No Episodic gaming has been tried, and so far it's a failure. HL2 Episode 3 anyone?

Even Tell Tale with their made for episodic gaming style isn't all that great - I love their games, but even then I'm not purchasing them now until either they go on Steam/GOG sale and all episodes are released.

It would only work if the game had an extremely linear narrative.

So with Mass Effect it would be fine.

I'm confident I would never buy such a game.

No, no way.

Its fine if visual novels does things like that but things that are more gameplay focused I prefer just getting in one package.

No, they should release games at half the price, so people wouldn't be so disappointed after playing them.

Well they do, just not straight away after release.

I seriously hope no and I seriously hope that won't be case with FF7 remake as well!

If there should be "try game before buying it" then give people demo and that is how you can decide easy is game your cup of tea or not. But episodes? I find it stupid! Last thing I want to is keep waiting for next episode when I finish one, like seriously it is stupid, especially in rpgs like ME:A and FF7 in where you are supposed to waste hours on exploring and not wait for next episodes to come out when you finish one.

So as I said for trying out game there is demo! For feedback there are forums! In case there is no demo, there is always 'YouTube'/reviews or forums again in where you can easy see is game again for you.

The only reason they're doing this is because they need to make money Square is falling. I stick with my original version which cost me about £20 a few years back and my PS3.

Only episodic content I can stomach at best is dlcs part 1 and 2 but that's only if it is reasonable in size.

Ugh, **** no. I hate the episodic business model. I like to play video games, not TV shows.

Life is strange worked for me as an episode based series.
Not sure about anything else though.

-_- Bioware already did it for Knights of the Fallen Empire (i'm waiting for Chapter X).... but SWTOR is an MMO and they're releasing content exclusively for the subscriber to attract new players to the franchise and it kept the money flowing on their side. For a potential AAA game like MEA, I don't think episodic release is beneficial to them.

Chapter X can't come soon enough(the wait is just killing me ugh).

I always wait for episodic games to be completely done, then wait for a super sale, THEN buy them. Just did that with Tales Of Borderlands.

The only episodic game I did not wait like this for was Resident Evil Revelations 2, only because the wait time between episodes was one week verses 3 months or whatever for Tell Tale.

I actually avoided AbilityDrain's youtube channel just because she had spoilers of Life Is Strange on there. Well, up until episode 5 was coming out, and then I played through the damn thing.

It died for me within the 5 mins it took me to fead the article that said it was more than just a rerelease with updated graphics. When they talked about touching the combat mechanics and the story i saw them making it into XIII

okay so i heard that ff7 is getting a remake. however, a lot of people got mad that they are releasing it in several episodes.

i liked the point someone else made.

you can buy and play one part. if you dont like it you dont have to buy the rest.

it can also give the developer feedback on what to improve mid-game.

You mean like first they release a game called Mass Effect and then Mass Effect 2 and then Mass Effect 3? Yeah that would be awesome.

No, they should not. I want a full story with a complete ending or, at least, an implication of continuation. If I wanted to play episodic games, I'd play Walking Dead. Ugh.

ME isn't really the best example of the formula though since as you say they are direct sequels of the previous games and continue the story from there, though on some level you can say each game is its own standalone game as well, all 3 have a start point with a main objective and all 3 have a definitive end for their set missions. Where as in this I assume in an episodic game you have you have a start usually with the first game in the series, and it just progresses, you never reach the set end of that primary objective from the first game in the first game. Case in point If the main goal of FF7 is to find Sephiroth and defeat him then you don't or won't do that in the first game more likely it'll end just after leaving Midgar or something.

Episodic games work for certain things, but not for a AAA title like Mass Effect.

Plus, I always wait until all episodes are out before I buy a fractured game and I really don't want to have to dodge ME spoilers for a year or more.
