lol - Since I experienced the same problem I know how frustrating it is. And the game's a lot of fun, so I'd like to help as many people get to that fun as I can.

Well i am happy to report that with the virtual drive enabled i have installed the game succesfully , i reccomend this option to any others in the same boat. Just D/l ing the add on stuff right now and the installation of that seems daft compared to the dragon age easy installer .. don't think this was thought through very well ..

anyway as an add-on .. for installing the extra stuff , when you put the code in it asks you to download the files , do so , then ONLY try and install them i.e double click the saved file when ME2 menu is NOT running . else its impossible to do so. Still waiting to see if they are picked up in game (esp the dragon armour as that code was used in dragon age but registers to both games , fingers crossed ) .

I also had a problem running ME2 from the main DVD drive (disk 2) while the virtual drive F still had the copied disk 2 showing , so just to be safe (and get over the 20 day trial) either uninstall Daemon or unload drive F's contents before running the game. I cleared F just in case i need to re-install within 20 days..

Cor .. Watta Palava !

Hey guys, I had the same problem. What I ended up doing is taking a different DVD drive from one of our other machines and hooking it up to my computer. The other drive could read the second disc, so I was able to install the game. If you have access to another DVD drive, you could try that.

Here are a few other things to check out/try:

1) If you have DVD43 installed on your system, disable it. I've read it can interfere with reading the discs. If you don't know what DVD43 is, then you don't have it.

2) If your drive will read the disc, but won't install, you can try mounting an image and installing from that. Instructions from another thread:

Step 1. uninstal all copies of me2

Step 2. put cd2 in your cd tray

Step 3. Useing deamon tools or a program like that make an image of the cd

Step 4. Mount said image of disk 2

Step 5. put cd 1 in cd tray

Step 6. instal, it shouldnt ask for disk 2 becuase you have it mounted in a virtual drive

Step 7. ???

Step 8. PROFIT!

Also
to make sure you've got everything you need your mass effect folder at
the end of the instal should total roughly 11.4GB if it's less you are
missing something smack yourself and start from step 1.

3) You can try DLing EA Download Manager and using your CD key to register the game on that. Then DL the digital version.

4) Try updating your DVD drive's firmware.

5) If none of that works, you can try returning the game to your retailer and exchanging for a new copy. Some people have reported exchanging has worked for them.

Good luck, and post back if any of this works for you.

Thanks for this, I downloaded the Daemon Advanced trial too and followed the steps.  It worked like a charm which pleases me no end because I live in the boonies and it's a 90 minute drive to the shop where I purchased the game.

Once again, thanks!

Bought retaill standard copy yesterday. Sad to report I have the same problem, tried installing several times last night PST thinking I'd play the game tonight, no luck! I will try the V-Drive solution, and report back. I'll try DL if I have to.

Thanks everyone.

If it's any help to anybody with this problem or anybody investigating at Bioware's end. I have two DVD drives (letters G and H). If I put disk 1 in drive G and start the install when it gets to disk 2 it ejects drive H and only recognises disk 2 if I put it in there.

Course in my case that doesn't matter 'cos once I've got it installed it crashes as soon as I launch, but that's another story :(

Ive had the same issue but i got it to work by copying all of disc 2 to a new folder on my desktop while its "explorable" in My computer. Then just installed as normal and it went along with out asking for disc 2 at all.

I'm having the exact same problems. EA needs to do a recall.

I tried mounting the image of disc 2. Didn't work. I even tried doing it with both dvds. Didn't work.

I tried copying disc 2 onto desktop folder while it's explorable. Didn't work.

Now I am at my last resort; the EA download manager. If this doesn't work I swear to God I'm gunna throw something. *deep breath* I'm gunna have to return it (purchased from Amazon) and get the game off of Steam.

This is too much freaking work just to play a game. I don't like spending 60 bucks just to get pissed and yell at my computer.

Easiest way I found to fix this issue for me was to put Disc 1 into drive 1 and disc 2 into drive two and no problem with install. For some reason it didn't want to use the same drive to install both discs.

My dvd drive (LG DVD writer) didn't recognize the second disc as well. Fortunately, I have a second drive (lite on Blue ray) and this drive recognized and installed with no problem. In my case I had to use one drive for both.
