A very special edition of "What can Bioware and Mass Effect learn from" as this is the first time we are looking at a movie! Huzzah and hooray! I know it is a movie and Mass Effect is a game but that does not mean that there are not things that can be learned from it and applied in a video game setting.

So what can Bioware and Mass Effect learn from Star Wars: the Force Awakens? Stay Away from Disney? Hoooo boy if you though George Lucas diddled your childhood just wait till you see what horrors the mouse has in store!

Haven't seen the movie yet (though I'm highly anxious too!), one thing I keep hearing from people's reactions about the movie was how the marketing didn't give away ANY of the plot. The level of secrecy they have maintained is to be commended. None of the secret plot twists or surprises, should there be any, have been spoiled. Whatever info people extracted from the trailers and marketing gave them little info as to what was really about to happen.

Compare Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Mass Effect 2 and 3's marketing. We basically knew the whole plot, all the characters, and even most of the twists and turns of the games before we even got to play. The "surprises" like the Normandy's destruction, the identity of Archangel, the epicness of Leaving Earth ... all those moments were spoiled before the games even hit the shelves. We had a pretty good idea as to what species we were recruiting and planets we were visiting in ME3 also.

Though I have to say, it looks like Bioware is taking a page out of J.J Abrams and Disney's playbook with Mass Effect Andromeda. Practically radio silence since the game started development in November 2012, save for some trailers and concept art.

The radio silence might be frustrating, but here's hoping it's for the best :)

George Lucas selling Star Wars is arguably the best f***ing thing that has ever happened to that franchise. Saw TFA last night and it did not disappoint.

Ok, going slightly off topic here. Would you say TFA was basically a modern "A New Hope" remake? That is still equally awesome but takes a lot of stuff from the original trilogy?

Really? I thought it was absolute garbage, some of the laziest plot work and writing I have ever seen.

Pretty much, basically the exact same plot with less memorable characters and locations. Seriously just take the script to A New Hope and change a few of the characters and locations to lesser imitations and you have the Force Awakens.

Droid gets stranded on desert planet holding vital information, finds new Jedi hopeful who escapes the planet in the Millenium Falcon and joins the resistance and takes out the death star.

It is definitely molded after A New Hope.

Either you haven't watched the prequels, or you have the worst tastes in fiction of anyone on this entire site, barring maybe the anime fans.

Say what you will about the prequel trillogy but at least it was far more imaginative than this tripe, and it had some great lightsaber duels.

Imaginative garbage is still garbage, not that any sane person would remotely consider George Lucas' prequel creativity a good thing.

and it had some great lightsaber duels.

There were only two worth remembering, DotF and BotH, and BotH was sullied by Lucas' awful direction, which had Christensen portray Anakin like a whiny brat throwing an unending series of progressively worse temper tantrums. That leaves DotF as the sole redeeming feature of the entire prequel trilogy.

I can agree on that. Force user combat was hardly exciting in the original trilogy, in comparison to the prequels.

I probably enjoyed the most seeing the various Yoda fights, it was the first time during the story where you actually got an example to the true power of the force.

So where does that leave the Force Awakens which is just plain garbage? Not going to get into a fight over which movie sucks more but I do find it a little funny when people go on about how George Lucas diddled their childhood when if it wasn't for him there would not be a Star Wars or original trillogy to begin with. Yes Jar Jar Binks sucks but whether or not you agree with the direction George Lucas went with the prequel trillogy it was his franchise to run into the ground.

They can learn how to make a good "reboot" of a franchise correctly. Saw it last night.

And the troll strikes again. The movie isn't released yet and already claiming a horror show. You might be right but no one has any clue because the movie isn't released so plz explain why you made an ass move like this?

Oh right you are a troll.

Because I live in a dystopian future where the internet connection sucks, everything is poisonous and out to kill you and people drive on the left side of the road.

You do know there are timezones outside the US and that the 17th of December (aka the Force Awakens release date) comes earlier for some people don't you?
