So I have began a new character on Insane difficulty. I did a playthrough in 2010 and unlocked all the perks you can unlock the very firs time around, then I played a second character not long after that (who I carried through through ME2 and 3 but that's besides the point). However, this time I decided not to do a real New Game+ with that guy. I thought about it, and tried it through Eden Prime, and even though starting at level 56 or whatever I was, with all my gear, boat load of credits and inventory was interesting, I decided to just go ahead and make a fresh start but with Insane difficulty. So, with the experience boosts from achievements I unlocked a long time ago and all the other boosts, I am starting at level 1 Insanity. My question is... Can this guy get to 60? That's the only achievement I left undone (besides a random ability 75 times achievement and some complete most of the game with so-and-so). Or, even with Insanity and exp boosts, can you only get a New Game+ character to 60?

As far as I know, there is no way to reach level 60 in one playthrough. I heard about a glitch that can help, but I've never used it. I got my trophy for reaching level 60 during a new game plus. The highest level I got doing everything in the game was about level 54. I've read posts from people that have gotten to level 57.

Yeah my "main" character, the one I carried through to ME3, was 56 at the end of 1 playthrough, but definitely not 57.

 

Oh well, that answers my question then. No biggie. I'm still enjoying a totally fresh character.

Yes, there is a glitch on Therum that can in theory get you to level 60 in one playthrough, but it:

• is an exploit,
• is very dull, and
• takes forever.

You can definitely get to 56.  57 is hard to do without the DLC installed, you might have to glitch Paragon / Renegade to get both morality based missions.  Of course, need to kill everything on foot too.

I thought the level was capped at 50 on a first playthrough. Is that not the case?

Did you exit the Mako to kill things, including Thresher Maws? You get a lot less XP in the Mako, but you can weaken things down as much as you want. As long as you finish them off on foot, you get the full experience.

yea I did that on my vanguard. I got to 58 but couldn't quite get the 60. So very very close.  Then again ps3 lacks pinnacle station DLC so I don't know how much if any you can get form that.

Yes, you have to beat the game at least once to unlock levels 51-60.  My very first character only hit Level 42.

The XP requirement for 59 to 60 is essentially something like half of a vanilla game campaign.  There is a thread about getting to 60 on the very first two runs (1-50, then 50-60), he had both BDtS and Pinnacle Station, and unlocked the XP bonus achievements Power Gamer and Completionist the first time around.

I finally got the Ultimate Power Player achievement took me 2 full walkthroughs and Eden prime. Also bring down the sky Dlc on the first walkthrough.
My 2nd walkthrough I finally downloaded Pinnacle station but didn't play BDTS. If I did play BDTS I probably wouldn't have to go through a 3rd play through even though it was the first mission alone.
