Console sales on a whole seem relatively low.
Personally I can't see any compelling reason to buy one over a PC, but that's just me.

PS4 sales are through the roof. Looks like it is going to be PS2, original Xbox all over again. Like you I will never be buying a console again. They have a Steam streaming device out now for like 50 bucks that will put out better visuals than a console from your desktop and we can use every console controller. Why bother. Or you can just build a MITX with a card as big as a Nano and that is like 4 times as powerful as a PS4. Arctic Islands and Pascal will prob bring that to like 6 in a small form factor.

I don't pretend to think PC's are for everyone though, at least not in their current form. Eventually maybe a Steam box type deal will take over and they will still have to separate mouse/keyboard from controller.  Until PC's have an option and an API supported (Vulkan API may do that) that means people can just put in a game and it "just works" with no tweaking or anything? Consoles will always have a place.

MS is who has stood in the way of PC adoption to be honest. Example. They create Metro in Win 8, and then do not have it work natively with the Xbox controller. The Direct X monopoly also prevents anyone from making a linux "console like" distro (like Steam OS). MS is holding back everything. Once PC Gamers realize they do not need MS? PC Gaming adoption will skyrocket and it is already growing fast, despite MS.

I think consoles will eventually go to a stream service (that will work on the Steam boxes) for their past library of games. Nintendo is sitting on a gold mine. MS? Well they have jack from first party. Sony might have enough to do it. Who knows maybe a netflix type service will happen with multiple console vendors and that can be played on tablets, phones tv's. Streaming multiplayer or VR or cutting edge graphics over the internet will never work though. The latency and internet infrastructure in most of the world is garbage.

When you see people like EA backing Vulkan API and every major game engine (Frostbite, Unreal 4, Unity, most likely Blizzard's engine)? MS may be on the way out in gaming. All the other tech companies in the world want to to go forward and unify stuff and MS is holding us back. They were only in gaming to prop up an API monopoly anyways. Xbox has never been about profits. It has lost billions. It made MS several more billions in OS sales though. If Vulkan API takes over on PC? MS would literally sell the Xbox division to Google or something, who would just use Vulkan API and a linux distro just like Chrome books.

Xbone will in fact be the only console from MS it is on.
