They should just change the name slightly and be done with this foolishness. Ryker or Rylan sound similar enough.
Or they could just find something else that does not suck, I mean Vladimirskovich sounds like a cool name, right?
because big companies care about the $ and so they try to stick to what has worked for years despite voices calling for a change. I remember myself over 15 years ago being pissed off that women were always half naked for no reason, armor just barely covering anything that needs covering during a full on war and not much has changed.
It's not that sex sells, you don't see much of that same treatment for guys and if they do it it's just fan service. Women sold stuff, women sell stuff and women will sell stuff in the future if it keeps going like it is.
Same with sexuality. It's very fluid. But companies still think that sticking to the same old boring concept works. In reality it's the lack of high quality alternatives. But that's just my opinion.

I don't know if they get it or not but girls with the right attitude will always be one step ahead of girls with the right size of boobs. The thing is that we are also more difficult to find, let alone emulate in a made up story. I agree with everything you say. I'm just adding my 10 cents, trying to find an explanation that doesn't involve frustrated developers
This game can't come already so we can have more threads about people complaining about the game and less of this bullshit
you call it bullshit I call it life.
In my experience, the only people who are insulated and not ready to experience differences have been non-gamers...
Gaming, well, hardcore gaming I guess is a pretty intense thing, instead of it being passive you are forced to play and think, react.
But like, whatever, the important thing is people should be learning more about both kinds of mediums perhaps? Learning from each other, etc, etc.
you call it bullshit I call it life.
I call it yarborough but I have been known to confuse words.

*With cautious concern*
What are we going to call them?
Fem Ryder maybe but Bro Ryder not so much and not for the dirty minded reasons either, it just sounds weird and Male Ryder is worse really when you think about it.
So what kind of classy gender descriptive nickname does a guy or gal named Ryder get is what I'm getting at here.
Gender: Duck
Name: Donald Ryder.
Gender: Duck
Name: Donald Ryder.
The chicken and the egg problem. Which came first, yadda yada yadda. I would have to say that the problem here doesn't lay with either of them, it's just that the gaming industry has grown from either a chicken or an egg into a more evolved type of life form.
And gamers aren't ready to experience that.
EDIT : I mean, the gaming industry has to start from somewhere. I don't care what they call me (as if I'm the start of gaming, heh), geek, nerd, neckbeard, misogynist, basement dweller, etc. I've evolved. And so should gaming.
Nah, it isn't a chicken or egg thing. It's that we men are ridiculously easy to manipulate into spending our money. Show us an attractive women and our cognitive brain function turns off and we start drooling and tossing money at the vendor..
OK that's a slight exaggeration, but this is how marketing people have been marketing to men for decades, if not centuries. They know from vast experience that including an attractive woman in their advertising will get men's attention and increase sales.
I don't know how they market to women, but I suspect it's more subtle, maybe appealing to emotions (other than lust). If you include scantily clad males in your advertising, most likely you'll be getting gay males interested, not women.
Gaming has just been following that trend. Many old games featured an image of a scantily clad woman on the box. Even today, look at facebook game ads or ads on many other sites. They use sexy women in advertising not because men are misogynistic jerks who think that's how women should be portrayed, but because they know a large segment of men (or teenage boys) will click to see what it is, hoping to see more. the infamous chainmail bikini babes were actually put in to keep men interested and spending their money, not because "we men expect our wimmens to be dressed like that all the times *burp*"
Or look at the top viewed games on Twitch. You'll see a lot of the channels that make the most money in donations feature women wearing skimpy cosplay outfits. One I saw listed her top donators (biggest D she called them.. wink wink) one donation was 20k. Let me repeat that. 20,000 dollars in one donation. I doubt most guys, and most girls who don't fish for donations like that, ever crack 100 at a time. I'm embarrassed for my gender. lol
It's not gaming that needs to evolve, its marketing. And maybe men. ![]()
But don't get me wrong, gaming has indeed always been considered a 'men's activity' only. Marketing plainly still thinks it is. Some men (or boys) get stupid about it at conventions too. But by and large, most gamers couldn't care less what other players they'll never meet are packing between their legs. Why would they?

Since i'm lesbian, i understand the appeal of a hot girl in some outfit or whatever and you are right about marketing techniques. HOWEVER, it's also true that the gaming industry has grown into something more than just another type of entertainment. IMO, is has become it's top option. More than tv shows, movies, books and so on and every kind of entertainment needs and has it's own strategy in terms of marketing. I would even say that every KIND of game uses different strategies. In the case of ME, having such a balanced population in both age and gender, a change of course was in order and the same thing can be seen in other cases. The gaming industry needs to step up to the popularity that now enjoys.

At the risk of feedin the troll, i'll answer you. A distinction is something necessary when you are, for example, looking for a particular moment in the game with a protagonist of x gender (the reason might be because you prefer the voice acting, general feel, whatever) same thing for a particular piece of art, be it official or fanmade, and so on.. A name helps you find what you are looking for quickly. It's not the best example, of course..but a practical one and you seem like the practical sort. Also, i cannot understand your lack of respect for others and what they choose to do or the reason behind it. If you are not interested in this particular topic, why not let it be and go do something more interesting? ^^ actually, don't tell me. Just go ahead and do it. Hi5!

All's I can say is, the word FemShep is practically it's own brand.

The fact that people target the gaming industry as a center for sex sells or something is just completely insane to me.
Pornography is the center of using people as sex sells sort of thing, or lots of advertisements or TV shows etc etc.
A bunch of feminists or masculinists or whatever seem to sometimes confuse gaming for that kind of thing, but what they failed to realize is that gaming is actually where people just like actually are interested in the human body and making characters look as cool as possible, which, yesh, god forbid, might mean thinking along a sexual dimension. It's the honest interest in something, not the kind of fake cheap generate donations version.
That said, modern gaming has become so suspiciously mainstream that I'm not surprised it now has examples of that kind of boring tedious baseline thing. When I see peope tear into examples in the gaming sphere can't help but point out that this is the new AAA mainstream/Hollywood alliance that should be distinguished.
Bioware is kind of the last line of defense as for as AAA games go in some ways, having a strong origin in the mainstream gaming sphere from it's inception (arguably sort of creating it)
Anyway, just something I never really understood is all lol carry on...

Well, my only disagreement in that is that the attitudes of the marketing department need to change and the suits in charge need to step up. As long as there are religious, political and parent groups lobbying the gaming industry to avoid content they find 'distasteful', there will be censorship in games. Bioware is indeed making steps in the right direction, even if I don't agree with the implementation sometimes. What I object to is the apparent blame thrown at players for this censorship. We gamers have no power in saying what Bioware has or doesn't have in their games. The afore mentioned lobby groups do that whether we like it or not. The reason our opinions don't mean much, even when we whine on forums, is ht the company knows they've already got our money. ![]()

Yep, as I said above, lobby groups of various political and religious types or parent groups who are worried that their kids might *gasp* see a body part. lol
In any case, it occurrs to me that this is way off topic. ![]()

Just out of curiosity, why/how do we know that?
