I want to do a final run of Dragon Age Origins before I start my canon run of Inquisition. This run of Origins is essentially going to solidify my DAO canon as well. So here's my problem, I really enjoy both Morrigan's and Alistair's romance. So my struggle involves which one to go with. If I go with a male Cousland, he will romance Morrigan, do the Dark Ritual, and follow her through the mirror. If I go the female route, she'd romance Alistair, Dark Ritual might be done (if not she'd make the sacrifice, if done she'd be Alistair's queen. This is another slight hiccup...).

Ugh I keep flip flopping and can't make a decision! So I turn here, and hope you guys can help sway me! Oh, and I plan on playing a warrior: 2 Handed Male or a S&S Female. So yeah, there it is. Open to any and all suggestions! Help please?

I'd go with a male Cousland.  From what I hear, Morrigan is more involved with the plot of Inquisition than Alistair is, so a Morrigan romance makes more sense from my point of view if the choice is between her and Alistair.

Ha :D I'd go with female Cousland/Alistair. But it really is up to you.

I did enjoy how the romance was portrayed in Inquisition, and how they tied in the Warden.

You're in a bit of a pickle. Don't you have a gut feeling about this? What gender do you find yourself more attached to? What romance? Like you, my favorite romances were Alistair and Morrigan, but I've always preferred playing as female characters. Thus, my canon was easily an Alistair romance. Also, while I find Morrigan's romance very amusing, she's just so difficult. Which begs the question: who do you like more of the two personally? I find Morrigan's evil behavior amusing while I like how good of a person Alistair is. Ironically, I also found Morrigan much more a fool than Alistair (who happens to be right most of the time I feel), despite her always proclaiming the opposite. Keep in mind, Morrigan also treats you like a doormat. Even that final romance scene in Witch Hunt happens after she abandoned you for 2 1/2 years and you just won't move on. The "happily ever after" through the eluvian after that long apart is a bit of hard sell as well. Things to consider.

At least with a Cousland you can marry and be a monarch.  This Origin leads to a very solid foundation for your Warden going forward in the history of Ferelden and they can't disappear very easily.

Married to Anora is okay, but married to Alistair has way more to do with the story.  You're married to a Theirin after all and have a greater chance to be referenced in subsequent games.

Personally I'd go with my gut based on who I was most fond of but you could also think about like this - do you have another playthru romancing either Ali or Morrigan that you see as an important world state for you?  If you do, go with the opposite so you can take both through to DA4.

The two-handed warrior is a pretty lame spec.  I'd go with the sword and shield option.

Yeah I've played male Cousland once. A bit of a screwed playthrough really. Never really romanced anyone and ended up doing the US as he wasn't really sure about what he wanted. Next Cousland will likely be a female though as I'd love to do one that becomes Queen of Ferelden alongside Alistair My current Warden Louisa is romancing him but I'm planning for them both to remain in the wardens and let Anora take the throne. Although Loghain will die for his crimes

yeah Sword and Shield works best on DAO. DA2 leans more to 2 handed weapons I think more. Not sure about DAI as I've not done a warrior yet there. Planning on doing a sword and shield templar warrior in my current one though working my way through Origins and 2 first though.

Only reason I'd pick 2 Handed is because I like the looks of several of the weapons (petty right?). But, after reading through everyone's thoughts I think I'm going to go the female route this go around. Being a male, I find I play too many male characters. Time to switch it up a bit I suppose. Plus I plan on playing a female character in DAI, good practice I guess? And I do have a different male playthrough I'm pretty happy with.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Wow!  :D We have the exact same world. Really; It's shocking how much alike our Amell's truly are!

Alistair is a terrible spouse. Morrigan isn't much better, but she is better. With her you get a child with her. With Alistair, she gets a child with him, which he never sees, but still. And with a male Cousland you can have a normal son or a possessed son who is later not possessed anymore. But with a female Cousland, Alistair can only create an old god baby, not a normal one.

Also, Alistair is an idiot in Inquisition. Which sort of suggests your female will have no positive influence on him.

Go with male. There's something edgy about a son from a noble family getting involved with a dark sorceress, compared to noble family joining with another noble family.

I've tried all the romance options in DA:O and Morrigan is my beau. Alistair's courtship was kinda fun, but meh... You have a choice between a cunning insanely powerful (depending on your play style) temptress OR a sword swinging brainless calf that sees the world through the lens of a child who you can die for or offer his family jewels up to an other woman... an idea which he doesn't exactly put up much of a fight against... (seriously, I do not understand the Alistair gush thread)

I love both characters though I've only played through as a female Cousland who marries Alistair.  My boys either start with Morrigan and then break up with her for Leliana or never romanced Morrigan at all. I've never been able to complete the Morrigan romance though I love the character.  I really prefer her dialogues with a 'friend' male warden over a romanced one.  Friendship mystifies her, and love absolutely terrifies her.

Fortunately keep allows me to envision a warden who loves her and shares the raising of their child, since it's very easy for me to love Morrigan, but hard to put up with all the angst her romance entails.

Both are great characters in Origins, though Morrigan has more of a presence in Inquisition, especially if you romanced her, had the child and followed her into the eluvian.  She's grown into the romance by then, seeing that she doesn't have to give up all of herself to be with someone else, and draws strength from the union.  Some great character development there, in particular toward their son.

Alistair's romance is sweet and kind of old fashioned, and he's very much a KISA.  Being a handsome prince doesn't hurt his prospects either.

In short, both have their up and downsides, especially since you enjoy both, it would be hard to pick, but if it were me, I'd go with Morrigan because of her greater involvement in Inquisition.

I'm planning a Morrigan romance for one of my Wardens.  May I ask you something?

I was going to break them up then have my Warden do the US so that Morrigan has a regular human child.  You said that Morrigan in DAI has great character development if you live and continue the romance - I'd change my Warden so the romance continues, my warden lives, and Morrigan is still with him in DAI if it's worthwhile.  Should I?

I'm a sucker for experiencing the most out of Thedas if I can, doing all the choices at some point.  So which is better, a human child and a dead warden, or an OG child with a continued romance?

Apologies if you have no idea lol, and hi!  I've seen you around on the forums as I've been lurking for over a year so I thought I'd say hello.  *waves*

Hi, Arcadia. :D

For the Morrigan who has normal son, I have no idea about.  I only did Morrigan who didn't romance the dad (my King Cousland on one run, Alistair on another), and one with Morrigan who romanced the Warden and he went with her into the Eluvian.  In both instances, she has only nice things to say about the PC, and even a kind word about Alistair if he is the dad (IKR?  Who'd have thought?).  If you romanced her, she has a lot more to say about the PC warden, but I'll leave that for you to learn.  I have not done a USed warden at all as I really love Morrigan as a mom, although I'm contemplating the normal Kieran run when I am feeling better.  If you haven't played Inquisition, I won't spoil you, but my favorite scene ever in the games happens with her and her OGB son in the Fade, late in the game.

Thank you!

I'm going to have to give it a try.  I'm on my first DAI run right now, just finished What Pride Has Wrought, and she has no baby at all.  She's the same old Morrigan, rather snappy and annoyed at me for not letting her drink from the well and sashaying around Skyhold with lots of sideboob.  I thought it was a good place to start because then I can play again and see her as a mother, and how different it makes her.

I hope you feel better soon, take care   :)
