If it does turn out the protag's name is Ryder, I'm hoping there aren't a lot of juvenile jokes about the name. Attempts at middle school humor (are you listening, Donnelly?) get really old really fast.

I suspect it will be common enough they will have a need for a seperate forum just for bad Ryder name jokes. It will be the new off topic forum.

I'm still waiting for the LI to be revealed before deciding what kind of Ryder he is.

surprisingly my mind does not instantly wander into sex land when I hear the name Ryder, to me it's just like any other last name.

When I first heard the name I just thought oh Shaun Ryder, and I don't really like his music.

They should just change the name slightly and be done with this foolishness. Ryker or Rylan sound similar enough.

Or they could just find something else that does not suck, I mean Vladimirskovich sounds like a cool name, right?

There can never be too much gay, not until we turn everyone gay as pertained by the gay agenda.

It's crazy when people say the gay agenda, I normally laugh because of how stupid it is..

and yet I think gaming is the one area where the LGBTs are just as likely to be the oppressors and bigots as the middle road Vanilla types.

Labels don't insulate you from being a jerk.

Not that it's necessarily common or anything, hmm.. I guess it's just gamers tend to be quite unique in many ways.

gamers just like to vent and when it comes to the "gay agenda" rightfully so, seeing as how many people have an issue with gay characters. Less with w/w but m/m always seems to stir the pot which is just ridiculous.

Whatever people have problems with gay characters though... I just don't really think of those people as gamers necessarily, I don't know. Like all the people I played games with growing up couldn't care less about that kind of thing, myself included.

I mean, the relative lack of quality of experience in Shadows of Undrentide is what stopped me from wanting to play Bioware games, the lack of intrigue, interest, the kind of smoothed over non-hardcore game experience? Yeah, that can bug me.

I mean, to be honest, it's kind of hard to view characters as having a "sexuality" anyway, considering they are often primarily designed with the game in mind and not necessarily extensively diving into their psyche.

Al though I will say as I think I mentioned elsewhere that the notion of a "gay agenda" in Bioware games is pretty silly it's like saying a big cake with a tiny cherry on top is like you are getting just one big cherry and the cherry is always in your face and nothing but cherry everywhere. Their games tend to be replete with such an insane amount of content, the exact sexual preferences of the people you are with is like the last thing I notice.

Especially in SWTOR I can't even keep track of which character wants what necessarily.

That said, I did come across some kind of visible people who seemed to be fairly pro-LGBT whilist being fairly anti-gaming which kinda was like.. well.. that's uh.. jeez. I never imagined growing up that a group of people marginalized their whole lives would find time to marginalize a different group of people, the world can be kinda stupid sometimes..

I don't know why I used cherry in that analogy which is kind of faintly sexual whelp it's too late to turn that ship around I'm sticking to it.

That's because gamers have been insulated in so many ways.  I mean, if you think about it, they've been sitting at home creating their male hetero sex type fantasy for so many years.  And I'm saying this as a male who is hetero.  I almost stopped playing games when the Mario Bros. hit.  "Oh, save the princess, what a concept."

What I don't get is all the blame put on 'hetero male gamers'. it isn't we who designed games like that, its the companies. Bioware suddenly decides to stop being one sided in their storytelling, and all of a sudden they are the heroes standing up to the mean old straight male gamers. They created the problem in the first place. We didn't ask to get pandered to. Trolls and idiots on BSN aside.

I nearly gave up on Dragon Age when their demo had Isabela offering to provide 'company later' as its selling point.

The chicken and the egg problem.  Which came first, yadda yada yadda.  I would have to say that the problem here doesn't lay with either of them, it's just that the gaming industry has grown from either a chicken or an egg into a more evolved type of life form.

And gamers aren't ready to experience that.

EDIT :  I mean, the gaming industry has to start from somewhere.  I don't care what they call me (as if I'm the start of gaming, heh), geek, nerd, neckbeard, misogynist, basement dweller, etc.  I've evolved.  And so should gaming.
