I don't disagree, but I see this thread as less about whether we need these titles and more about trying to predict what kind of name will end up being the most common, which is interesting to consider ahead of time. I made a similar thread once about what we'll end up calling the first 3 games in the future, although this is arguably even more fun to speculate on
You make a good point, though, don't get me wrong.
I don't really mind, I'm just suggesting we could be more efficient with words.
I know it will happen regardless.
As far as the dog tag, its a trailer not everything will be symbolic. But if it is id say it might be him removing his tags and taking charge of it all himself.Ryder probably isn't the PC. We saw a single, loose dog tag with that name. Why would the PC separate his or her dog tags and leave the primary one floating around. Ryder is most likely the N7 character from the trailer and he most likely dies.
Do we actually need gender titles? For most occasions we'll be referring to the character regardless of gender and for others it shouldn't be hard to drop a gendered pronoun in the same sentence. When gender is directly relevant to the conversation it doesn't seem much to spend an extra word on clarity.
The distinction will certianly be useful in some conversations. And could be fewer keystrokes than the gender pronouns.
Also, Rydude and Rydette sound awesome. I second those.
I need a gender title so I can search for the fanfic I wanna read

Except that the pronouns are more than likely to already be in the sentence and unless we're cutting down to mRyder or fRyder as the designations they aren't saving letters over the two and three required for a pronoun.
As for usefulness, I'd argue they aren't. In conversations were gender is important I would suggest that significance should be reflected by properly declaring it with male, female, man, woman etc not gabbling through it using internet contractions. For everything else context should be enough.
I mean, if you enjoy using various titles, names, whatever that's a good enough reason, but there isn't a need.

With a name like Ryder?
*smacks forehead* Ohhhh, boy.
EDIT : You can believe that Shepard will be forgotten just about the time that this game releases.

surprisingly my mind does not instantly wander into sex land when I hear the name Ryder, to me it's just like any other last name.
I'm planning to make a gay protagonist, so male Ryder is perfect actually.
There is no way I am ever going to refer to a male Ryder as anything other than ManRyder.

gonna name him richard?
gonna name him richard?
Nah, it's his middle name. His full name is Vinny Richard Ryder.
Well, I wish I could finally have good homomance for female character and go with FemRyder as well. q.q

I just hope LI options are better this time.
Rydude
Rygal
I like those two
Honestly, nothing is going to top Inquisitrix anyway.
I'll call my PC Saber Ryder cuz I'm a star Sheriff
Honestly, nothing is going to top Inquisitrix anyway.
I will never use that abomination.
Years ago, someone called their warlock "Warlockess" in WoW, completely straightfaced. Now leaving aside that warlock is gendered anyway, that was the worst thing I'd ever seen and made me want to grind my teeth to bloody nubs.
Casey Ryder, by the by. I like the sound of it.
Since I'm a Kylo fan (very good movie, I recommend you see SW7). How about Rylo for the guy and Rylete for the woman?
I was going to name my Ryder, Kyle Ryder. But I actually like Rylo... Maybe Kylo
*Dr. Evil pinky gesture* Muhaa, muhaa, muha--- nothing? Not even a titter? Tough crowd -_-'
