ME2 Collectors' Edition disc 2 not recognised?

Whilst going through the install process of the game, disc 1 encounters no problems whatsoever. But when it tells me to insert disc 2 to continue the setup, and after I insert it, nothing happens.

It would appear that the disc is not being recognised, though no error or such comes up, so I really have no idea what to do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Am I really the only one experiencing this problem?

No. I did too. Register the game and use the direct download link and then download and install it through the EA Download Manager.

I have the same problem, but it's with the digital verson of the game and it sais disc 2 when it is no disk at all, so I had to press cancel.

Yep. Disc 2 is being recognised in my DVD drive, but the installation process says that it isn't inserted - its autorun feature does nothing.

But when I cancel the process, and run the autorun feature, it tells me to insert disc 1, so it obviously *is* working.

This is really weird.

So your game is working and you have no problems?

No, it is not working.

I cannot get past the installation process, because disc 2 is not being recognised during the process.

If there was an error code or something, that would make sense, but there isn't, and the disc is usable when not in the installation process. It doesn't make any sense.

What a waste.

Yep, it isn't working at all. The installation process does not detect disc 2, even though it is in the DVD drive.

I'm giving up on this horrid game, its a total disgrace to PC fans, the big wigs at EA think they can switch us to consoles forget it. They should wake up and smell the coffee i am not switch in regardless , and Bio Ware should have some respect to PC users and put out a game and copies of the game that work, why cause they designed the frig-gin game on PC first .

Kinda got the same problem, I can start the installation just fine, but when I'm promted to insert Disk 2 my  computer doesn't  even recognize that Disk, it's liek I inserted nothing, which annoys me quite a lot since I pre-ordered and didn't get that code either.

Hey guys, I had the same problem. What I ended up doing is taking a different DVD drive from one of our other machines and hooking it up to my computer. The other drive could read the second disc, so I was able to install the game. If you have access to another DVD drive, you could try that.

Here are a few other things to check out/try:

1) If you have DVD43 installed on your system, disable it. I've read it can interfere with reading the discs. If you don't know what DVD43 is, then you don't have it.

2) If your drive will read the disc, but won't install, you can try mounting an image and installing from that. Instructions from another thread:

Step 1. uninstal all copies of me2

Step 2. put cd2 in your cd tray

Step 3. Useing deamon tools or a program like that make an image of the cd

Step 4. Mount said image of disk 2

Step 5. put cd 1 in cd tray

Step 6. instal, it shouldnt ask for disk 2 becuase you have it mounted in a virtual drive

Step 7. ???

Step 8. PROFIT!

Also
to make sure you've got everything you need your mass effect folder at
the end of the instal should total roughly 11.4GB if it's less you are
missing something smack yourself and start from step 1.

3) You can try DLing EA Download Manager and using your CD key to register the game on that. Then DL the digital version.

4) Try updating your DVD drive's firmware.

5) If none of that works, you can try returning the game to your retailer and exchanging for a new copy. Some people have reported exchanging has worked for them.

Good luck, and post back if any of this works for you.

Thank you for the reply/help Eurypterid , I did d/l daemon lite (free one) and that seem to only handle image files ?? unless im missing something i couldnt drag/copy drive E (my main DVD drive) to new drive F.

where is the EA download manager ?? ive searched /trawled the EA site and registered my 'non DD mass effect 2" and can find no mention of a DD version i can d/l using my current key.

Returning atm isnt an option as i got it mail order from amazon :( ..

EDIT ... Daemon advanced demo (20 days) works fine so far , copied disk 2 to new virtual drive F and the installation didnt even ask for disk 2 , its still installing but looking good so far ..

Thank You ..
