went to the black city what was part of the lore since first game , Flemeth and morrigan plot that were introduced in first game and resolve around elven religion and gods that were part of the lore since first game , Orlesian civil war that began in masked empire and steamed from Orlais desire to get Ferelden back what was already introduced in dragon age 2.Even things that will be part of next game like Solas that is resolving like flemeth around elven gods and relgion as well Qunari conflict with Tevinter that was introduced long time ago.And that is just major stuff there is a lot more of just expanding already present lore and stories.

Aside from fact that at least half of stuff i pointed wasn't after awakening only since first game , dragon age 2 is still previous game and dragon age inquisition mostly just expanded plots and lore that were already in series either since first or second game , so no it isn't new direction because those things were present as i said already in previous games and they only expanded them.
