Most were pretty good, I agree that Loghain was off.  I have been totally unsure if Teagan was the previous teaghan becasue he looked nothing like the previous one and acted not at all like the previous one would be expected to act.

I wanted by Inquisitor to have a spoken line that started with 'But Teaaaagahhhhhannnnnnnn!'

Whoizismontygon?

I think they should have used Seneschal Garevel instead of Arl Teagan. No one would have cared if he looked different, and they have the same voice actor. Would have made more sense story-wise as well, since Teagan should actually be grateful to the Inquisition in some worldstates.

Alistair and Teagan were the two I was disappointed with.

Alistair was too gaunt - it's like they were trying to compensate for all that weight they put on him in DA2 and went too far the other way, not to mention the hair style/color.

Spoiler

Teagan aged too much - I get it's been 10 years but it looks more like 20 for Teagan. And again that gaunt look.  Bah!

Alistair was good imo. Maybe too good considering he should age more and he looks better than we meet him in Origins.

I didn't recognize Teagan - not only his face but also his behaviour.

Leliana looked good but a little off for me. Maybe she lost some weight. :P

Morrigan was the best. They really put a lot of effort with her. But she wasn't exactly like in Origins.

My Alistair remained a Warden and I thought he'd aged pretty well. I had no problem with him. I mean, they will always vary since the graphics are completely different. Characters that appeared in all three games have always differed greatly from game to game. (I was very unhappy with Alistair's DAII design. I don't think it's the devs' fault, though. The engine is what it is.) I find his DAI appearance, as a Warden in my case, perfectly fine given the new engine. I do feel like he generally became fairer in both skin and hair - he was rather tan in Origins and his hair was darker blonde, I think. However, overall I thought he looked pretty great and I could easily tell it was him.

On the other hand, I felt that Morrigan's features changed a lot (Her face shape, her nose, etc.) but... I love her DAI appearance. I think she's very beautiful, looks more real and she has an amazing smile. I got very disappointed, though, when she got rid of the gorgeous dress from the Winter Palace (It looked so stunning on her!) and dressed in the rags from Origins. (Why is she still wearing that all the time? It's been 10 years! If she really needs to show off her assets, she can do that while wearing something new.)

Now Cullen... Hell, Cullen was a shock. He changes a lot between all three games, but DAI turned him into this big piece of eye candy... and, I mean, I'm not complaining because... damn, look at him, DAMN. But I don't know how to feel about it because it's such a huge transformation and I can't tell whether it's because they decided to give him some love and thought it more fitting for his character (which I'm hoping for) or because they just tried to please us since he's romanceable now. I sure as hell wouldn't recognise him if the rest of the character wasn't there, though. Then again, given that he was supposed to be very young in Origins (The Toolset actually spoke of 24, if I'm not mistaken, which eventually changed to around 20 in the story.), I've never understood the design choices behind his Origins' appearance as he definitely looked too old for this age. Heh, Cullen is complicated. I like him in all three games, but I can't say I'm unhappy about what he looks like in DAI.

Leliana's curious. I feel that her features are longer and less round in DAI. On the other hand, I quite enjoy her appearance in DAI. It has a bit more flavour. But I feel that her skin is almost unnaturally smooth, like it's not even real. I can't really complain about her, however. Really love the outfit she has going, too.

Cassandra is recognisable, but definitely different. Her nose and the shape of her face especially, I think. Again, I totally love her in DAI, though. I think they captured her personality so well and she's very beautiful. Happy to see the scars, too. They suit her. (Scars are so cool. I always want to ask about how a character got them. Same with Cullen.)

Varric looks totally different to me, though. I mean, I can easily tell it's him as he has many other trademark features like Bianca and all his chest hair, lol, and that's a good thing, but his facial features changed completely, in my opinion. He used to have this huge jaw going, bigger forehead and quite uniquely shaped but straight nose... I feel like his face became much rounder in DAI. But I have no issues with either version of him, I suppose.

I was glad to see Flemeth was more like an old woman again. I think the DAII version was a little too crazy and anime (That hair. Seriously.) and DAI didn't fix some of that for me (I don't think it's very fitting for the setting.), but I liked what they did with her face. I can see how much love went into it and I think it suits her perfectly.

As for Hawke, I couldn't get her quite right. But given that the graphics are so different, I didn't mind trying my hand at making a more realistic version of her. I quite enjoyed the result, even if it wasn't the same. (I don't think that's even possible with how different the games are.) What bothered me a little was that the short hairstyle wasn't available any more. I really liked that one on her in DAII.

And Teagan got old beyond recognition. Then again, it's been, what, 12 years. I wouldn't recognise him if I weren't told it was him, but I didn't have a problem with it. I absolutely didn't recognise seneschal Bran at all and it took some time before I realised who he was. The fact his hair colour changed didn't help. I probably wouldn't recognise Anora, either. None of them looked bad, but I couldn't tell it was them until announced or until they started talking (because I'd always recognise Anora's voice, at least).

All in all, I guess I can say I generally enjoyed what the old NPCs looked like in DAI. I felt like the new engine added new realism to them that wasn't quite possible before. With that came some new features, which is okay. I also remember it's been over 10 years since Origins. They definitely looked different, more or less, but I was always able to tell who was who, minus a rare exception or two. So, yeah, I suppose I like most of it.

Then again, that's just me, of course.  :)

Fair enough :D But I certainly agree on the Cullen part, damn! For some reason I want to hear him say Alistair's "Swooping is bad" XD

Characters are going to look different across engines..

Not to mention it's been decades since the events of DAO...

You guys do too much. :P

I do no such thing!

As someone already pointed out tho, even tho its a different engine, you can still make them look the same with some upgrades like Morrigan.

I think everybody looks amazing, though I did struggle with my custom Hawke. That was difficult. After several hours and several attempts I did manage to get my Hawke looking reasonably like herself, just older and worn, which fits. I'll play DAI one more time in the run up to DA4, a replay of my canon Inquisitor, so I'll get one more shot at it.

A shame they can't read your save and re-create your character into the new game. Would make it much easier lol.

Lmao. When I saw him in Trespasser I was like. "I am suppose to know you from Orgins, but alas I have no clue who" Then I found out who he was and wanted the option to say "damn you be grumpy!"

It's the blonde hair!  :D When I saw DAI Cullen before the game was released, I thought, "Oh, come on. They're just making Alistair 2.0 with smaller nose!" I'm happy to say I was wrong. As much as I like Alistair, I'm really glad they're very different people. Still, "Swooping is bad," could be pretty funny coming from him. I do have a thing for references. But, hey, "If you squint, Lake Calenhad looks like a bunny," is good, too. (And there goes my focus for this war table session, thanks.)

Most references goes over my head, I don't really think about what is said unless its plain obviously which sometimes, not even that gets me to realize it xD

But for some reason I remember quotes quite well. "Swooping is bad". "Have YOU ever licked a lamppost in winter?" etc XD

Seriously? In DAO, her cheeks are very full and her mouth is ridiculously small, to the point that she looks as if she's pursing her lips when she isn't. They changed her appearance in DA2 to make her look more like an adult, and kept the changes in DAI. Her DAI look is much closer to her concept art.

Leliana is not nearly as the Origin we used to know. Also her temperature...well it's said in the game that she changed from the blight but I really prefer the old Leliana. She was my favorite partner also, lol. She's pretty anyway here in Inquistion but her face is maybe too long and I absolutely hate that hood.

Other charachters are okay exept Vivienne that I don't like maybe because she has no hair and Cole that looks very gross imo.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up.

I know you can't the graphic to look the same, but if you take a look at Morrigan you will see that even with better graphics you can still make the characters look like the ones in DA:O and DA:2 did.

Also as long as Morrigan washes her clothes here and there I am not too bothered by it XD

Yes Cullen looks very nice :* He is married to my first play-through tho I was close in choosing Solas lol.

I see a huge difference in Leliena's head shape, it seems more pointy here lol.

Varric, Cassandra and Hawke I have not seen as I have not played DA:2. Only seen videos of Varric and erm, well, he looks like a thug leader who smokes cigars o.O He looks MUCH better now.

I didn't recognize any of them, nor by voice or looks. Tho I care nothing for Anora I find her rather annoying.

10 years?! D: No wonder I had little memory of the game.

Solas is a hot piece too :P (though I know some don't see the appeal).

If you mod Cullen and give him messy hair and thicker/darker beard, he is just.. omg no words to describe. Please find me a man like that irl asap :D

Hahhaa Varric the thug leader smoking cigar cracked me up XD hahahahha

10 years passed in game :P irl it was out in 2009 :P

Alistair looks hot what are you on? :P If anything he was more gaunt in DAO. He looks much healthier in DAI.

Teagan may have been aged a little too much, but the facial structure is the same. If he had his DAO hair you'd see the similarities.

Honestly, my main concern is that they'd get yet another engine which will end up messing with the face of returning characters from different game. Every DA uses a different engine, afterall :-/

EA said in 2013 that all future Bioware games would be made using Frostbite 3, so that's most likely what DA4 will use as well.

So far I know she is hardened in the game whatever she was hardened in Origins or not. But you can un-hardened her if you do some certain things towards her during the game till you get her quest.

The hood took me some time to get used to, but new its grown on me.

Egg head hot? Hmm, he is not as hot as Cullen but he does have a certain... pull <.< *cough*

Dat hair! XD It sadly reminds me of one of the hairstyles in Sims, so I don't think it fits him. I prefer his real hair (the hair he has here not his noodle hair in Origins and DA:2)

Is it now I go "That's what I am here for, to deliver unpleasant news and witty one-liners" ?

Honestly, my main concern is that they'd get yet another engine which will end up messing with the face of returning characters from different game. Every DA uses a different engine, afterall :-/

Someone has already answered I can see. But I wanted to add that, things do sadly change when new games are being made. But since their face are quite realistic looking, I would reckon that they won't change their faces that much.

The only one I'm kinda disappointed in is FemHawke. She doesn't really look like Hawke from DA2. Maybe it's just me. Everyone else is gravy.

This.

Didn't feel connected to my Hawke when seeing her again in DA:I.

I thought Isabela looked great, too. From DAMP.

I would've loved to see the rest of the DA2 crew under the Frostbite engine, but maybe the game can only handle so many ungodly attractive people at once?

They didn't get very close to FemHawke with their new design, but everyone else mentioned here transitioned pretty well. Flemeth, Loghain and Teagan simply showed their age is all!

Morrigan and Varric haven't changed much. I do custom Hawkes so, none of mine look like the default anyway but, it is a bit tricky to get even a custom Hawke to look close to the DA2 Hawke they are meant to be.

Leliana hasn't changed too much, a bit but for the better.

Cullen, he's changed a lot but, he looks good now and, trying to invent a plausible headcannon for his new scar is fun.

Yeah I agree and I do custom Hawke as well I just pick a look that is similar to the Hawke I created in DA2 and kind of make that do.
