The Asari and Salarians don't have the same style as the alliance anyway, even The Turian style is different (even if less so).

But that's not a good enough reason anyway, cars today may have many features in common, but we still have different designs all the time.

There are different influences here, and probably designers from different species, that's enough to create a new and refreshing style.

If the leak is to be believed, each race is bringing their own ships with the one we see in the N7 Day trailer being a central hub they connect with, like the Citadel. So the human ships will probably be built by humans primarily thus should look like a human design.

Still holding out hope for a crew that is multiracial from the get-go.

I hope so as well. It would be great to see various aliens as background NPCs on the Tempest.

Maybe, maybe not. Personally I found the Alliance ships boring in the extreme.

All those wings are as useful as nipple design on chest armor, they disrupt GARDIAN laser firing arcs, they present weak point to the structure of the ship, and since the ships aren't supposed to go into Atmosphere there is no point in them anyway.

I would prefer either a completely functional design, with barely any regard to style; or a more imaginative take than just arrow shapes with wings.

Yeah I haven't kept up with the leaks, this was new! Also while I agree with the necessity of familiar objects, we already have an abundance of that in this game Imo and it'd be nice if the Alliance could make a different design to the overused Normandy type vessel. It'd be a welcome change from the usual trope of sci-fi space ships.

Another design I would love is the CBS- 74 Ptolemaios II from Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

I don't know if I posted these already, but talking about ships...

The Expanse really nailed a more practical ship design without losing the Aesthetics appeal something that appears in a TV Show (or a video game) must have.

Personally, I'd switch the Normandy for the Anubis (the first one) which is also a stealth ship.

I'd hope Mass Effect will keep it's dark look though. DAI looks a little cartoony, bright and clayish for my taste. It looked fine for a game in a fantasy setting. Hope they make MEA look closer to the aesthetics ME has always had. Oh and please no ugly companions this time. I couldn't romance anyone in DAI all the girls were ugly, males too LOL.

I would want it to incorporate both light and dark tones and themes. It is a new galaxy, exploration, lots of opportunities, but also the fate of humanity is at stake (or so we have to assume), and we will possibly be faced with grim decisions.

That's just an assumption that isn't fully backed up by the leak. The leak mentions Krogan ships, yes, but they're already in Andromeda and there's no mention of them being built by Krogans. The Ark could just as easily have a small fleet of detachable exploratory vessels that the different races will use to scout planets suitable for themselves.

I wouldn't mind those from Juan Gimenez (Metabaron):

I think there should be bright and colorful moments too. Like say a planet heavy in flora and foliage.

Pretty, I really liked Bring Down the Sky in ME1 so having another mission set on an asteroid would be cool.

One more for the crashed ship theme, looks similar to MAss Effect style in a way:

Hmm.

Spoiler

The first two are just pretty, but that last one could make some cool casual clothing.

I think that the first and the third were quite pointless in relation to MAss Effect aesthetics(they don't fit in, imo), but this one is pretty good for all those scenarios where you encounter some settlers in a mild/hot climates, who are just a ragtag bunch of civilians, luck seekers, adventures scavenging for some valuables in their spare time. In previous games everyone was looking more like a farmer, so that style with its low-tech appeal would be a welcome change.

Here some other in the same vein:

That could be fun, maybe throughout the mission you can find terminals or messages that explain what happened to the ship. A nice little mystery to solve.

As I understood the lore, the 'wings' were the radiators, with the leading edge also utilising spray nozzles for a heat dispersion fluid (I can't remember if it had a name) that flowed over the radiators and assisted with dumping excessive heat from the ship.  I'm sure in the lore stuff in-game there was also something about using different materials as radiators on a ship to create a 'tiger stripe' effect when viewed through thermal sensors.  One of the things that ME got right really.  It all went out the window for Reapers and such, but I suspected that was a style over substance decision...

Starships: Heat Management
Dispersal of heat generated by onboard systems is a critical issue for a ship. If it cannot deal with heat, the crew may be cooked within the hull.

Radiation is the only way to shed heat in a vacuum. Civilian vessels utilize large, fragile radiator panels that are impossible to armor. Warships use Diffuse Radiator Arrays (DRA), ceramic strips along the exterior of the armored hull. These make the ship appear striped to thermographic sensors. Since the arrangement of the strips depends on the internal configuration of the ship, the patterns for each vessel are unique and striking. On older ships, the DRA strips could become red- or white-hot. Dubbed "tiger stripes" or "war paint" by humans, the glowing DRA had a psychological impact on pirates and irregular forces.

Strip radiators are not as efficient as panels, but if damaged by enemy fire, the ship only loses a small portion of its total radiation capacity. In most cases, a vessel's DRA alone allows it to cruise with no difficulties. Operations deep within solar systems can cause problems.

A ship engaged in combat can produce titanic amounts of heat from maneuvering burns and weapons fire. When fighting in a high heat environment, warships employ high-efficiency "droplet" heat sinks.

In a droplet system, tanks of liquid sodium or lithium absorb heat within the ship. The liquid is vented from spray nozzles near the bow as a thin sheet of millions of micrometer-scale droplets. The droplets are caught at the stern and recycled into the system. A droplet system can sink 10-100 times as much heat as DRA strips.

Droplet sheets resemble a surface ship's wake through water. The wake peels out in sharp turns, spreading a fan of droplets as the ship changes vectors and leaves the coolant behind.
