JJ Abrams already confirmed that Kylo Ren wasn't a Sith. In a pre-release interview he said that he wasn't a Sith, and that he was part of another group called the Knights of Ren. Presumably that's the case for Snoke as well, since we know he's a force sensitive.

One theory I heard is that he's Darth Plageius (sp?) Sidious's master. A being who had control over life might be more difficult to kill than Sidious thought

That would be an awesome reveal.

I'm also guessing that is why he carries a slightly different weapon than the Sith.

I acknowledged that Kylo Ren wasn't a Sith. I edited my post from Sith to Dark Side user. I know of the Knights of Ren, though it sounds like the Knights of Ren are more like the Emperor's Hands(Kylo is the only one in the flashback shown to have a lightsaber). As for Snoke, he can go either way since we don't know much bout him.

What different weapon? The lightsaber may be a unique design, but that isn't unheard of, especially in the EU. Even in the movies, Darth Maul is the only person to have a dual-bladed lightsaber so is of unique design.

That's because they knew him before he became Emperor.  Once he became Emperor, there was no need to call him Darth anymore.  And plus it's a respect thing.  You wouldn't call the president senator, would you?

I know. What I'm saying is that like Palatine who dropped his Darth persona when he became Emperor of the Galactic Empire, Snoke could of dropped his Darth persona when he became Supreme Leader of the First Order.

Anyone who thinks Darth Maul was a great character in the movies probably also thinks the prequels are good films.

What makes Maul interesting exactly? Is it his 2 lines of dialogue, or his special lightsaber? At least Kylo has a personality and depth, and his light saber is actually representative of his character unlike Mauls, which was just compensating for the lack of character by giving him a fancy toy.

That would be a good twist. Darth Plageius was my first guess of possible identities. That or maybe he is the last of the old Sith, and is the person the Jedi Council referred to when they said "There hasn't been a Sith in a millennium." in The Phantom Menace.

Anyone who thinks of Maul that simply clearly they haven't read the EU. Next you'll say Boba Fett is just a mook.

Kylo Ren whines so much he makes Anakin look self-confident. At least he matches up with him in that respect.

DarthMaul has the distinction of having "Duel of the Fates" attached to his fight.

That's all he needs really

Despite the silly robotic legs in The Clone Wars, he's much better there because of his plot with Obi Wan and Satine.

The only problem I think I had with it was I think they overplayed Rey being a bad@$$ a bit.  that could have done with a more gradual buildup.

I dont mind Rey's buildup in the movie at all, I thought she was done quite well, but I think it was more of her force powers coming to her a bit quickly.

One other thing I didnt like was R2's plot convenience at the end of the movie though. That was a bit strange haha.

Uh, no Anakin whines a hell of a lot more, and for the most part, not for any particularly good reason. Oh Obi Wan is so hard on me. I hate sand. At least Kylo resolves his internal conflict in a more meaningful way. Anakin just goes along with Clay Face because he's promised Padme's salvation, which he then backtracks and can't even guarantee lol.

Or how to make a much more compelling villain. Kylo Ren was a fantastic character who had depth, I would love to see ME get a villain like him again, the closest we got to something like this was Saren in ME1

I even thought Kylo Ren was one of the best villains in the series. He was better developed in his first movie than even Vader was in a New Hope. And the new cast are very likable.

You misspelled "awful whiny baby" twice.

Two viewings, and I think it's a great movie with some issues (Kylo Ren is one of the issues), but if you disregard the prequel trilogy, it still might be the worst Star Wars film.

But I liked it a lot. Finn and Rey are fantastic.

Saying that TFA is the worst SW film against the original trilogy while disregarding the prequels doesn't say much. I'd still rank it above RoTJ, because f*** ewoks, and it had too much C-3PO.

The only good scenes with Kylo Ren were because of other characters in the scenes, like when he throws a tantrum the Stormtroopers in the hall on patrol turning around.

And of course:

I'm talking movies specifically. His movie appearance is pure trash. Just like all the villains in the prequels aside from the emperor.

Kylo Ren was Anakin Skywalker done properly. You could feel the internal struggle with him. Anakin was supposed to be a likable, noble warrior who is seduced by the dark side, but came off as an *******. The big scene with him and another character showed exactly how anakin should have been portrayed in the prequels

Hence why I said he was criminally underused in the movies.

So still Darth Vader's story done wrong?

Kylo Ren is an interesting inversion of Darth Vader. Whereas Vader, in the original trilogy, was distant, cold, implacable, but ultimately tried to find the good left I bin. Ren is hotheaded, overly emotional, and actively trying to smother the good left in him.

I thought the Clone Wars series did a pretty good job of making Anakin likable. It's too bad that his major character arc isn't a big part of it, but I think it succeeded in making me at least care about him, due in no small part to Ahsoka.

I want to see an ewok Jedi (or Sith Lord) just to see people's heads explode at the dissonance  :D

I know. It was really good. I liked it more than RoTJ after one viewing, slightly less after two, that all might change again if I see it a third time (I probably will). It's a better film than RoTJ, but there are some things I enjoyed about the overall package of the original trilogy that I don't think you can recapture. As I was saying in another thread, for all his shortcomings, George Lucas, with all his crazy references, call-backs, and influences (and with the expert editing work of Marcia Lucas) put together something really special. TFA is as deft a re-imagining as I think I could hope for, but it doesn't hit the same notes as the original.

Maul had style and mystery, which count more than a little bit. I thought he was a jewel in an ocean of sewage (and ultimately misused).
