Well, how? Isn't a ritual within their culture that you have to go through in order to be considered an adult?

Your clan can still consider you a child, and your Keeper sees this mission as a way to show you how the world is so you can appreciate how the Dalish are or something. It just made roleplaying anything other than a Pro-Dalish Dalish ridiculous, and that shouldn't happen for a character-driven RPG.

I didn't find it ridiculous at all, actually. My elf was just a standard elf until he went to the conclave and seeing the world made him question his dalish beliefs. He considers his vallaslin a silly mistake of adolescence.

My other Dalish elf was very Dalish, and did consider her vallaslin a point of pride, but I could have played her differently to just ignore them as a cultural ritual that she went through that had no major significance to her, just something that everyone did.

I'd rather my Dalish ignore their Vallaslin than ever be considered a child, but that's my personal belief because I like the tattoos.

Hmm. That makes me think of Cillian in the MP. He was the first of a Dalish clan, but he ended up taking off to learn how to become and Arcane Warrior. A person could go through the early rituals of their society without being very enthusiastic about them, or they could grow out of their teenage mindset.

Anyway, I actually felt similliarly about only being able to play a Dalish. I so hope City Elf is an option again in the next game.

So until they got there, they were Pro-Dalish. What if I want to play a character that is already questioning if not straight up against them and has always felt that way?

^ For Vanguards and Soldiers especially, that could be perfect.

Yep. It would work for all classes as well since some armors are lighter than others.

Peer pressure of the clan? Trying to stay inconspicuous? Questioning beliefs but thinking tattoos look cool and edgy? Questioning but not wanting to be treated like a child?

I can think of a myriad of reasons and those four are just the top off my head.

There was no point. People still reacted to them no matter what you did.

It was a terrible choice and I hope they never do it again. There were ways you could have been at the Conclave without having to be a Pro-Dalish Dalish with a "Property of *insert Evanuris here*" stamped on your face.

I don't quite agree. Even if Bioware is RPG and you can roleplay your character there has been always  things that aren't open about your backstory and I don't see reason why these can't impact your looks a bit as well.

It could always simply being growing through the motions of what's expected.  I'm not wildly enthusiastic about religious faith, but I still got confirmed in my church in High School.  Why?  Because it was expected of me and it mattered to my parents.

So I can't see vallaslin as a sign of pro-dalish zealotry.

So I really actually like this (yes I know, Star Wars, but still).

rey_star_wars_by_elias_chatzoudis-d9lpgi

It's feminine, without being girly. It's functional and pragmatic while still being pretty and has a touch of whimsy. And it would look good in a variety of fabrics too.

There's just this one thing that drives me insane with that outfit...

Why the HELL would someone bother wrapping their arms up in bandages every day for no reason!!! You see, we already have this great invention that covers up the arms AND comes already attached to clothes.. it's called SLEEVES!!!

It really drives me crazy. Sleeves Rey.. just sew them on!!!

She wasn't exactly blessed with a lot of resources (even small ones), from what I could tell. I suppose she might have found a way to make a needle and thread, but my suspicion is that's easier said than done.

Eh, someone just thought the bandaged arms looked cool.

It just annoys me sometimes when you think about a character's outfit and realise something about it makes absolutely no sense. Especially when the character is supposed to be a practical kind of person.

Can you explain jajaja to me. My cousins wife types it all the time in Facebook and I don't get it. Not sure if it's a age or culture difference.

Wrapping arms and/or legs (or the chest) is to provide support. Aesthetically it's to give an eastern sort of look when jedi have always been inspired both in philosophy and attire to vaguely eastern martial arts disciplines.

You mean how to make a sweater? I'm no expert but there are different techniques. I prefer to use 1 or 2 needles and another needle to hold things while i do this, instead of those sticks that make you look a cheerleader (but that's just me). You need the right size of needle/s, 8 and 10 SHOULD be good enough. You measure the back, then start weaving. I suggest patterns of two points with the smaller needle for the first arrow and then you do the inverse for the second arrow until you have a total of 6. Then you transfer them to bigger needle and repeat the process until you have around 20 cm of woven fabric (it's not restraining jacket! make it a little loose). For the arms you just need to unweave (it's that even the right verb -_-) 4 points of the next 2 arrows and then you keep weaving like there's no tomorrow.....

And by this time i notice that what you meant was the "jajaja" not how to weave a sweater............i need a drink ^_^

JAJAJA = HAHAHA in spanish. I don't do it on purpose. It comes naturally when i'm really laughing. Otherwise i just go "lol".

Bandage-like leg wrappings were actually used with military gear during both world wars. They were called puttees and were designed to keep sand or snow and such from getting in your boots. Mountain climbers and hikers also used to wear them.

It's funny, the only thing that bothered me about her outfit was that I thought she wasn't covered up enough to protect her skin in the dessert.

Even if it is unintentional you should stick to typing it that way. Text is kind of dry, but it gives your posts some personality.

Besides part of the fun of coming here is that you're discussing your favorite games with people in some other corner of the globe.
