I'm really into this game but ever since I arrived in Neverwinter the game crashes when I travel - but heres the thing, it doesn't always crash. If i want to travel from the docks to the merchant quarter then i have to go outside the city (like highcliff or the castle ruins) and then travel again to the merchant quarter. I also have to do that for other areas too and it's getting old. Below is some excerpts from the error log file.

Error occurred at 12/21/2015 06:52:50.

Just a guess, but I see EAX mentioned in there.  In my game, the two EAX settings (under sound) are disabled.

I have EAX disabled in mine too. Pretty weird also that say, for example, in the docks district, i can travel somewhere without crashes from the bottom travel marker. But if i use the one near the watch building, the game crashes. Basically to go places I have to travel all around the map to get to one place and i can't use the same way out as i did to get in.

Also, the error always mentions an address associated with ESI, whatever that is.  When i go to travel, at the bottom it says loading area 1 of 21, etc...when it gets done loading the last area...it crashes

(eax and esi are very low-level Assembly instructions & whatnot, that deal with CPU registers.)

uh, try (re)installing DirectX 9.c

I installed it earlier today, the redistributable version, but not sure how i can check to see if the game uses it or not. In directx diag it says version 12

it won't show up anywhere, but is fully compatible w/ later versions of DirectX

and some of its files -are- uniquely needed for NwN2.

I have reinstalled directx 9.0c and still getting crashes. Seems to be isolated to Neverwinter because i can travel everywhere else without a problem. If i try to go to the docks, merchant quarter or blacklake the game crashes. I have also reinstalled the game as well, updated my video drivers, have graphics settings set to lowest in game.

I have Windows 10 and I have the game set so it launches in admin mode. Is there a preferred compatibility setting for the game?

in game options, try the Miles 2d sound driver

/reaching...

edit:
after a bit of reading and a coffee ...

why does System Info say things like

0 MBytes physical memory.
0 MBytes total virtual memory.
0 MBytes total page file.
0 MBytes available page file

i mean, that doesn't look right to me. ( Access Violations are related to memory )

Besides that, a possible workaround is to add nwn2main.exe to DataExecutionPrevention (DEP) allowances like so.

I'm not quite sure about the memory, i was wondering that myself. I have 6GB of RAM and when the game runs it's smooth. I'll try the DEP; i added it a few days ago but today i see that the first check box was checked, to allow essential programs instead of allow all except whats listed.

I've done all the things suggested and still crashes. Maybe I can use the console to travel to an area. I'll have to try it, i need to find the commands

It's possible that reinstalling directX 9.0c fixed the problem but your saved games are now corrupt.
Do you have a save from before you entered Neverwinter?
I know when I first installed the GOG version, I had constant bugs, of the type usually associated with NWN2.
I eventually found that my antivirus software had blocked the installation program from registering a .dll.
Registering the .dll manually with regsvr32 fixed the game & I have played it many times with very few problems.
But I couldn't continue with my old saved games.

I have Windows 10 and I have the game set so it launches in admin mode. Is there a preferred compatibility setting for the game?

I have played the OC right through in Win 10 with no compatibility settings.
The only thing I did do was give my username permission to full access on the security tab.
I'm not sure if I had that originally by default or not, because the November update to version 1511 removed permission from a lot of apps.

If you upload your save somewhere, I could try it and see if it crashes on me.

+ I can upload a good Neverwinter save to dropbox, for testing.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. Where can I upload a save? Unfortunately I do not have a save from before entering into Neverwinter. I'll try a save from Kev and try it, let me know where! Thanks again guys.

Also, it seems to be happening only when I travel into Neverwinter. I can travel anywhere on the map without issue.

Have you tried reinstalling the game? I don't recall if a reinstall will wipe out your NWN2 documents folder, so you could rename that first and then rename it back afterward.

Regards

try this one
https://dl.dropboxus...rB03 OC Act2.7z

a save w/ access to the 3 Neverwinter City districts only.

Dropbox is free, iirc.

Thanks for the tip, but yes, I did do that too and renamed the folder but no luck.

Ok so I tried your save game and it works flawlessly! So that means my save game file is corrupt, which really sucks cause if I want to play without the constant crashes...i'd have to start over. At least I know the game is working. Wish there was a way to fix my save game file

that's not likely. We don't even know what went wrong, and as yet the compressed .Z files have been recalcitrant to repackaging. (decisions you've made in your current playthrough could be in those)

i suggest, give it a break for a couple days and start fresh.
