Agreed that he'll get a relative downgrade.
That won't mean that he won't be uber powerful. More like the next protagonist will be of the sort (not necessarily a straight vertical upwards direction in 'power level') with new tools to counteract.
One of my favorite easy theories is we'll be a Dreamer and start to touch on the god-tier of the elves (though the plot won't have us prance around as an Evanuris-level being, sure).
I hope we don't actually play a Dreamer, or have a party member who is a Dreamer and isn't hiding his power for the sake of a greater plot. There's no way a video game will be able to properly portray the amount of power they have except by having us fight one, especially considering that Dragon Age seems to be streamlining its noncombat options to some degree.
