For casual clothes I'd be just as happy with the jeans and leather jacket male Shep could get.

Said it before but I'll be happy if we have the same level of customisation as saints row 3/4.

I definitely see a difference there, but I would also see a difference between a female equivalent of the former--with it's rendering of nipples, abdominal muscles, and collarbone--and Femshep's armor, which shapes around the breast, but does not emphasize any other details of her torso.

My reason for bringing that into the conversation has to do with people claiming that male Shep's armor was just as sculptured as female Shep's. I may have missed something, but I didn't see any lovingly rendered pectoral muscles on any of male Shep's gear.

I've been assuming that there is some softer padding beneath all the ME armor, both male and female. If it is supposed to be just non-pliable metal encasing, I agree. That would be stupid.

Well - given that the armor in question showed the effects of gravity and every last arc and curve fully detailed, it certainly looks to me like it was metal encasing. If there were some soft padding underneath, you'd lose some of the detail in the exterior appearance.

I know the definition, and I stand by what I said. I believe the goal with Femshep's armor was to make it visually pleasing, but I also suggest that there's a line between that and intentionally focusing on her physique in a sexual sense. I saw that kind of focus with Benezia and Miranda a couple of times, and I did see it once with FemShep (during Kasumi's loyalty mission) but she was out of armor at the time.

Well - I think that line was crossed in the particular armor we've been talking about. There just wasn't any need to make it that detailed, to make it look like an accurate breast sculpture. The other examples you mention include specific camera angles intended to focus attention on the sexualized bits.

Based on some of the concept art I've seen, I think we're going to end up with something much more your taste than mine in this game. I'm reasonably confident it'll be the most unisex yet.

I expect we'll have both - some boob cup, some not, as in the past.

Of course, the pose of the female protag on the poster causes me some concern. I'm afraid they'll use hyper-genderized walk animations, ala DA - in which case, I might not be going to Andromeda.

How about a trenchcoat over armor like Feron?

Spoiler

It's not super practical but eh...I like the look of it.

That's a great example of what I would call form-fitting in a good way. Far from a potato sack, the outfit is cut and tailored to show her (albeit modest) curves, but is also loose enough to look very comfortable to wear.

I also like the fact that the model has some width in her upper back thus creating rather an hourglass shape, unlike a lot of other female body models we see.

Ah, the Inquisitor's swagger, to bad she had the posture of a gorilla. You would really skip out on a game over a running/walking animation?

In a 3rd person game, when I'm watching the character walk / run for hours on end? Yep, when it's that extreme and off-putting.

I don't think you can read too much from that artwork. I assume the pose was chosen by the artist alone and vetting the images released according to the poses of the characters requires a very particular kind of perfectionist.

Maybe? I guess we'll see. The female pose was... really odd.

If we're talking about civilian clothes, then check out George Carlin's awesome outfit from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey:

But yes, civilian outfits were definitely one of the weak points of ME's overall aesthetic. One thing it needs is a bit more variety; everybody seems to have pretty similar looking outfits, like those weird dresses with the three holes in the center or whatever.

I can only dismiss cover art, because I know the people who design that and the people who design the meaty, fascinating character in the game (knock on wood) likely only know each other from nods in the hall, if that. The marketing people thankfully have almost nothing to do with the actual game and often seem not to have ever played one.

(I say almost because of a certain Jersey Shore-like reporter.)

No, I haven't - and that walk / run animation is the primary reason. I've looked at mods, but have not found one for that thus far. It is my understanding that some PC players swapped out the Hawke strut on DA2. Maybe I'll try loading up DA2 again to see if the walk still bothers me as much as it did back when it was released.

As for ME, I thought the walk / run animations in ME1 were the best of the lot. They added a lot of upper body and other lateral movement after that, which was... weird.

I'd be perfectly content if they just restored the animations they used for the first ME game.

ME was weird for me, as Shep had a confident, hips-forward stance but then she walked hunched over like a gorilla. Don't get me started about leaning into corners like she was racing motocross... :D

I would, and in fact have. I still haven't purchased or played DAI.

Not to be melodramatic about it, but it was very difficult for me. DAO is, to this day, my favorite game - and I've loved the world of Thedas and the time I've spent there.

But after suffering through the Hawke strut in DA2, I just didn't figure it would be in my best interests to try that again. I found it off-putting to the point where it really wrecked any enjoyment I may have gotten from playing the game.

But they probably will complain.

I've stated my feelings about it a few times. I've never opened a single thread on the DA (or any other) forums to complain about it, though.

A walk animation ruins a game for you?

Eh, I guess I can't judge overtly, I've ignored games because of content before.

Well, considering that Bioware is using motion capture for animations this time, I don't think those who are worrying need to.

I believe they used mo-cap for the walk / run animations and Shepard's dancing in ME2&3, too.

Whether people like it - or not - depends to some degree on whose movements they mo-cap.
