This is the first time I'm playing ME2 on PC and I'm using the Gibbed save editor. I'm doing a fast playthrough so I only did a few loyalty missions and for the rest of my companions, I checked off their "loyal" boxes in the editor. They are showing as loyal in squad selection with the red circles, but it doesn't unlock their special power and when I talk to them, they still talk to me as if it hasn't been done, and their quests are showing as unfinished. Except for Thane, who thanks me for helping him with Koylat and I even got the letter from Bailey in C-Sec.  Is there something else I'm missing in the editor or is that just the way it works? Will they still survive the suicide mission?

If I remember correctly, there's multiple loyalty values in the RAW section which makes it quite tedious indeed. It's a bit messy and will drive you to hair-pulling so it's safer to just do the loyalty missions.

 

Oh and don't activate Zaeed's alternate outfit when you do HIS loyalty mission, because the game will freeze & crash every single time.

Good to know. It's so weird that Thane's worked as I expected, as if I'd completed it, but I didn't do anything different with him.

Probably too late, but if you somehow haven't made it to Illium yet and if you hadn't threatened Conrad Verner with a gun back in ME1 (and dealt with him nicely instead), you should definitely fix the flags for that in Gibbed for your ME2 save. Hands down one of the best things you can do with Gibbed.
