Subtitled: Mercy for the Elves

Any thoughts on whether this has some hidden message?    The 3 main versus refer to the fall of Arlathan, the elves marching with Andraste and then the wandering of the Dalish.    It seems to be a reminder of what the humans race at least owe the elves.   Is there a clue there in how to deflect Solas from his purpose?

Then it finishes with saying when the slightest unite then a giant will arise.    Does this simply refer to the elves flocking to Fen'Harel, which will give rise to a giant army of elves or something more?   This song came from Trespasser and is the only one that doesn't either refer to the events of the main game, the Inquisitor or companions/followers.    If nothing else it fills me with foreboding that there is going to be a lot of in game hostility towards elves and thus they will need mercy.

Maybe you could post the lyrics?

As for the giant rising part, I took it more to mean that what ever Solas and his merry band of elves plan to do will awaken the Titan's. We already know that the Breach had the one reacting to it. If Solas tears it down completely or if there are more fluctuations......

I would have figured that 'slightest' would refer to the dwarves though.

Full text as follows:

"Mercy for the elves

Who guard their lives with faith

Our hands do weigh them down

But their kind hearts will forgive the weight

Arlathan fell

So deep unto the ocean floor

Currents of hate

Will so challenge their fate.

Mercy for the elves

Who marched with us through fire

Stood with Andraste

As she rose against the empire

Can we pay the cost

For the allies we have lost in fear

Our hands of pain

Will so threaten their name.

If we climb through our doubt

We can sympathise

When the slightest unite

Then a giant will rise

When the slightest unite

Then a giant will rise

Mercy for the elves

Who wander through the night

Dalish father roams

Will the Dalish son survive the fight?

How can we deny

What their number can supply the realm?

When the slightest unite

Then a giant will rise"

Yeah, "slightest" could be referring to dwarves even though it is a song about elves. Or maybe it's both? Elves and dwarves uniting?

"Slightest" refers to the elves - likely because of their slim builds - and the giant is a metaphor for the combined might of the elves working together.

I think the song is mostly about how human mistreatment of the elves may lead to an uprising.

That's what I was thinking and it has me worried.   I play elves.   If you choose the elf option when talking to Solas and say you would give your life for your people, he responds by asking if you would give every friend you have ever known and then that "there is no glory here".   My elf wasn't looking for glory; just helping his people to a better life.   Mind you he doesn't want to see the world destroyed either.  To a romanced elf, he says that this is a journey that will only end in death and that he doesn't want her to see what he will become.   And both Solas and Abelas don't regard modern elves as their People.

Yet at the end all the elves across Thedas are disappearing, it is assumed to join Fen'Harel and I fear what he is going to use them for.    If nothing else, it likely means a future PC having to kill a lot of elves, which I won't be happy with.     I'm just hoping that there is some way of avoiding this.

I definitely don't think it has anything to do with the dwarves; they may been short but they are pretty solid sorts.   Everyone complains how slight and skinny the elf body form is, and the elves are also the most downtrodden race universally across Thedas, so the slightest on both counts.
