I keep on dying with Knight Enchanter?

I don't get this. Everyone keeps saying that KE is this God in the game but I die instantly. One hit or one arrow and I'm gone. I must be doing something wrong. I am level 13 and I have more or less filled out my KE tree and some on the spirit tree.

When I watch people with KE on the web they get a blue line, a barrier I guess, almost immediately. I don't get that. Ever. Might be why I am dying. I don't want to be invincible but I die immediately. I can't continue to play any longer. I have resorted to just staying in the back and firing main magic bolts at the enemy while my companies deal with the rest. So does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Do I need to get a new armor? I am gathering Silverite so I can build a heavy armor but other than that I don't know. KE, for me at least, is not working at all.

Reexamine how you have built him, to generate barrier you have to attack with your staff or your spirit blade.  Also try and build a staff that has heal on kill.

Remember to actually cast barrier on yourself before you start swinging the sword...

That's actually possible...

It's not working. When I cast the regular barrier, from the spirit tree it has no effect on me. Everyone else gets a blue line, over the healthbar. Except me.

Did you put on a funny Sigil from Trespasser?

Are you in the area of affect for the barrier when you cast the spell on your companions?

Yeah, I'm dead center on it. It's kind of hard to miss.

That your barrier doesn't auto generate using Spirit Blade is weird.

Try respecing and change all your gear but honestly it sounds like a bug and you might have to ditch the character or not use the specialisation tree.

It's one of those obvious questions someone had to ask! Because the area can be moved.

Don't I kind of lose half the game if I don't use specialization tree?

Not really it's just some spells, there's plenty of others you can use, but as a mage you are a bit too squishy without barrier.

Obvious question- you have tried shutting down the game and restarting?

Yeah of course....but I can go and buy one of those amulets and redispurse my points. See if that does anything.

It's still not working. I bought a Tacticians removal. The barrier is not going off. Everyone else gets it but not me. Without the Barriers I have no armor and the knight enchanter is more or less useless.

Even when Solas casts barriers I don't get anything. So is this why I keep dying? Anyone knows what I do?

I know that before I became a KE the barriers worked fine.

Craft armor that generates guard on hit, even without barriers you will be pretty much invincible. How strange barriers aren't working for you.

Do you have a Sigil of the Bronto in your current armor? That would prevent you from gaining barrier completely.

As to your armor, heavy armor won't benefit you all that much since you won't get cloth utility slots on any of it and guard on hit masterworks are unnecessary. Have your tank, or just the warrior in your group, spec for Horn of Valor with the guard upgrade; this takes care of survival by itself most of the time unless you're playing on nightmare with trials on.

Use Everite or Dawnstone (Walking Fortress) masterwork + something else, bloodstone (7.5% dmg per nearby enemy) probably. I'm trying to figure out the best 2nd masterwork for my KE in a nightmare/trials run right now.

Also get a Ring of Doubt from Exalted Plains and use Fade Cloak on cooldown.

Guard On Hit is definitely a good idea.

But have you tried casting a Barrier (you or a companion) and just letting letting the enemy hit you for a bit? Maybe the problem is simply your health bar isn't changing.

Check your sigils :P as someone already said, you might have one that is doing you more harm than good.... (like basically almost all of those >.>)

That was it. I removed the Sigil of the Bronto and the barriers are working. So I will be good now?

Btw....Fade Cloak on cool down?

Sorry...I'm stupid. Yeah of course I have fade cloak. One of the best moves in the entire tree.

I have guard-on-hit on my staff, and heal-1%-on-hit for my armor.  Also, if you play on PC there is a mod that un-nerfs the spirit blade.

dang, that's why I avoid the sigils. in the entire game I couldn't find a single one that fitted my KE/ice mage inquisitor.

EDIT: By the way, find a fade touched silverite that grants Guard on hit, it's gold if you like your mages to go in the front (like, I guess, most of the KE players).
