I had a romance with a jetpack once, called himself hk-47 or something... can't remember. But i admired his skills of killing meatbags.

I hope the romance plot with the jet-pack will be a deep one.

If jetpacks are a thing now, I hope there is a space walk portion or two.
Zero G jetpack shenanigans for ME:A!
Yes, there's a lot of potential to make space feel properly spacey if we don't have to worry about always being grounded.
I don't see the love for jetpacks.
That's okay, I forgive you.

I feel there a lot similarities between love and jetpack flight. The sudden rush at first followed by the uncertain rising stomach feeling, and always the genuine risk of hurtling out of control, crashing, and finding a new definition of pain and suffering as we are slowly digested over a thousand years in the belly of the all-powerful Sarlacc. We may not have all used a jetpack but we've all been there.
Jetpacks are awesome, but foot thrusters things like Iron Man's would be even more awesome.
Rocket boots are cool, but I find them hard to accept for anything trying to be moderately serious. They do not say 'stable flight'.
Shucks I was hoping for this to be a discussion about either romancing jetpacks or having a romance exclusively develop while flying around on jetpacks.
At the very least I would expect jetpacks to open up new flirt dialogue with all potential romances.
Regarding the thread's actual topic, here's what I'd say: Jetpacks are fun and awesome, but I do think that incorporating them would require some fundamental alterations to ME's design philosophy. ME has never really emphasized variety in environmental manipulation. Beyond shooting, talking, taking cover and using your powers, there are not a whole lot of actions you can perform to interact with the environment. ME's level design has never been vertically-oriented (i.e. multiple floors in a single area, etc.), and since ME1, levels have gotten smaller and more linear (especially in combat zones). If you're really going to do jetpacks, then they would probably work better in a game whose design philosophy is more like that of Deus Ex or Dishonored than Mass Effect. I think it would be cool to see an ME game with a design philosophy like that, but I don't think it's the way they're going.
Those are all reasons why I'm hoping they go all out with jetpacks. Something needs to pull ME's level design kicking and screaming out of 2006. I feel that between showing jetpacks and how open worlds are the new interactive cover enough attention should be given to how they design spaces to justify changing things up.

Throw in an Eezo core to reduce the wearer's mass and a tiny jetpack could perform far above what would be expected... able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Yup. Hell, you could probably leave the Tempest in orbit and just jump back up to it (assuming you've got a suit computer to work out the trajectory) - no need for shuttles.

I still love the idea of Jetpacks, especially when I think about the Turian Havoc in ME3MP. I think it might be a good way to give the soldier class some more unique combat abilities, if soldiers could do a few jetpack related things that the other classes can't.

I would like to be able to customize the design of my jetpack, for the ultimate in sleek and aerodynamic jetpack aesthetics.

I bet every character will have some kind of jet pack ability, integrated into a skilltree and fitting the class of the character. Like Engineers have high tech mass effect thingies, soldiers dirty rocket engines with area of effect flame damage and Adepts have "Biotic Levitation".

My only concern with having a jetpack would be how easy it is to operate. Especially if they make us navigate across lava or other "touch it and you die" perils, like in ME2.
I hate lava.

I hope [jet packs] will make moving around more fluid and easier and just benefit exploration as a whole.
Isn't the new cool mako supposed to make moving around more fluid and easier and just benefit exploration as a whole?

Only with Adrenaline Rush, I fear.

I wonder if enemies will have jetpacks too, of if it is something unique to the protagonist.
Enemies having them could make for some interesting gameplay changes. If enemies have them I also hope it is possible to shoot an enemy's jetpack and cause it to rocket out of control, similar to how you could shoot the flame tank on characters using flame throwers in ME2 and cause them to explode. Seeing mooks rocket all over the map and slamming into stuff could be fun.

Thus, we'll use jet packs at our own risk and peril - YMMV

I would not be surprised if they're used only to get to higher spots and across hazardous spots. Once activated, it would last only a couple of seconds.

They're easily the best thing in Battlefront.

For us it would likely just be a unique animation for if we reached no health while in flight. Not many games let the AI skill shot the player.
