I don't know about this metaphor of yours. The person setting a bad example in this scenario isn't the kid trying to be sociable and make friends, it's the little jerks mocking him behind his back.
.

Them being jerks doesn't make him cool. Any more than spending beyond your means to fit in with rich people makes you rich. Trying to do cool things just because you think it will be cool usually ends up as the exact opposite.

Well, I disagree on two fundamentals. For one, I think MShep's armor was equally sculpted. I think there's just more to notice with Femshep by virtue of breasts arguably being more noticeable.

Do you honestly not see a difference between, say this:
858px-Museo_archeologico_regionale_paolo

and this... ?
ME3_serrice_council_chest.png

... because the top image is more along the lines of the fit for female Shepard.

Also I don't think she would quite have to get a mold of her breasts, she would just need measurements and precise cup size so that the armor could be tailored for her--and I can think of a few very practical reasons to do so (Namely, comfort and better mobility).

Y96QoWb.jpg

Do you not see the effects of gravity here? That armor presents a breast sculpture, with every arc and curve rendered in loving detail. It would look no different if she used spray paint on them. Since breasts actually come in not only different sizes, but also different shapes, densities (amounts of sag), positions on the chest, etc., there's no way you could get it to fit like that with only measurements and cup size.

And, btw - I feel that comfort and mobility would be better served with a comfy, supportive bra and some room for movement - not some rigid material encasing them individually.

I don't necessarily disagree that part of the reason is to make the appearance aesthetically pleasing, but that's just it. I don't oppose a design predicated on whether it's aesthetically pleasing.

You do, I assume, agree that that people have different tastes wrt what is aesthetically pleasing.

At the risk of sounding trite, the female form is very pretty, so utilizing does a lot of the work for a costume. I don't think we can fairly accuse every example of accentuating a female figure of being sexualization, because I think sexualization takes more than that. Sexualization/objectification in fiction involves diminishing a character, breaking them down into sexual parts. There are times when I saw that occur in the trilogy, but never with Shepard.

Objectification is reducing a character (or person) to an object used for sex.

As defined in the wikipedia, "Sexualization (or sexualisation) is to make something sexual in character or quality, or to become aware of sexuality, especially in relation to men and women." Alternatively, wisegeek says "Sexualization is the process by which a person, group of people, or object comes to be seen or interpreted as sexual in nature."

An armor like the following is form-fitting and accentuates the female form without presenting a detailed sculpture of the breasts:

So I have no idea where this is from, but I'm just posting it because we're in desperate need of some non-codpiece themed images right now.

I think it would feel awful to place one's breasts individually into some rigid material designed to encase them - not to mention really restrict one's mobility. Breast tissue is naturally very soft and pliable, and they move around a lot, changing shape and whatnot as the bearer moves around.

I've often wondered that, too. It would be excruciating and at least partially debilitating.

It's one of the reasons why I really dislike ultra-tight boob cups.

This, otoh, has boob cups with some room to move around:

Maybe light armour could be similar to Ghost Recon Future Soldier's setup.

Spoiler

The exoskeleton is visible, but hard protection is only over the vital organs.

I wouldn't mind that, light armor that is and looks light but not too heavy or bulky.

I always liked light armor that feels like it's actually light and comfortable, instead of just being less bulky

It's Black Rock Shooter's gritty western FPS brothers.

Not sure about you but no, i'm not ^_^ it's just something to use as a reference and that's it, really. Don't you make references about things that have nothing to do with gaming or ME all the time? ^_^ Something related to anime and whatnot

Why do people always think armor is the same on the inside as it is on the outside? Just because a set of armor has decorative muscles, or breasts on it, doesn't mean that the inside wouldn't be fitted and somewhat comfortable to wear. In the boob cup example, it's laughable that people think that there would actually be hollowed out cups on the inside that one would have to carefully place their breasts into. That's ridiculous, armor doesn't work like that.

BUT if they are not hollow for breasts they are 100% unnecessary and positively stupid. Just adding them for no reason at all is even worse than putting boobs in

I take it the fundamental idea in this thread is that some notion of "what's proper" shouldn't stop people from having or wanting things that people just like instinctively. This is pretty conservative, and also somewhat generic, notion, but also fundamentally a good idea.

It's decoration. There's no point in many things being included on armor if that's the case, I doubt anyone will be asking BioWare to take out the option for us to dye our armor bright pink though.

because dying armor and slapping on a pair of tatas  is clearly the same ... why not add the "decoration" to the male armor too?
