No kidding.

I find it unacceptable to have just one or two bearable hairstyles in a game. Especially games where, a lot of the time, you're looking at your character in cutscenes.

When I go into a CC, I want to be torn on which hairstyle to choose because most are great. Not going into it wanting to pick something else for a change and then ending up with exactly the same hairstyle as always because the others just suck too much.

And that, is my professional opinion as a hairdresser.

Shoot, i pick hairstyles based on what i want people to see me with irl. Having 5 differents shades of balding is not a good look.

True, a lot of other games offer more variety in hairstyles. That's probably the one improvement I want to see Bioware make in regards to the CC for ME:A.

Same. So far i'll gladly accept fewer hairstyles if it means the few remaining are better detailed, and designed.

No, neither are the 52 buzzcuts that currently hog hairstyle spots in my DAI CC. :P

But, I'd rather we get -both-. They finally learned to make nice-looking hairstyles with good variety in TS4 not withstanding the fact that everything outside of CAS is pretty sh*t. Why can't EA realocate some of those guys. Or maybe look for similar-minded guys to work on Bioware games.

*sigh* Perhaps I'm just grasping at straws here. It might not even be that easy but I would think that a company like EAware should be able to make decent hair. Oh and the brows. I sometimes think that when they design them, the designers are laughing their asses off at us. "Hur, hur, hur! Let's put in these 7 caveman-looking brows. They'll look like idiots!"

I am actually a bit surprised that they haven't even tried to placate us with cosmetic DLC. You know people will buy that.

How about something simpler. Just armor with some fancy stuff. Closer to ME1. Places for grenades, radios etc

Brotherhood. Unity. Peace

I've found my what my ideal planet to explore would look like.

Now all it needs are lost alien ruins, with eerie hieroglyphs and murals.

Sounds like you'd be OK with omni-swords. :D

Actually, I would. But don't tell the realism sticklers.

I'd still like less "barren landscape with a big skybox", we need more planets that feel like there's actually something to discover there and look for.

Ruins. Ancient alien ruins falling into disrepair and descending underground like a Dwarven fortress in Skyrim, with plenty of bioluminescent plants and monsters.

Alien ruins on planets would be great.

Also I'm pretty partial to exploring derelict starships, and finding something creepy, case in point:

Ruins would be great. I remember finding the pyramids in ME1 hoping that it would lead to something bigger and more important. It didn't (,unless I missed some. Which is possible).

Thought I'd resurrect this thread with a random bit of concept art I found on Google:

ME1 had no less than three locations that were Prothean ruins (Therum, Feros and Ilos). None of these locations were unified by a particularly distinct art style, so it was hard to get a clear sense of what Prothean architecture was like. Here's hoping for more interesting ruins in ME:A.

If I were to summarize my hopes for Mass Effect: Andromeda in a word, it would be “Spectacle.” Frostbite is a beautiful engine, and it should be able to do beautiful things in the next game.

I would never presume to suggest that the visual elements of a game are as important as the combat or the story, but I do believe they’re a crucial consideration. I keep thinking about the waves on the Storm Coast in DA:I and how realistically they moved. I can imagine a similar design applied to something like a distant shifting nebula through a view screen.

I made a similar thread once before that primarily focused on aspects of character customization, like hair and armor. My intent is that this one covers the topic of aesthetics in a broader sense, including armor, clothing, the appearance of our ship, alien landscapes, and combat.

The most significant things I’d like to see in Andromeda’s design are:

Sleek and customizable armor options, with a wide range of color options and a choice between a matte or glossy metallic finish.

Several more, and ideally more life like, hair options than Bioware has done in any game before. It would be nice if we could have a few options that are exclusive to the protagonist.

And speaking of exclusive to the protagonist, color customization of things like omni-tools and combat drones would be fun.

Customizing the ship itself is an intriguing idea, but it would probably be wiser for those customizations to be superficial aspects like color and lighting.

Reave is seriously the coolest looking biotic attack there is. It should always be a combat option.

Definitely scars, and possibly tattoos.

A color wheel for non-combat apparel.

Lastly, space can provide some of the most gorgeous views imaginable. If we had a view screen that could occasionally catch a glimpse of those, a changeful celestial landscape, it could contribute to the sense of immersion and wonder.

Please share any particular hopes you have for the look of Andromeda, however broad or minor. Thank you!

Sounds interesting. Bioware definitely can do a whole lot better in the aesthetics department.

If we run into alien ruins, I hope they resemble something looks like it once was sufficiently high-tech. That is at least, assuming that they're the ruins of a space-faring civilization.

One of my Sci Fi pet peeves with alien ruins is when they look like something that Bronze Age humans might have built. A space-faring civilization isn't going to build stone pyramids, one of many reasons why the conspiracy theories about the Egyptian or Mayan pyramids being built by aliens is so ridiculous. Any species that has mastered faster than light travel has better things to do with it's engineering prowess than pile stones for superstitious primitives.

Stone pyramids of course are totally fine if they're the remains of a civilization that died in it's Bronze Age.

Maybe Protheans were space-trolls.

Maybe it's just an artistic thing, or religious or whatever, and not all their buildings look like that, it just happened that we came across a replica of the ancient (insert greek word for extra-terrestrials) buildings.

While I have thankfully not seen evidence that the Protheans had influence on the pyramid constructs made by humans, the Protheans did have pyramid constructs of their own f these were actually built by them;

The pyramids contain recording discs which could be taken to mean that the pyramids were built after the protheans had reached the stage that developed that kind of technology though there is also the possibility that the pyramids were old architecture repurposed as vaults. Not the worse plan if they were trying to keep something under the Reapers' radar.

I'm really hoping the whole space component is more than just a glorified map for getting from planet to planet, too. In particular, I'd love to come across some strange space phenomena, Star Trek-style. This came up in another thread recently, but this sequence from Star Wars: Rebels is a great example of the sort of weird space **** I'm after:

The overwhelming size; the colours; the eerie music; the perception that, like the ocean, it could destroy you at any moment... The general spectacle of it all really works for me.

Considering the armour aesthetics for the protagonist and the human squad members. I'd like the visuals to branch off into 3 general styles: general human "traditional" ME style(ME:A artworks are great), an alien-looking organic style that creates an impression that the armour grows unto the characters and on the other side an alien mechanical looking, bulky armour, with slightly strange forms.

Examples:

"Organic"

"Mechanical"

The first picture looks a little like fantasy chain-mail bikini concepts, and the second looks a little too jagged and too full of thingamabobs to be practical.

That said, organic armor could work with races that are into "organic technology".
