Mac Walter's ending was so bad in ME 3, it made his flat start, auto dialogue, butchering of Kai Leng and Cerberus plot line look good and had people only blaming the ending when all of those things were pretty darn bad in their own right.

I've complained many times about the entire game, not just the ending. Many Bioware games, before the "take-over", were rich and regal meals. ME3 is part of the slice of games that should be considered fast-food market.

I'd say ME2 is a bag of Doritos to ME3's tortilla platter. I know folks round these parts love that game, but it's no less a pile of junk food for the mind if you ask me. The human reaper is the salty pile of Dorito dust at the bottom of the bag.

Parts of ME3 was brilliant
The ending of ME3 and thus the Shephard story deserves every bit of criticism it gets. It was awful on many levels and did indeed put a taint on the rest of the series. they did a lot right in ME but they totally botched the ending badly. It won't prevent me from being a pretty loyal BioWare customer but they have to take the bad with the praise.

...misunderstandings and neglect create more confusion in this world than trickery and malice. At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent.
For some, ME3's ending was like bad medicine.
Since their symptoms ain't a fever but a sign of a permanent dis-ease.

I was thinking about 2 of the 4 games you mentioned and it is true! However, none of them had the baggage of two other games with decisions behind. I'm not just justifying the nightmare that was the ending but it was a first try, i think...
