Currently the Star Citizen has pretty good aesthetics in it's space ships.

Is it ever going to actually be released as an actual game?

This is one of the games I'm afraid will forever remain in "early access".

Body type was a hot topic a few weeks ago, and when I found this the other day it made me think of it.

I know how unlikely we are to see body type options in the CC, but still: the third, sixth, and ninth are the types I'd be most interested in having. I wish I'd be able to find something similar with female body types. Anyone else have a preference?

I'd probably go with 3.

In games with varying body sizes in the CC I usually go with options that are somewhere in the middle, and neither too thin or the most muscular or obese options.

In SWTOR nearly all my characters, both male and female, were body size 2 on the slider. For those who haven't played SWTOR there are four body size options in the CC. 1 for both sexes is short and very thin, 2 is average height and fit, 3 is tall and bulky but muscular for males and 4 is obese for males. 3 and 4 for female characters are both tall and muscular with 4 being a bit more bulky, with no option as obese as male 4. The only exception was my Sith Warrior. I gave him body type 3, since the class was supposed to be a Darth Vader type.

I find body type #5 most appealing, its IMO a sensible mix of being very fit (natural) and sustainability.

Being like #6 all the time is a ton of work and personally, I find having sharp abs poking out and being super veiny looks kind of silly, with both women and men. #5 also happens to be my body type which would help me with immersion.

I wish for once Bioware had enough guts - if choosing body build is going to be an option - to make something like this one of the available body types.

This would be an awesome build for a soldier.

Agree on both counts. I can't help but think that 3 and 6 look like their stomachs are going to crack into a thousand little pieces at any moment. If they're going with defaults, as it is likely the case, I'd like 5 for the male protagonist and something along the lines of the picture you posted for the female one.

Nah. In the Mass Effect universe, female soldiers have much skinnier arms!

I'd choose the bottom ones most likely. I much prefer my character to have a lithe build than a bulky one.

To be fair, it's not just a female thing with Bioware. I always wondered how Fenris could lift those ginormous swords and hammers all day long.

Ugh, Fenris.

I liked the character but hated everything about his character design. He looked like he got lost in Thedas while on his way to a Final Fantasy game.

Arms? They have spider legs growing out of their shoulders!

Agreed, only I was kinda neutral about him.

The concept of his abilities was very interesting, but his copious angst got old rather quickly for me.

I am also not sure that it was such a great idea to make him an amnesiac. Would have been more interesting if he knew that he actually chose this.

He sounded most of the time like some of those NPC's from TW3 in Novigrad: "Raining again?! Damn mages..."

What's your opinion on the female qunari body type?

Another good example of a more ideal female body type for Andromeda:

So the new trailer showed a hairstyle I could live with.

Here's hoping for at least one or two more.

What's your opinion on the female qunari body type?

I think all of the non human body types had a bit of weirdness about them, but none had it as bad as the male elf.

Qunari female was a bit broader than I would have liked, I guess. It ought to be statuesque of course, but I'd prefer a more graceful look and movement for the protagonist than DAI provided, for any of the races.

I think they succumbed to the whole "we mustn't put too much muscle bulk on a female character or people won't think she's sexy" line of thinking on that design.

Personally, I'd have liked to see the qunari female with more muscle bulk than she had - though I can't honestly say I expected it, for the reason stated above.

Y'know that whole, 'exploring the unknown' feeling, that from everything we've heard about how the game's going to play - Andromeda will absolutely need to capture to make all the planet-hopping we'll be doing feel meaningful? This video has it.

Reckon BioWare'll be able to nab the rights to some Sagan narration?

If not Sagan, then at least his fully-formed protege, deGrasse Tyson.  Both of them, great narrators.  Both of them, embodying all the passions that would drive someone like the Pathfinder.  I bet he'd do it just for the lulz*.

*all-expenses-paid lulz, that is.

Oh, and keeping on the theme of, 'cool space sh*t' - but in as different a way from that last video as is really feasible - there's this. Like or loathe the soundtrack - personally, eh, it's a bit of fun together with the video - you won't find a better compilation of sweet spacecraft doing sweet spacecraft things on YouTube. Trust me, I've looked.

I'm frequently an advocate for gravitas and grace when it comes to depictions of fictional spacecraft - once again, it's all the Star Trek speaking - but it's worth remembering that there's plenty to be said for showing just how much fun flying a starfighter, or the Millennium Falcon, or whatever else would be. It's pretty much the ultimate expression of personal freedom, after all--it's just you, your ship, and all the splendour of the universe to play around in.

There's a really great scene in Titan: AE, with the protagonist flying through a nebula, skimming clouds and racing these weird energy beings that live there, that captures what I'm trying to describe perfectly... But it's not on YouTube. There's bits of it in this little compilation video, though:

If you did support the redesigning of one of the MW species, which would it be? ("If," being the keyword. I'm well aware a lot of people would oppose a redesign of any kind.)

I'd go with Batarians.

How would you redesign them? Give them two eyes instead of four? Make them not jerks?

Well, I'm one of the few around here who actually likes the eyebrows, so there's that, but if I had to pick one... It's gotta be the Quarians, if only to address the fact that their unsuited 'look' really is just a photoshopped stock image.

You could either go for a 'soft' redesign, like with Asari brows, that looks close enough to what we've seen to engender some amount of verisimilitude, while still looking different enough to overcome some of the issues with the original design:

TavJVjl.jpg

Or you rip the plaster off and go all out with a proper retcon:

T5MD5q1.jpg

ZSXzNJs.jpg

Personally, I'd be cool with either. Just do something that's at least a mite more interesting than the old picture.

Maybe the Drell. I'd have liked them to be a little less humanoid. Elongated limbs, merged mouth/nose, more coarse head skin, tail etc.

Sure, but that would also defeat the purpose of their creation.
