I think they should keep the description made in Mass Effect: Revelations. It wasn't the one in the OP's picture. Except for the legs they're supposed to be the most human appearing of all. But I don't expect we'd see them outside of their suits anyway so what does it really matter, unless we come up with some kind of gene alteration that repairs their immune system - not that we won't have that kind of technology in about 10 years anyway.
Will Quarians get an appearance update?

True, but fur makes pollen clinging to the creature easier. Velcro was invented by a man who saw his dog get seed pods tangled in its fur.
Bees were just the first thing that came to mind when it came to fuzzy pollinators. I'll use mammals. We have bats, marsupials, lemurs, bears, rabbits, dear, rodents, and monkeys.
I still think Asari are more space elves than Quarians, since like I said they have longevity, are the most advanced people in the galaxy, and have a deeper connection to the magic of the world than any other race. Quarians live about as long as us, never were the most advanced, and biotics are rare among them.
Fur is actually not that good for pollination because it is too thick and long and stuff gets stuck and tangled, like my dinner did just now. I mean it can be useful when all else fails but that is not why furry animals have successfully adapted and evolved into us. Bees and other bugs are pollinating experts, they are the main pollinators we cannot do without, because they are bristly and the pollen goes on and comes off easy. They are the evolutionary epitome of pollinators. If a humanoid evolved from bees or bugs it wouldn't look like us. That said I doubt the quarians evolved from very furry animals in a hot, arid, desert at all. You have to consider that as well. Look how they designed drell.
I am not a fan of the humans are special trope, but it is interesting how the more human the aliens look the more popular and loved and special they are. Just ask Javik why protheans go for the most human looking women. Humans are special. ![]()

Yeah. The only noticeable difference between a Human's head and a Quarian's head is stated to be the ears. And that was from a book that came out before Mass Effect 2, so before they even fully decided to make Tali a romance.
I agree to an extent.
That book passage was often cited as evidence that the Quarians look just like humans by fans who wanted Tali's reveal to resemble this fanart, but the passage was actually vague in it's description. It just said that they had two eyes with eyelids, a nose, a mouth, and a more or less humanoid facial bone structure...all of which could have also been used to describe the Drell or the Asari, species that while very humanoid, would never be mistaken for human.
The passage was most likely left deliberately vague because the devs had not yet settled on a canon appearance for the Quarians. Behind the scenes there were still several different concepts by Matt Rhodes.
I think the placeholder beneath Tali's helmet, the art concepts and the description in the book point to Bioware always intending that the Quarians would be humanoid, but I think it would be incorrect to say they always planned on the Quarians being as human in appearance as that fanart or her eventual reveal.

I hope they ditch the helmet, except in combat. When the helmets are off, I wonder how many aliens will comment on how much we look alike.
Edit: The new helmets in the concept art look quarian-ish.

And this fanart makes me think we got some helpful tips from quarians in redesigning our own armor.

This is my new big mystery. Do Quarians have all those black lines around them? That's pretty cool and feels tech-y.
Also it's so weird imagining That girl being Tali under the mask. Replayed the trilogy thinking of that and it's strange. It'd be weird with any face though.

You could see that Tali had a human like face in ME 1 and ME 2 under the helmet. You could not see the lines in the helmet until ME 3. So if anything they deviated further from the original statement that Quarians were very human like as far as their face (except ears) and people still complained they were too human looking. Oh and I also liked the lines to and thought they fit the tech theme..
If Bioware made a mistake with anything as far as Tali in ME 3, it was the idea of showing a large photograph on the screen in the first place. A photograph with just game assets would have looked weird when zoomed up on.
They were in a catch 22 though. If they showed her face on Rannoch, and did so with just game assets (so it didn't have to look like a photograph) where it should have been shown, then people who romanced Tali feel like they were not special. They could have only had her take off her mask if she romanced Shep, but then that takes from what was a really great scene on Rannoch.
I thought Tali was by far the most interesting romance (was intertwined in the whole story arc, and you defend her at the enclave) and very well done, and I loved the character, but some of the Tali fanboys (see Tali sweat thread) were so crazy, there was no way to win. If anything the fact people were so mad about it, is a testament to how incredible the character was and how wonderful a job Patrick Weekes did with her. If I couldn't have romanced Tali I would have liked the character just as much. She was a true paragon, loyal to a fault and it was the only romance I shed a tear on, during the beam scene where she said.
Tali "I can't stay behind, don't leave me behind".
Shep. "Get back to Rannoch. Build yourself a home."
Tali "I have a home".
That was Tali in a nutshell, and I think she would have said the same without being romanced. Shepard and the Normandy became her immediate family in a sense. Her people let her down, her own father let her down. We saw her grow as a character (and not 180 changes like Liara which was kind of silly). The game series and Tali grew up at the same time, from adolescent (and I am glad she was not a romance option in the first game) to a leader of her people.
A dumb photograph that stayed true to established lore, where Bioware was in a no win situation? Does not ruin that character for me.

Can almost feel your passion here.
This game right?
That scene on the beam run was easily the best of them all. I felt it big time, very well done by everyone concerned.

They also had no hair. And why would they? They are not mammals BIOWARE
I'm not quite sure why aliens should fit into the classifications as we understand them, but since quarians breast-feed their young, they would seem to be mammals.

True, but aliens don't always defy the laws of physics and logic. Being in those suits and having long strands of hair would be a disadvantage. Take for example the platypus, they lay eggs but they are mammals. who know's if an animal can breastfeed and not be a mammal?

The word Mammal comes from the latin mamma which literally means breast, so...

I too want to know ... they would have to open their suits to give access several times a day.. wouldn't that just put them at risk?
