Ok so... fighting demons at a rift is all well and good, but we all know that the Inquisitor is the only one able to close rifts and stop the demons from continually appearing. I certainly hope the Inquisitor doesn't appear; that would greatly annoy me. It's one thing to have NPC characters make appearances, even if they are out of the player's canon, like the first run of comics, but an entirely different matter to show the PC as a specific person, particularly when ALL ancillary materials to date have been purposefully vague about those details. If not, wtf is he going to do about the rift and the continuous demons? Is he farming them for exp, or what? (That was a joke.)

Just from the issue 3 preview, I can say that this style of narration is starting to bug me, along with the continuous rehashing of the previous events. It's like a "Last time on The Many Adventures of Tessa and Marius" episode recap. It's one thing for television when it only amounts to thirty or so seconds, or shows us bits of long-past plot lines that are being revisited in the current episode, but it is certainly not difficult to pull out a previous issue of a comic and sift through to find whatever bits you need to refresh yourself on.

And... lost interest with that.
I thought this was "Magekiller" not... "even moar demons!" Poor girl even says it: "We kill mages." Yeah... except for when you're doing something I've already done a million times and found rather droll each time I did it.
Probably still take a look at some point. *shrugs*

I'm excited about the next issue. It looks great! I'd say that's Crestwood up top and the Hinterlands in the panels beneath it. Seeing all that stuff in a comic book is so cool and I hope we see some important Inquisition characters in this chapter, too!
Can't wait....

Also the Marius/Calpernia feels so shoehorned and lame. Though that might be because I ship Calpernia/Reforming Tevinter. I feel like this ship has more substance in comparison to the former.

Yeah I haven't picked up either issue yet. I might, but probably when the full series is out so I don't have to wait for each issue. But I'm really not feeling that interested in it, like I did with the Silent Grove comics. Probably because at least those comics involved characters we already knew from the game rather than new characters, whom I assume will make an appearance in DA4 if not be party members.
I've read all of the comics and novels to date and enjoyed them well enough. I think I'm a bit burnt out, though, after Asunder and ME turned out to be required reading for portions of DAI.

I'm going to keep following this because I don't want to miss out on any fun stuff (more Tevinter or Calpernia, etc) but holy flip flops does it reek of tropes.

Eh, I get the feeling that it's one of those "we can't ever be together" type of relationships. I don't think your Calpernia/Reforming Tevinter OTP is in any danger.

You have to consider that the Breach occurs in Issue #2 and that pretty much makes everyone stop doing whatever they normally do. They will obviously decide that hunting mages just isn't as important as saving the world from being destroyed by demons. That's kind of why the Inquisitor gets involved, instead of just going back home. The world's future is at stake.
Also, leading up to when the Breach happens, Marius and Tessa aren't even mage-killing anymore. They're running and hiding from the Archon's assassins. This story would have needed to take place much earlier in their partnership for it to be truly about "mage-killing." Although, they may return to that again. I would think they might even get hired by the Inquisition to hunt down and kill Solas (very powerful mage, sorta, lol), but it looks like they both will be joining the Inquisition, thus Solas is aware of both of them before they even get a chance to find out he's Fen'Harel and is going to tear down the Veil.
Makes me wonder we will have only new companions and just people Solas truly has never met in DA4, meaning no one who was part of the Inquisition prior to Solas leaving it.

I wonder if this comic will reveal Calpernia's fate.
So long as they avoid saying, "I was personally defeated by the Inquisitor", they won't be extablishing that the Inquisition sided with the Templars in canon.

The Inquisitor is the only one who can close Rifts, but there are alternatives. The Bull's Chargers, for instance, were able to bury leftover Rifts and demons at Adamant by collapsing the fortress into rubble.
Whatever is in the wagon probably has something to do with Marius' plan.
Yeah, burying the Rifts in enough rubble seems to either prevent anything from coming through, or forces the demons to unwittingly try to materialise inside of solid rock, killing them instantly. Trespasser suggested that most of the Inquisitor's time between 9:42 and 9:44 was spent dealing with leftover rifts, so they probably dealt with the buried ones eventually.
I wonder if this comic will reveal Calpernia's fate.
So long as they avoid saying, "I was personally defeated by the Inquisitor", they won't be extablishing that the Inquisition sided with the Templars in canon.
I want Calpernia to have survived the events of Inquisition regardless of whatever path was taken, she's far too interesting of a character to just kill off. It's a shame we never got to deal with Samson in the Templar path or Calpernia in the Mage path, since they seem to still exist, they just weren't picked as Corypheus' lieutenant because we stole the army their faction was trying to get for him.

I, too, wonder how vague the comic will be in the major choices in Inquisition, especially since the comic will continue after the events on Inquisition.

I heard that Samson dies in the Templar path but Calpernia's fate is purposely left ambiguous

Samson is taken prisoner at the Temple of Mythal and his fate is laid in the hands of the Inquisitior. While I do not remember whether there is an execution option, I do know there are several options that lets him live.

It you don't do the mission about Samson's armour, your only option is to kill him at the Temple of Mythal.
I'm not so sure about that since I do not believe I did the quest during my first round and I was able to sentence Samson at Skyhold. I didn't do the quest because I was unaware that it'd be unavaliable after the mission.

Review from someone who got the issue early.
According to the author, 3 will focus on Marius and Tessa fighting demons with an Inquisition cameo at the end.
Who could it be?

My guess is Harding. She travels ahead to scout out every area and I believe they said awhile ago that they were going to be consistent with every possible Inquisition playthrough. Harding would fit without stepping on any toes.

My money is on Leliana. She's on the cover of Magekiller No. 4, Tessa is at Caer Bronach, etc.
Alternatively, it might be Charter.

Not exactly the Anti Mage book all the Mage haters were expecting I take it
More like, it's not the anti-mage book that the pro-mage people were expecting. They heard the title and assumed "Magekiller" meant "person who enjoys killing mages," when in fact it's more like "specialized assassin."

I don't believe there's an execution option for Samson, iirc.
Techinically there is. The "Send him to Kirkwall" option heavily implies your sending him to his execution in order to get better relations with Kirkwall.
