MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

If I were to summarize my hopes for Mass Effect: Andromeda in a word, it would be “Spectacle.” Frostbite is a beautiful engine, and it should be able to do beautiful things in the next game.

I would never presume to suggest that the visual elements of a game are as important as the combat or the story, but I do believe they’re a crucial consideration. I keep thinking about the waves on the Storm Coast in DA:I and how realistically they moved. I can imagine a similar design applied to something like a distant shifting nebula through a view screen.

I made a similar thread once before that primarily focused on aspects of character customization, like hair and armor. My intent is that this one covers the topic of aesthetics in a broader sense, including armor, clothing, the appearance of our ship, alien landscapes, and combat.

The most significant things I’d like to see in Andromeda’s design are:

Sleek and customizable armor options, with a wide range of color options and a choice between a matte or glossy metallic finish.

Several more, and ideally more life-like, hair options than Bioware has done in any game before. It would be nice if we could have a few options that are exclusive to the protagonist.

And speaking of exclusive to the protagonist, color customization of things like omni-tools and combat drones would be fun.

Customizing the ship itself is an intriguing idea, but it would probably be wiser for those customizations to be superficial aspects like color and lighting.

Reave is seriously the coolest looking biotic attack there is. It should always be a combat option.

Definitely scars, and possibly tattoos.

A color wheel for non-combat apparel.

Lastly, space can provide some of the most gorgeous views imaginable. If we had a view screen that could occasionally catch a glimpse of those, a changeful celestial landscape, it could contribute to the sense of immersion and wonder.

Please share any particular hopes you have for the look of Andromeda, however broad or minor. Thank you!

As far as the game's aesthetics go, that would be my biggest hope.

Space is beautiful, so I hope the devs provide some opportunities to experience that vicariously through the game's space explorer. They were sort of limited on what they could do with the old engine and old hardware, but those should no longer be issues with the Next Gen consoles and Frostbite. Even DA:I, which was still tethered to old hardware, looked great outside of the hair options in the CC.

On that note it would be cool if the ship's windows had a stunning planetary view, similar to this:

It might not be possible for every uncharted world the ship will visit, but would be cool at least. if they could pull it off for main story worlds

Every time I play Mission: Palaven, I take a minute or so just staring at the planet in the sky.

Don't apologize, those are great. I particularly love the idea of being able to choose between whether you want the protagonist to be more of a heavyweight or more focused on speed and dexterity. The enemy assassin types always seem to be the fastest and the most graceful. What I wouldn't for my protagonist to demonstrate the same finesse.

Thinking of that I feel like they should add another class and I'm afraid they won't because they will be stuck with old scheme.

I think I'd personally prefer subclasses more than new ones. I like the symmetry of the trilogy six, but I remember those additional options Shepard could acquire on the lunar mission in ME1 and I could see something like that working well.

The Infiltrator class, for example. In the Arkham series, Batman and Catwoman are both infiltrator types, but Batman is more of a heavy hitter when he gets into combat, while Catwoman is all speed and acrobatics.

That might be a little much to hope for, but I think something slightly reminiscent would be perfect.

When it comes to aesthetics in ME one part really stood out to me, and it's at the beginning of the Geth Dreadnought mission in the third game. Seeing the battle outside and the view of Rannoch and space in general was one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite missions.

Frostbite is a very powerful engine.

With a little bit of modding, you can get this

Good graphics and design can really help build atmosphere.

yeah locations and the space scenes have always looked stunning even on the old Unreal engine so I don't think that 'll likely change if anything I hope it'll look even better especially after seeing what Battlefront can do. I've not got Battlefront as I'm not really into MMO's to be honest I prefer a good single player game as I prefer battling AI . Had battlefront had a single player story and campaign I might have considered it. But as it is without that I don't find it worth it.

Kai Leng's armor was pretty sexy, won it for my Sheploo and he looked stunning in it. A real showstopper! The alternate appearance heavy armor you can put Kaidan and Vega in was pretty damn sexy too, at least to me ... I like heavy armor ....

I hope they don't get too edgy and kewl. ME1 wasn't. In ME1 we had companions that looked average (the humans did anyway). In ME2 things got odd, with XXXTREME!!! Jack and super dandy open-chested coat assassin Thane, etc. And ME3's Kai Leng reached parody levels of edginess.

Sorry for mentioning Inquisition on this forum, but the hair in that game also suffered from edgy overdose. You've got the trendy manbun and undercut styles for guys, plus the 2cool4school half-shaven-half-long style, but not something like Alistair's or Duncan's hair. Normal bloke hair.

As a science nerd, I think the characters in this game should take inspiration from astronauts, engineers, and navy personnel more than from models from an alternative fashion magazine and anime.

I agree with wanting normal man hair, although I don't want other options to be taken out (I do not know if you meant this). Another thing that I would like aesthetically--and this is pretty minor--has to do with the portrayal of the protagonist on the cover art. I very much disliked the "I am a bad boy staring at you with my head down looking all determined and like a somewhat emotionally troubled adolescent boy" look of ME3. That pose seems to be the current fad for numerous entertainment franchises. One of the Superman movies had virtually this exact pose. I think it looks silly. The Shepard on the ME1 and ME2 covers were more to my liking. Of course, this is all very subjective, and in the case of cover art, not particularly important.

Normal and understated hair options should always be available, but that doesn't preclude the possibility of more eccentric choices as well. It might be the only thing I think Bioware could stand to learn from Bethesda, because at least Fallout 4 has a wide variety.

Finding girl in heavier armor is impossible if you're looking in sci-fi. It's mix of bondage with few armor plating on arms. If you want to be desirable it's great but with this much of coverage you will be only desirable for necrophils because you will be dead! Perhaps I'm just picky and future is bdsm. :|

I'm most interested in aesthetics in terms of how they can change over the game. Rather than having a whole heap of options I think I'd prefer different options at different stages and the change over time tells a story. Your armor could go from standard issue explorer gear to being bulked up, having extra equipment patched in, deformed by field repairs and slowly gaining personal touches like mottos, flowers, helmet art etc. Similarly I'd like to see attention given to temporary changes like dirt and blood and sweat building up on characters while on mission or going away clean and coming back frazzled.

Asking for too much I know.

I would never presume to suggest that the visual elements of a game are as important as the combat or the story,
