I've noticed this happen, everytime I use "a handful" of lights in an area.

The issue is, when theres quite a few lights, they produce graphical glitches on the floors, and even shading the water darker than what it currently is.

You can see below of an area, which is an exterior but made to look interior (underground city);

As you can see, there's tiled "glitches". I understand that its due to the lights, but whats the reason behind it so I can prevent it?

Iirc, you get a max of six active light sources per tile. The sun counts, and figure the player will have one, so in practice you will have a limit of five because either you're outside and there's a sun, or you're inside and they have a torch/glowing thing to see by. The lights do not have to be in the tile, only the light sphere generated by the light.

/pretty area :-)

Yes, and I believe the light source doesn't actually need to be in the tile; just having the light's circumference overlap the tile will do it.

What I'm not sure about is what the game engine uses to prioritize the light sources it does allow for a tile. Is it the most luminous lights? The lights with the largest radius? Does the light source being in the tile count?

When I removed one, some other lights became brighter lol

Yep, this is the pain of building interior areas, or exterior areas with a cave roof. You have to turn on light spheres and count every tile, and make sure none exceed 5 touches.
