Buy and read online on Dark Horse Digital. Issue 1. Issue 2. Issue 3. Issue 4. Issue 5.

If you need a reason to read it: from Polygon...

Dragon Age: Magekiller will begin in the capitol city of Tevinter, just before the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition. It'll mark the first time Minrathous has been directly depicted in Dragon Age canon, and, as a self-described "research junkie," Rucka says Bioware provided all the necessary details he could hope for.
...
Magekiller will also see the rise of the Venatori, the Tevinter cult that worships and works for Dragon Age: Inquisition's villain Corypheus, with the end of issue #2 corresponding to the destruction of the Conclave, the inciting event of the game. The first arc of the series will encompass the full plot of Inquisition, however, and after that it'll be striking out into new territory for the franchise.
...
There are plans for appearances from major game characters, Rucka says, but ultimately he wants to focus on expanding the world of Dragon Age. Just as vitally, he wants to make sure that Magekiller feels like it could fit within anyone's playthrough, despite the variety of decisions that make up a given player's version of events.

Magekiller is actually important to the events of DAI in a story sense. From Polygon: "Magekiller will also see the rise of the Venatori, the Tevinter cult that worships and works for Dragon Age: Inquisition's villain Corypheus, with the end of issue #2 corresponding to the destruction of the Conclave, the inciting event of the game. The first arc of the series will encompass the full plot of Inquisition, however, and after that it'll be striking out into new territory for the franchise."

As far as reading on the DAwiki goes, I don't really feel that that gives the player an appreciation for the characters. For example, you may know that Maevaris Tilani, from the first run comics, is a transwoman, but to see how that is revealed, her personality, how she interacts with Varric, are part of the character that you miss out on if you don't read it.

But if you're totally not interested, that I can appreciate your not wanting to buy. I'm not a comic person, and the only reason I buy these is for Dragon Age alone.

Huh. For some reason I have long forgotten, I had a $2 credit at the Dark Horse digital store. First issue for $1.99, sweet!

I'm interested in seeing how non Templar mundanes take out mages. Hopefully it's through sneak attacks and such. Element of surprise, getting them while their sleeping and stuff like that. Seems like the easiest and safest way to go about it.

I read a Forgotten Realms book series many years ago also titled Magekiller I believe, and though it was enjoyable for the most part, I took issue with the ridiculous assumption that most if not all casters fought the same and with the same spells. This enables the fighter to predict moves and counter attack but it's very hard to believe that every caster will behave the same way or have the same spell list. However, this was necessary in order for the fighter to stand a chance in a straight up fight with a caster.

I hope this new book doesn't go that route.

 In a world of silly hats the Archon's definitely takes the cake. I like Tessa so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take this. Hopefully there will be some new lore thrown in.

I'd lol it the guy is Carver. While he might have a chance to be killed in DA2 ... death has never stopped a character from returning.

I liked it. I'm curious how Marius survived those demons, though.

Tessa's a fox. MRRROW

Does it seem like the last panel should have a "To be Continued" box?

Snippy main girl and a very solemn guy for protagonists. I thought the opening narration was too long. I would have preferred it it was cut back to get into the story.

The comic feels very Dragon Age though, better than that first comic series that was just called "Dragon Age" XD.

Well, I don't do comics, so I don't know if that's standard. But isn't that sort of implied by a serial anyway?

Yepper, I agree with both of these. I don't mind tropes generally, so I'm cool with their personality types. In general, I prefer something like this with completely new characters that have not been in the games, rather than the first run comics where all of the primary characters were from the games. Not only does that mess with player continuity (Alistair is king), but there is also a danger of getting tired of the same people.

I'm just dying to get into Minrathous. *fangirl squee*

I wish we could've seen more of Val Royeaux in Inquisition. Hopefully Minrathos will be more than one area :P

You mean Gaider's nuke on his cool characters? Yeah, the endings of the first and third arches really pissed me off, after Yavana and Lambert they really have to stop murdering cool characters on those ridiculous ways.

Thank you very much, kind lady, so I guess that buying Shadow of Intent rather than this was a good choice after all.

I like the concept of mage-killer because its non-mages finding their special ways to kill mages.

Like we'll have to (potentially) kill Solas.

Sneaky sneaky! I'm up for a relatively sneaky toned DA4! Trespasser sure gives that feeling.

The writer also has greatly demonised mages in the first comic, hopefully that will be changed later on though. There are SOME crazy people out there, but generalising EVERYONE to be a psychopath is just wrong.

I always wondered why "Magekillers" on Thedas didn't just cover themselves with anti-magic runes.  Sure - they would be rare individuals, but I could easily see all the nations of Thedas employing a "special forces" with such armor and weaponry designed specifically to take down mages (with a smattering of rogue Templars).

Also - you could lace your weaponry with small quantities of lyrium... dangerous for both parties to be sure, but moreso for the mage.

In fact - one of these Magekillers should have been Tranquil (any possibility the silent brooding male "could" be?  Haven't read it yet.)  A Tranquil trained and focused on removing mages would be absolutely devastating (because of their abilities to handle lyrium safely mostly).

And then, of course, we have Fenris... just make the runes anti-magic and you'd have someone presumably completely immune to magic.

Anyway - anything that kills DA mages interests me.
