Objectives determine everything. Devices are a bummer but if you take a minute at the start of the wave to bunch the first spawn into a tight group they are much easier to kite. If that fails then nuke the device. I usually reserve 3 nukes in case of wave 10 targets so the other 3 (or 6) can be used in desperate times on waves 3 and 6. And with targets, nuke the first one in a big hurry and you will not have to deal with boss-level targets for the rest.

Cheese hacks if possible and do the awkward console pizza-run. Though if those don't work neither of those objective are difficult. Escorts are the easiest if you can manage to do even some rudimentary kiting.

If you only care about mission success, not completion time, then patience is the key for non-objective waves. Don't take unnecessary risks and keep moving. Unless I get a really advantageous position I will only kill one or two enemies at a time before moving to my next killzone. Some matchups I would consider good for breaking into gold solos:

asari huntress vs reapers

venom vanguard vs cerberus

human/salarian engineer vs geth

warp rounds drell assassin sniper vs collectors

saber turian sentinel vs unknown

How does a pet-focused VolSent do? I've had a lot of success aggro dumping with him in a team, but how well does the decoy/drone then cloak work for aggro-dumping when solo?

What about the Cabal? She has good DoT and Biotic Focus?

I've also done quite a few Silver solos with the Asari Vanguard (Charge for heals, Harrier and Lift Grenades for damage, no stasis), does she work on Gold too?

VolSent will depend on weapon choice.  All Volus have Shield Boost, which can be helpful.  Really it will come down to amount of DPS, especially against certain factions and late target waves if you are out of rockets.

Cabal isn't bad.  The no-PS build was bandied as one of the "easiest" platinum classes by some.

If you have done a lot of AV silver solos, you should give that class a try.  Harrier wouldn't be my first choice though (Venom, Wraith, Talon, decent semi-automatic).

So, the more I play with PUGs, the more I keep wanting to solo. And since I can solo Bronze/Silver pretty easily, even if unequiped and underleveled, it's probably time I moved up. Right now, my only Gold solos are 36-43mins as a Juggernaut (no Adrenaline mod, so slow af to move). I've also Duo'd Gold a few times with various characters (Mostly Biotics).

So, to those of you who actually do this regularly, I'm ready to get addicted to your solo-crack, what advice would you give to ensure somebody gets as hooked as you on soloing?

What do you do when enemies refuse to kite and love to camp that device you just can't seem to get a crack at? Devices is my biggest bane, hacks/escorts you can usually kite enough of the spawn to brute force the ones left at the circle, but sometimes, that just isn't the case with devices (Atleast for me).

Also, I play on PS3, so no objective hacking/setting.

This is indeed a pain in the a$$. I've always lured the boss enemies as far away from the device as possible then quickly run towards the device and eliminate the mooks around it. In extreme cases where time is about to run out I just missile the spot. It's not always necessary to kill any mooks as some devices have good cover and the mooks with guns for the most part aren't programmed to rush you during device hacking. Banshees are probably the hardest to kite cuz they can teleport through walls so simply damage her enough where she stops teleporting and run back to the device. In some cases it may be necessary to tank 1 or 2 warp balls from her to successfully hack some devices. I believe most kits can tank atleast 2 of them before needing to ops....

Try it with your favorite kit/weapon/map, the key point for me is having fun. Solos in general takes a long time when you are starting out, and it can become very tedious if you don't enjoy what you are playing.

Objectives can be brutal, on platinum targets is the hardest in general but devices can be quite a challenge as well, sometimes you will just have bad luck with Atlases not moving away no matter how much you try to kite them away.

Be prepared to redo it a few times, especially on platinum, everyone that have done it have several failed attempts as well.

I prefer White for a map on most situations, sometimes Glacier or Giant.  I say trial by fire though, you should just do some solos and see how you react, and get better with practice.  No matter how much knowledge or information you get on here, you still have to execute, and it's just something you kind of build comfort with.

i only did one plat solo worth the flamer acolyte, a lot of patience....

but i do solo waves here ands there: i remember a full w8 collector white Plat with the volus engy ppr, took me a bit but it was doable.

the issue is the mindset, if i know i will solo I'm more careful, if I'm pugging i can be more aggressive

Total easy mode: Krogan Vanguard vs. Geth on Glacier. Slap an easy mode shotgun like the Wraith on him, spec BC to give bonus weapon damage and go. Disruptor or Incendiary ammo for extra explosions/stagger. Abuse invincibilty frames during grabs, do heavy melee to skip reload animation and make sure to charge the moment the gun is empty to get an insta reload the moment you hit the target.

*yawn*

Or play a Shadow solo vs. Cerberus if you don't want to fall asleep. ;)

I play Plat alot,  I use various players, Asari and Batarians  mostly, you are going to die the first couple of time but you will get it. Take your time and plan before you move. Assume that at each mission point their will be Phantoms waiting for you. So before you move to your next point fire at a couple of them and get Geth Scanner,

You will do fine. It just takes practice. Good luck,

I agree that white is probably the best overall solo map, considering ease, speed, and flow.

White is one of the best balanced maps in the game. Reactor is pretty good too. Reactor has lots of soft cover, relatively short sightlines, and many escape routes.

Glacier, Vancouver, London, and Rio are generally bad maps, if you lose control of the map, things get pretty bad, Rio's long, unprotected sightlines make it more suited to camping (ugh).

The other maps are neither good, nor bad. Goddess' size works against it, so it can be tricky like Glacier. Ghost has some funky ladders, which can both hinder and help. And I'm not a fan of the open areas of Giant, you may notice I'm not a fan of long sightlines, I like being able to use walls to funnel and escape enemies, NOBODY likes being sniped by that one Prime who can see everything.
