With that logic you can justify literally anything anywhere. Say for example you wanna include a velociraptor riding a shark jumping above the sea while brandishing an rpg;

See the raptor here was once a dude who got his mind downloaded inside a cloned velociraptor by cerberus and is now out for revenge against the bad guys while riding a huge great white shark (which he'd saved when it was a baby shark) and likes blowing **** up with an rpg....... Not so hard is it?

Now granted you do have a point as developers can with decent writing make weird things possible. As an example I'd say Quiet from Mgs V: Phantom pain. She's a sniper who's literally clad only in a bikini but the story explains why she does it. But it's still gonna come of as fan service though and not everyone is gonna take it the same way. Same goes for extreme high heels in combat because that's just really impractical as well.

lol, Combat stilettos from ME2 were as stupid as your velociraptor (without the benefit of being as stupid awesome), but at least you could get rid of them on some characters like Miranda (albiet you had to pay real money to do so).

ME3, though ratcheted it up to full retard with Eva Core/EDI's platform. When it is disabled and the Eva skin goes offline (and later when EDI assumes control of it), we see the metal chassis and find out it doesn't just "wear" heels, its feet literally are heels.

What a completely useless and counterproductive feature for an infiltraton unit designed to emulate a human (a species that is as far as I know not born with 4'' tall heels) in as detailed a manner as possible. What if it has to work a job with a dress code requiring it wear flats or work/combat/armored boots? What if the director of the super secret project it's attempting to go all Number 6 on in order to get information out of has some weird foot fetish? Busted.

Please....no more of this. No more robot cameltoe, battle cleavage/package or painful wedgie inducing leotards, either. I can't take the setting seriously when what are supposed to be actual people are wearing shіt like this, anymore than I can take Quiet seriously (though at least you can get her a shirt, too).

You put stilettos and velociraptor in the same sentence.

You made me post this

I blame comic books for all the things I dislike about video game aesthetics. Chain mail bikinis? Battle leotards and high heels? Over-sized weapons and armor on male characters? All that started with comic books.

I understand why they've had a large influence on the video game industry, even though I don't care for it. Given their popularity with geekdom in general it is probable that many video game developers are/were fans.

I think that the first and the third were quite pointless in relation to MAss Effect aesthetics(they don't fit in, imo), but this one is pretty good for all those scenarios where you encounter some settlers in a mild/hot climates, who are just a ragtag bunch of civilians, luck seekers, adventures scavenging for some valuables in their spare time. In previous games everyone was looking more like a farmer, so that style with its low-tech appeal would be a welcome change.

This is quite a delayed response, I know, but since it seems to have inspired so much discussion in the thread:

I disagree. I still think the first and the second are the ones without something substantial to offer (of course I framed that by calling them "just pretty," while you framed it by calling them "pointless.") The third one I posted, this one:

Spoiler

Could be a great design for the game, at least as a rough idea for an off duty outfit. Though it would be on a person rather than a robot.

I can say I'm too enthusiastic about the idea that the designs shouldn't change, especially when I'm confronted with in game clothing like this:

Casual_Spacer_Outfit.png

I mean, who designed that? She looks like a potato.

^that's goddamn revolting. I totally forgot those casual outfits. Sheploo's wearing a life preserver, and WTF is that BDSM collar on Femshep?

This thread is for naught and we're all doomed. These games are clearly designed by nerds with zero aesthetic or fashion sense.

I just as soon assumed they went to the Deanna Troi/ Seven of Nine school for scifi character designs, but then again I know next to nothing about comics

I know! And the crazy thing is, they had something halfway decent for MShep there before someone decided, "Hey, I know. Let's add a puffy, orangey-beige bolero. That's what we need to really kick this ensemble up a notch."

And why, for God's sake, is she wearing arm warmers? What's wrong with regular sleeves? The only time that kind of bare shoulder/fully covered arm look works is with opera gloves, preferably at the opera. That is one fevered interpretation of what a working person's outfit should look like.

I've been so tempted to try to get the lead design guys attention on Twitter and point him towards this thread, but I know that would be almost certainly futile at this point. It's not exactly early in development, and they'll do what they'll do anyway.

I'm not super knowledgeable about comics, so I've not encountered the bikinis or high heels. I think comics can do some aesthetics well though. I've always liked how the form fitting attire of super heroes allowed their artists to demonstrate the detail and dynamism of the human figure. Spider-man in particular usually showcases well.

I never did have any of my Shepards wear that specific outfit in any of my playthroughs, always had my Shepard stick to the default military outfit or the N7 casual gear. I am curious to see what kind of outfits will be available in ME:A.

Here's a few works that I consider very interesting. Some very large images so I've spoilered them since lower resolution just doesn't have the same feel. I'll link you to the artists if you're interested.

First spaceships,vessels and dreadnoughts.

Spoiler

Spoiler

A few examples of armor, gear and outfits, alien or otherwise.

Spoiler

And finally some general environmental art of locations, cabins etc.

I consider this outfit pointless in context of ME because it doesn't have that sort of sci-fi vibe, so to say. Remove the android and you'd end up with some generic current day jacket.

That's exactly what it is. That artist took a stock photo of a Korean jacket(probably from the amazon page) on a mannequin and turned the mannequin into a cyborg.

designer of ME 3 casual outfits. Get the **** out! I can have your job and design better outfits and I don't even know how to do that. But please bioware have cooler casual outfits. On the right track in terms of armor.

Of course, we all know what would happen if Bioware went the Bethseda route of allowing things to be easily modded:

We'd go from nice, lore appropriate practicality..

0eVFO04.jpg

.. to, well, not so much:

kJMG982.jpg

Only difference here would be the amount of people trying to justify it :D

The good thing with mods is that you don't have to download the ultra shmexy ones. I was looking into Mass Effect mods but they are mostly re-textures.
