I am having problems installing Mass Effect 2 on my PC. Installation is interrupted part way through with "Installation Failed!: The Installation of Mass Effect 2 has failed. A data error occured,"
My computer:
Window 7 64bit
Intel Q9400
4 GB RAM
ATI XFX 4890 (Catalyst 9.11 drivers)
Creative X-fi Titanium Pro sound card
I'm using a DVD copy of Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition I bought from Amazon.
Unable to install Mass Effect 2

Unfortunately, several of us are experiencing this same problem. It's some sort of installer issue that seems to occur on Windows 7, 64 bit machines.
Anyway, I managed to solve this issue just a few minutes ago but it required using a second computer. Basically, I just put the installation disk in the other computer (a Vista laptop in my case), set the DVD drive up for sharing, and then connected to it from my gaming computer and installed that way. It takes time but works. The only trick is that when ME2 asks for the second DVD you have to first stop sharing the DVD drive, eject disk1, insert disk2, set the drive for sharing again, and continue with the installation.
Pain in the ass, but at least I'm playing now.
Good luck!

Your fix almost worked! I got almost 3/4 of the second disc installed and then I got the Data Error again. :<
I've been trying to get this to work for two days now... And I've been waiting to play this game for like two years! It's driving me crazy. *sigh*
Thanks for your help. Almost had it.

Have you tried copying the contents over to your HDD and installing it locally rather than from the DVD?
Also if you're changing the install path, try letting it install to its default path.

This method didn't work either. I didn't even get the first disc installed before the error occured. :/
I created a folder on my desktop and dragged all the files to it. No luck.
