OT, I've got a GTX 770, and my desire to play RotTR is like, just a constant, background hum that I can't shut off, at the moment (TR2013 might have been my favorite game that year). But I'm thinking I might want to wait to upgrade to a pascal once they hit. How's the game looking on my card, for anyone who's got it (or something similar)?

I'm still waiting for a game to REALLY knock me on my ass visually. TW3 has come closer than most, but that's largely just due to the lovely design and the scope of the world (which isn't to say it's not a very beautiful game) - although I'll grant that I don't have every last bell and whistle turned up. Which is why I'm tempted to wait for a new card to play some of these showstoppers.

I'm currently running on a gtx 770 on 1680 X 1050, and you can see how it looks from the (compressed ) screen shots.
I can post what I've got on option wise when I get home later.

It's really well optimised for nvidia cards.

Huh. Yeah, that looks friggin' lovely from here.

Yeah, if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see what you're running, but those shots put my mind at ease. Might pull the trigger sooner rather than later, even though I'm drowning in stuff I need to play.

Too many games.

What are your preferences for the interior of the ship?

I'm probably in the minority, but I preferred the darker, grittier, and more-lived in atmosphere of the ME3 Normandy to the more brightly lit and sterile version of the ship in Mass Effect 2.

That's really hard to say. I liked the look of the ME3 Normandy better than the ME2 one, as well, but that isn't to say I'm averse to a brightly colored interior.

My ideal would really be that we can decide the brightness and color(s) of certain areas according to our whims. I might like to make the whole place look like the inside of the FO4 Institute--pristine, radiant white--in one playthrough, and then something darker and grittier in the next.

That might be completely infeasible, though. I think my most significant hope for the ship is that it just look a little more "alien" than the Normandy did. The original Normandy was a cooperative effort between Turians and Humans, I'm thinking that this one probably had Asari involvement as well.

...It has occurred to me that when I've been picturing the ark ship, I've been picturing something of a much more massive scope than might be strictly plausible. More like a space station than a ship.

See this is why I like Zeon, their warships look nothing like Federation ships from the interior to exterior, for example the Gwadan AXIS flagship was designed to be a mobile palace, so from its anteroom room, to its throne room (yes it has a throne room) its designed to give off airs of regal affluence, even while the ships massive size and firepower depict it as a weapon of war, it is in truth was designed to be a castle that moved, the comforts of a manor wrapped in the protection of a warship.

Its displacement has been described at around a standard 18,000 metric tons. its total size is exactly six hundred meters long, armed with two main gun mega particle cannons and a additional ten secondary guns, it can carry dozens of mobile suits, it is a moving fortress but beneath the blood red paint, beneath the armor plating and legions of soldiers stationed aboard its purpose is the homestead of the childhood princess-Mineva Zabi, the regent, her staff and the commanders of their military.

Its inverted for the Federation, their warships are designed to be mass production weapons of war, even flagships are not unique, they all come off the same assembly line, they all are made to fit a criteria established for their class. None are designed to be even vaguely stylish, little lone designed to be mobile transportation for a Zabi.

Correction, I'm running it on a 2gig 760 GTX (i.e a slightly nerfed 770), with it running off an SSD and with 16GB system memory:

I am definitely contemplating getting a 970 though as the 760 is the only relatively weak link in the system.

I'd like something more cramped and submarine like, I guess. Every bit of space feeling like it has a purpose, if not two or three.

But generally well lit, probably, I don't see why not. Unless we're in full stealth mode and trying to keep power usage down in order to not get cooked, perhaps.

Nice, thanks - sounds like we've got similar rigs. The 770 is the weakest link in my system, too. I was seriously considering a 970 or even a 980ti around the holidays, but I decided it might be smarter to just wait out the next release of nvidia cards in this case, which look to be a rather impressive step up.

I'm gonna get the game tonight at any rate!

Yeah it's a tough one. I've just had my first encounter with multiple enemies at night with loads of light sources etc and it definitely hit the framerate, especially a cutscene with 5 people running and firing simultaneously. Exploring on her own is fine though, like this - just look at the reflection mapping and light sourcing on the ice crystals:

464h5ru.jpg

I am thinking that an upgrade to a 970 is probably worth it - the new cards are some way off and will be at an unknown price point, and at my current resolution a 970 will be good for years - no point getting a bigger monitor as I don't have the space, and it's a tempting target for this recently mobile thing:

McmD6zv.jpg

Plus the other half can't see a gfx card, but she can definitely see a new monitor :D

Running a GTX 970 in my laptop. (Razer)

Don't have TW3, but DAI runs great at 3K resolution. (3200x1800)

FPS at 60.

I always disliked the walking (running) distance between the CIC and Joker's station. Most of the operations stations surrounding the CIC were empty, and could have housed most of the stations in the long narrow passageway leading to Joker.

I vote for a somewhat more compact CIC/bridge layout, and save a few seconds running around deck 2. A submarine layout is too cramped, but I support the point.  Hopefully it will get the Goldie-locks ('just right') treatment. A Star Trek bridge layout? Nah.

I would like to see the protagonist 'select' several terminals to view, resulting in a zoom-in to the screen. One screen could allow the protagonist to view cameras looking fore/aft - maybe? A great opportunity to see amazing visuals on approach to planets. Could terminal stations have potential in-game uses/value for more than getting a codex entry?

I wouldn't mind seeing that, maybe have a few more conversations or events happen on the CIC/bridge.

What are your preferences for the interior of the ship?

I'd like something that doesn't waste space, and ideally gives me a sense of what all the crew stations are.

The exterior should have a Flying Tigers shark's mouth decal, for reasons.

Given the Citadel can move I'm not sure there's an upper limit on how big the Ark could be.

The ark may turn out to be as a large as a space station. There was this official concept art awhile back:

If that isn't the interior of the ark, the colonists apparently find something that vaguely resembles the Presidium.

That would be awesome. I now want this wish to come true.

Any kind of nose art would add some character to the ship, but its hard to trump the  shark mouth.

It would probably be considered unfortunate and problematic.

I'd go with crass. But crassness has been a characteristic of many endearing characters (Zaeed was, and I love him forever), so why not?

Right, that's how I got the idea into my head.

That's what I hope for. That the Arc, whatever it is, is basically a space station serving as a massive many leveled city.

I imagine a level for the military brass, then the troops down below. I want to think there would be a level for some of the wealthy elites who helped fund the project and thus got themselves a seat (wherein we might find Lorik Qui'in, is my wishful thinking). Different levels for civilians from different species, creating social tension between different parts of the ship.

Then, maybe in the deeper, more central levels (where there are no view screens) things get less affluent and more gritty, to the point that there are sections that become dangerous to walk through. That would mean we'd effectively combine the qualities of the Citadel and Omega into one local.

A bit over-grand when it comes to scope, maybe. Mostly I just hope it's not a homogenous design.

Along with things like these, I'm hoping for more organic locales such as dense Jungles and/or forests.
