In recent times, I've been playing a lot of SWTOR, finally experiencing the insane depth and breadth of content offered by one of Bioware's recent games.

It's still something I could talk about a lot, because it's been quite a bit of fun. For starters, there are eight different class story quests to go through, Eight! In WoW in recent times, people were excited to have the Warlock class quest, which of course was nice, but also it helped me be amazed that SWTOR could feature as many as 8 different unique storylines, built over the course of basically the entire leveling arc of your character and through many different worlds.

The one I did, the Sith Inquisitor, was appropriately Sith and Inquistorial, which is even more interesting considering I've read people say the Sith Inquisitor was actually one of the plainer ones, well it still satisfied me!

Anyway, from what I've done on the Jedi Knight, it feels underplayed and not so obviously in your face kind of heroic story you get told, it's more like people who are used to that kind of thing and trying to make things more subtle and interesting. I'm also interested in trying out more but as said it's a lot of content!

I went and listened to some older interviews and found a lot of the things to be true for me as I was playing

They mentioned for instance the first time you get on your ship and I agree totally! It's very cool to have an MMO where you feel like the game is trying to make you feel cool and have fun, the ship but also I noticed the strongholds are really well done and have a lot of detail in them also, they make you feel like you are once again just kind of hero and an adventurer.

This permeates a lot of quests and small details as well.

On the choice and consequence side, I'd have to say it was done better than most Choice and Consequence games just period even some of Bioware's own titles, for instance the choices between saving or destroying civilians of the Republic kept coming up and made me think about the status of non-combatants in wartime. It seems to me, the lines between civilians and combatants are sometimes blurred, some civilians benefit from and make a large gain off of the state they support, and some civilians are just nominal members of the state, and who may in fact not want to be part of the state but aren't really their by choice.

In the end though, I would usually collapse them as the types to be actively supporting, and thus military personnel, especially considering they were usually for whatever reason stationed on military bases. Civlians on military bases huh? Sounds FISHY

But of course, for everyone of those decisions I also play the Jedi side and take all the light side to see how that goes, and it's amazing how compelling just a straightforwardly heroic tale can be. I like just doing things because they are good, and not for any complicated reason, or because it seems like a nice thing to do and not because anyone is compelling my character. Both the light side and dark side feel fleshed out to make you think about the decisions more and not feel hamfisted, the black talon instance was one of the early ones and whether on light side or dark side, and whichever the decision, it was definitely a fairly powerful video game experience

Dragon Age 2 and other Bioware games made choices easier, instead of having to deal with thorny issues I was offered the ability to avoid them entirely, characters and leaders would simply say "These are just too difficult to make," or "No one is really right in this case," or in other instances, just have the choice taken away and a fight commence.

The reality is though those interesting choices made the Bioware company the name it is to me now, at any rate.

As for the rest of the game, all the interfaces and polish are really something, it's honestly amazing to me they made such a strong game, and well, I guess plenty of people played it, but I still am kind of surprised to not see it more popular. It's certainly far and above lots of other AAA game fare I've come across in recent times.

Here are some of the images and things that kind of struck me a long the way.

I also couldn't help but notice in the middle of some fierce space fighter battles, that the backgrounds could be quite amazing and detailed as well.

Star_Wars_The_Old_Republic_Space_Battle.

Anyway, it's been a fun time, and hopefully there will be more in the future. I couldn't help but notice Knights of the Fallen Empire changed companions to make the game itself considerably easier, which I don't know if I approve of that, it was nice to have a more hardcore and challenging game, one where I had to think about abilities and encounters more than most, but at least the majority of the rest of the game seems intact, although I do seem to level a bit faster as well to the point where I am a little ahead of most of the content in the game.

I don't know when MEA is coming out and there isn't any information about it, just like there isn't any information on the new IP. I am really disappointed they cancelled Shadow Realms because I'm pretty sure that would of been a lot of fun, but whichever direction they tend to go with these things, I hope they remember to learn from one of their very own games! SWTOR! Why? Because it's fun! It came out around the same time as ME3 but it seems maybe some people missed it! Plus, they've been doing updates since then and it seems a lot of people missed out on those too, such as the galactic starfighter and stronghold system which as mentioned before are pretty sparkly and cool!

And to finish off there is this cinematic from the intro which I think I posted somewhere around here one time, but it's got really one of the most intense lightsaber duels I've seen! :o

I've seen all the Star Wars movies and I can remember those pretty well but I think this might of even topped those! Wowza!

If you play Knights of the Fallen Empire, you could see there's a lot of stuff they lift from Mass Effect, particularly around characterization and plot progression.

and

Spoiler

Its just a tip of the iceberg really. The writers found what works for them and refine it. Frankly I'm looking forward for the future chapters to see if they dare to follow through with something similar with the Suicide Mission.

Haven't played it myself, but a few people have got me interested in giving it a try... and a few others have made me want to puke all over it, merely because it's Star Wars.

Well, SWTOR is great because you focus more on the larger universe around you. The narrative between Sith and Jedi aren't clearly well understood in the movies. You don't even need to watch the Skywalker movies to appreciate the narrative. You can be a pragmatic Jedi or a manipulative Sith who wasn't a psychopath. There's war, politics, machinations and the world doesn't revolve just on the force and this one special family.

Its a good game to play in between Mass Effect and Dragon Age playthroughs since there's a lot of familiar voice actors in SWTOR. You can play as Varric, watered down FemShep and FemHawke, you can romance Grunt, Liara and Jack has a cameo and there's Javik. There's SWTOR version of EDI.

The first Knights of the Old Republic itself gave birth to Mass Effect. Its still made by Bioware without George Lucas mucking things up.

TOR has actually much better storytelling than last two DAs together... so yeah, it would be nice if BioWare learned something from itself.

There are two quest line, the major one which is special for each of the class and the zone one which gives you an understanding of what´s happened and happening in certain zone, and both of these are connected on certain level of design, so it won´t happen that you are leveling just for sake of leveling, but you´ll get almost on every inch of that game some lore or little story within the world.

Can't tell if you're trolling through the sheer TL;DRness of it.

That explains 99.99% of everything wrong in the galaxy.

The last unexplained thing is WHY DO I STILL HAVE SPANISH KEYBOARD PRESET ON MY LAPTOP.

No idea.

I don't think MEA should learn anything from SWTOR.

They should take a leaf out of the Last Federation. And make people write fanfic. Then they can romance a krogan or a thorian or whatever they like.

TOR could have been a perfect RPG, if only it was not an MMO.

You can ignore the group content. Play without the general chat on and you got yourself a SP game where you can play eight different single-player story.

Of course, I can't really convince people to play the game even if it was created by the same people who created Mass Effect. So far the only differences was its not a first person shooter and the romances is very tame. I think I spend more money on it than I do on other Bioware games.

I think I was talking about Spanish with Dienne like a month or two back... Come to think of it, haven't seen her in a week or so now.

Oh please. I played through TOR, finished two class storylines and started a few more.

No matter how hard I wanted to pretend otherwise, the game is an MMO at its core. It is based and balanced around the idea of MMO.

I can understand why the mere mention of multiplayer has the potential to make developers weak at their knees with dollar signs in their eyes,

but I am yet to play any kind of multiplayer game that I truly enjoyed. (and I tried quite a few, of different types)

I have finished Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent and was in the middle of finishing Act 3 of Trooper and Jedi Consular and the middle of chapter 1 Bounty Hunter and chapter 2 Smuggler.

I treat Trooper as Shepard's pre-military history. It was harder to be a Paragon since you're required to follow orders and finish your assignments the best you can even if it conflicts your morals and even if it meant a lot of casualty. But Imperial Agent is by far was the most Shepard-iest than all classes. You become a Spectre, you're given the command of a prototype starship, you're sent to uncover a group of terrorist lead by a secret organization, your choices affected lives and you have to sacrifice, you're betrayed and etc.

As long as you ignore the PVP and the raiding community, you can play it solo and ignore everyone. With the expansions; Makeb's destruction, Forged Alliance, Shadow of Revan, Rise of the Emperor and Knights of the Fallen Empire, there's a lot of content even for a SP gamer like me. Right now you don't really need to grind with 4.0 since Bioware make it easy to solo most of the content even the heroics.

I abhor social gaming but the story make up what I hate about MMO in general...

I think they should do what SWTOR did, make all the LIs straight and release gay DLC contents, so gay people can pay to gay, while straights don't have to deal with gays and have more options.

Ikr. Gays got everything.. I mean, they could have at least made Cassandra a romance option for straight females.

What they can learn from SWTOR is that MMOs are bad, m'kay.

I gave it another chance with the Fallen Empire update, and to my own surprise I've been enjoying it, mostly because they toned down the MMOish bullshit. The game could have been great if they'd designed it from the ground up to be single player.

I also sense it was a joke, unless my internet humor detector is broken again.

What I'd like MEA to learn from SWTOR is that I will actually play dudes and enjoy it if they have voices as fantastic as the Imperial agent, instead of slogging through as dudeShep because I just love Jack so much.  ;)

I tried SWTOR once and I uninstalled, it's just a pay to win game in disguise.
