I'm looking to play as a "Tank" and I'm trying to figure out which one I wanna be. Soldiers are the only class that can wear Heavy Armor (unless you glitch but I don't wanna do that.) and Sentinel's have Tank skills (later down the line in games they have Tech Armor.)

Be a Sentinel and choose a Shotgun, Sniper or Assault rifle as a bonus power. Playing Soldier is too boring and slightly less challenging than the other classes. Because pistols are too boring.

If you want to be a tank in ME1, then Soldier is the tankiest class in ME1 with Immunity, Shock Trooper, and Heavy Armor.

Alternatively, you could go Infiltrator in ME1 for a slightly less tanky Soldier, but withe ability to unlock everything yourself. You could then take Ashley and Wrex everywhere with you for team tank.

Sentinel cannot really tank in ME1.

You could always switch to Sentinel in ME2 as walking hand grenade. And then go Sentinel with Tech Armor and Fortification in ME3 for a walking tank and weapons platform.

To quote someone else: "There are no boring classes, only boring playstyles."

Agreed I enjoy playing all  6 for different reasons of course currently playing as a female infiltrator. Was actually planning a sentinel in my next run though. But then if I had to choose a fave though I'd be torn between Soldier and Adept though. Soldier because of all the weapons and Adept because I like making things fly with Biotics

I honestly don't know why people think Soldiers are so boring. I mean yeah they don't have Biotic's sure but come on it's not as easy as you might think. Soldier's can be challenging to, aswell as fun considering you get heavy armor and all weapons by you're side~

Probably because they're the only class who have health regeneration in ME 1 without any armor upgrades, added with their ability to tank.

If you plan to do a trilogy run, go for the Sentinel. I did it once, and I made a thread about her here:
Trilogy build: Tank Sentinel, "The 7th class"

If you're on PC, you can open the console and add more talents, like Shotguns or Immunity, if you want.

Otherwise, go for the soldier.

Any class gets health regen... just need to get your renegade up. :)

As for the main topic, I say it is worth playing all the classes at least once.  I like both Sentinel and Soldier.  Sentinel can be reasonably durable after you get Barrier leveled up.  Of course, you need semi-decent damage protection from decent tier armor to survive sniper shots (which isn't out of line for most of the classes really).  Assault Rifle training is the best weapon talent choice for DPS, especially considering Sentinel gets a limited version of Marksman.  But on the whole, Soldier is going to make a better tank in ME1.

I decided to start my main Shep's trilogy with a soldier, and replayed to make the bonus power Throw, basically creating a Vanguard lite that can use all weapons. It was actually pretty fun for the most part, and I didn't really mind not having access to the other biotic powers, since Throw is the only one that I found remotely amusing to use on various enemies (tossing the asari clone off the ledge always makes me smile).

Huh? I thought it was the Krogan ally achievement (or maybe the Soldier ally?) that granted health regen.

At any rate, in my current ME2 Soldier insanity run I am finding the Soldier can be quite the tank compared to the other classes. That large health pool (at level 30 I have 500 points of health with Shock trooper and 5 (6?) heavy skin weave upgrades) and Adrenaline Rush combine to give you a large buffer to react to enemy fire. (With hardened Adrenaline Rush you are getting a 100% damage reduction due to the effect of time dilation [i.e. enemy weapon RoF slows down 50%] and the damage reduction boost. With heightened Adrenaline Rush you are getting a 70% damage reduction due to time dilation.) I feel a lot less need to take cover playing as a Soldier than I do the other classes.

And, of course, the Soldier is extremely tanky in ME1.

As for ME3, I would say the Sentinel is fairly tanky, but the Vanguard is probably even more tanky because you can recharge your shields every ~3.5 seconds while having 4 seconds of 50% damage reduction after a charge. Add Fortification to that and you can have 90% damage reduction (50% out of cover) after a charge.

Its another reason why I like playing renegade.

I choose soldier since I was one when I was in the military.

I have never completed a playthrough as a sentinel.
