Thinking about not recruiting...

Sera, Iron Bull and Cole.

So I've rolled a new Inquisitor after finishing Trespasser with my Levallan and I wanted to do more of a devout, traditional Inquisitor. I'm thinking of telling those three to GTFO or not join at all. Would I miss anything but their personal quests/war table actions? Curious if Bull would show up in Trespasser with him never joining the Inquisition. Does Sera try to strike back at you? I imagine Cole just goes away never to be heard from again. Solas is not going to like this Inquisitor. :D

You'd miss out on their war table operations, and Sera does give you the Jar of Bees. But it could be done.

The Golden Nug will give me the bees though, and a few hundred influence points and a blue item or two is no big loss. Basically I want to play as a devout, patriarchal noble. Vivienne's best friend, so Cole is out for sure. Sera, because she's a petty criminal and churl, and why employ a Qunari spy called 'Liar'?

I'd kick apostate Solas out as well, but for obvious reasons the game won't even give you the option. We'll see if he gets punched.

I had a playthrough without Vivienne, and she wasn't in Trespasser. I imagine it would be the same for Bull, he's not integral to the plot. Sure, he adds a lot of spice to it, but it can go on without him. As for the main game, you just miss out on their related quests but it doesn't affect the outcome of the game, AFAIK.

You'd miss out on content, basically, I don't think anything different would be added because you didn't recruit them.

You're not missing out. Though Sera still shows up in Trespasser throwing hams around the spa even if you don't recruit her.

I've had several Inquisitors that don't recruit everyone - one that didn't recruit Dorian or Blackwall (didn't trust Dorian, didn't need Blackwall), one that didn't pick up Iron Bull or Vivienne (didn't trust Bull, vehmently disagreed with Vivienne's politics) and one that rejected Cole because she thought he was a demon. I expect I'll play a character that doesn't recruit Sera at some point.

If it doesn't make sense for the character you're roleplaying to let someone into the Inquisition, I would definitely recommend telling them to go away. That way you don't end up having to justify why your demon-hating Inquisitor who's suspicious of the Fade would even talk to Cole or why your aggressively pro-mage freedom Inquisitor is hanging with Vivienne.

Only one of mine has recruited Sera then, she got the boot as soon as I got Jar of Bees and Pel Harmond. One only recuited Blacwall and Vivienne, then left Blackwall in prison. Another recruited all except sera but managed to get them all mad at him and, dumped them when he could.

You have a warrior, rouge and, mage from the start and, a second of whichever you play so, no real need to recruit anyone. All you losoe is inner circle quests, some dialog and, mostly thier presence for Trespasser. It is entirely possible to play the entire game and not recruit anyone.

I just don't get anyone who'd purposely not recruit everyone. You pay a lot of money for the game and then purposely cut out content from the game. Waste of time and money if you ask me.

Vivienne and Sera are particlularly divisive characters. I certainly didn't enjoy their content when I first played through the game. I came to appreciate Sera, but still have no time for Vivienne. I still recruit her for RP reasons, but would be much happier if she had never existed.

Once you've beaten the main game with a full roster, why not experiment with some more thoughtful RP choices for another run?

But Sera is pro-Andraste.

I did a playthrough not recruiting anyone. I only used Varric Cassandra and Solas. Since I haven't played the trespasser dlc yet, I don't know what effect doing a playthrough like that would do in the dlc.

I did recruit Balckwall after getting to Skyhold. He had different dialogue especially if Cassandra and Varric are in your party. I believe Sera had a couple of different lines of dialogue if she's recruited after Skyhold

This. Also, not recruiting everyone each time makes different playthroughs feel less same-y.

Well, I recruited everyone the first two times I played the game. Just like I visited all the areas on my initial run, but now I usually skip two or three of the exploration areas altogether on each repeat. Because I replay the game a lot, it helps to make each playthrough feel slightly different.

I think it's kind of fun to recruit characters and then really annoy them; it makes for some interesting interactions.

I have no desire for multiple versions. When i play the game i make the decisions i make the first time around because those are the ones i want to stick with. I have no desire to see anything but my first choices and if i play the game again i make the same choices as i did the first time.

I don't think i've ever played any of the Dragon Age or Mass Effect games where i wasn't friends with everyone. I like being nice to everyone.

If I made the same choices with the same (or very similar) PC, I'd waste mopney by playing the game only once - not worth it for that. I change it up to see what changes.

I did wind up recruiting Sera, but I think she won't be staying long. Her offer is intruiging, and the prospect of having hundreds of 'little birds' spread around Thedas singing their songs does have appeal. As a bow rogue I have no use for her though. I may reconsider not hiring Bull, not too sure yet but I'm adamant about no Cole, this Inquisitor would agree with Vivienne and Cassandra that he's a demon. I'm looking forward to Solas' reaction. :D

The only one I never recruit is strangely Iron Bull. Simply because he says to my face that he's a spy. Why would I recruit a spy from the enemy?

Other than a pretty good Necro, how is Qun the enemy at the moment? For all you know, they're neutral, because the Breach is a threat great enough for them to stop their bull.

Aaah, it's better than a wire in your eye, as we say here, lethallan.

(Still can't match Dienne. We should get her to Necro something older than five, six years)
