How often do you people actually hear people be addressed?  you turn your head to face the person you're addressing, or some other such thing.

These cues could be offered through camera movement and shot framing.  We don't need the game to assign us a name.

Oh. Many times.

Many, many, many times.

I am writing prose, screenwriting, plays and I also work sometimes as a journalist. So i've recorded a much audio of people speaking naturally with each other. And they actually add names to almost everything what they say. At least where I live.

Yes, it would be great for a LI to refer to the main character by his or her first name. You know, like normal people do.

...and those who are not part of the 'popularity list' can just. what? go and...well, you know?

Also if you multiply the amount of characters per amount of names? It would be a damn huge list, for no good reason.

If we are talking about 'realism', it's much more realistic not to mention the name of a person you're talking to. I can't honestly remember when had I last called my husband by his name, especially when it's just two of us. Intimate nicknames - yes. Name or surname? I don't think so. I know it can be sometimes common to use surnames or titles for the people who study, work or serve together, but that's it.

It's rather uncommon to mention the names, 'You look tired, love' sounds much more natural than 'You look tired, John' (when spoken to the person one cares deeply about). 'You look tired, commander' - something Ashley or Kaidan could say, because it fits the characters' arc.

I'd rather be called some kind of pet name by my LI than constantly by my names or rank. Maybe give the option to pick if that should happen or not so those that don't like it that way can do their thing. It's just too formal for my taste if I never hear "Hey love" or something

As long as that pet name isn't actual pet name!

Like "kitten", hell I had one ex that called me "Fifi" while other one called me "teddy-bear" like seriously stop calling my like that I'm not bloody cat or dog and....are you trying to say I'm fat and hairy? Is that why you are calling me "teddy-bear" -emotion intensify-

Like seriously I'm fine with "dear" or "love" but no Fifies or teddies plz xD

I like "Ryder" just fine. I really don;t want to have "Pathfinder" blarbed after me every time I turn around. Especially after so much,"Inquisitor" blarbing.

Or during romance scenes, the Pathfinder blurts out "the Path...has been found" then fades to dark...

Just curious. Where do you live? And what kind of people is that?

This isn't directed specifically at you but what's with everyone claiming they never use people's names? I use a person's name a lot when I'm talking to them but you all act like you go around yelling "Oi, you!" to everyone.

Well, yeah. People usually use names a lot at work; when conversing with friends or family in a more relaxed setting, it's less common.

Oh, Danke-shen.

Those are our dogtags, though, right? I mean, before I get to accustomed to the idea of "Ryder".

And if those are the dogtags of the new PC that say Ryder on them,  wth is that Not!YourPC guy doing with them?

It's not confirmed. For all we know, they might be Not!YourPC guy's.

It does seem conspicuous and misleading if it isn't, but they might be doing that on purpose.

Also according to Dale Carnegie, author of How to Win Friends & Influence People:

Remember that a person’s name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.

I very rarely use people's names, and find it weird when they use mine. I do use names to get someone's attention, but in an actual conversation, it's strange. They know I'm talking to them.

Just using my goddamn surname is fine. No need to call me by my rank. Well, only if you're a soldier or lieutenant under my command.

I'd rather not be addressed.

Hey, you.  Yeah, you.  Go pick some elfroot for me, you.

Ryder is fine...Pathfinder is fine.  I don't really care as long as the game/story is good.
